Title: Nealos101's BAT Projects
Post by: Nealos101 on February 27, 2007, 07:57:19 AM
Hey everyone!

You may remember me from Simtropolis with creations such as... CJ San Portello - Like California But Different and SD St Albet's Park; A diary of a Policeman, but some of you may actually recall me as being the (second) person to take on BATing Las Vegas style Casinos...

I post this topic here today in aspiration of improving those Casinos and *hopefully* getting them on to the LEX, STEX and maybe the SIMPEG Exchange.  But I need your help...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstex.simtropolis.com%2Flots%2Fnealos101%2Fnealos101_rnp%2520nealos101%2520georgetown%2520georgetown%2520casino%2FNealos101GeorgetownGeorgetownDay%252EJPG&hash=4353511e59ea437936cca6385f7c16adef04038a)
The Georgetown, Georgetown Casino... I loved that project, however the major problem with that was it was so damn LARGE...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstex.simtropolis.com%2Flots%2Fnealos101%2Fnealos101_the%2520castle%2520castle%2520casino%2520by%2520nealos101%2FNealos101BATProjectsCastleCastleCasinoMainPictureNight%252EJPG&hash=abcc663939732ecc16ace184f09b9e1d2b821fbe)
Castle, Castle... This is one of my best, and I have already talked to Jeronji about this one and greatfully and appreciatedly he gave me some ideas on improving it.  If you think you have ideas on improving it please share!!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstex.simtropolis.com%2Flots%2Fnealos101%2Fnealos101_neyorka%2520bay%2520hotel%2520and%2520casino%2FNealos101BAtProjectsNeyorkaBayCasino%252EJPG&hash=4232f5fa39a3cc4b14ba54ddb4495c0e876ce1cf)
*Shiver* Neyorka Bay... I loved this project too but it was daunting and full of errors and horrible, confusing holes.  I know what I need to do to improve on this, but any suggestions from you would be greatly appreciated!!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstex.simtropolis.com%2Flots%2Fnealos101%2Fnealos101_simtropolis%2520goldwyn%2520mayer%2520grand%2520casino%2520and%2520hotel%2FNealos101BATProjectsSGMGrandNight%252Ejpg&hash=bd5f541a0a3cd7c3a4e5bd4c732258e740f3427c)
SGM... My first little child and therefore my first thing that I shall update.  I really need some info on how to improve this one guys.

Any comments/suggestions/queries welcome and in order to upload to the LEX I accept handing it over to some one else/juristiction, and gratefully and proudly accept your hospitality and critism.  I shall not upload any new versions to the STEX until it is approved by you guys for the LEX... So long as you guys are happy me uploading to the STEX once it is up on the LEX? It up to you... But that is my promise either way...

This is more of a plea for help so I can then ask you to upload these things... Rather than ask to upload them...

Oh and Jeronji thanks for everything! I adore your work and your understanding!!!

Nealos101.

P.S. Sorry if I don't have anything at the BETA stage X-P, if this is in the wrong section ask and I shall move it... Or how it goes?  ()what()

 ;D Thanks Jeronji!

BETA pictures? Hmmm... I'm not too sure on complete BETA pictures but how about partially BETA complete pictures?

What do you and others think I should add/improve in your opinions?

Do you have pictures of the RL models you are basing these off of? That would help me a bit make suggestions.

Okay! I see now. I like the lattice in your newest version, but I don't like the ladder running down the middle. The lattice is a HUGE improvement though over your original. I think that lighting is going to be your key on these projects. Las Vegas isn't so visually impressive during the day, but at night it is a TOTALLY different town. In my opinion this might be the way to think about these projects. As you build think about how you want to light your buildings. Let me think a little more and I will post other suggestions. In general I do LOVE your stuff though. I go to Vegas about once a month and I always felt that SC4 was lacking in the casino arena!

Schweeeeeet! Thanks joelevan!!

The lattice wasn't so bad once I got passed the harder parts and dealing with the details under the lattice itself.  The ladder does look odd in that picture doesn't it; but I'm really not that sure if it is a ladder, becuase on the MGM it looks like some kind of maintance machine track... Hmmm?

Anyways by the time I read your reply I had already got as far as I am about to show you, and don't know if I should remove the ladder now... And yes the lighting has to be sweet becuase I know as well Vegas transforms entirely at night, the first Casino captured that well personally... I may do the same thing - Will have to see as I progress.

Here are the second pictures...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F48407072531.jpg&hash=eff4a500b70ab75beeb0cd7591d29b569a32ab54)
Day - As you can see the highest part of the roof is pretty much finished and all I really need to do now is complete the stepping part of the SGM, and then add the detailing (Which shouldn't take too long).

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F23859581127.jpg&hash=6c47690d82eacdd662297ab1c1ac9a7607aa842f)
Night - This is getting cool just sitting at my computer, I'm still trying to decide if to keep it just like this or add the green lighting anyway... What do you suggest?

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F91263669445.jpg&hash=58d734f7a683cc8c7b1ba60bd916b45c63bbe462)
Day Detail - I couldn't resist but put the MGM Grand logo on somewhere man... How does the detailing look?

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F72950392183.jpg&hash=50651f627186988490aa4462dd00ed2089d64a02)
Night Detail - Not much difference, except you can see the 'anomaly' more easier. (Missing roof piece lol) Howzat look?

Honest that is it for me, currently it is 12:26 am over here in England and I have a lecture at 9 AM today :bomb: However, overall I have done a heck of alot of work for about five hours... And I'm satisfied at this point :satisfied:.

Take care now, and shall reply to your posts tomorrow!

Fair enough. I actually like what you have. The lighting is what is going to make or break this BAT. I really liked much of the lighting on your original production. That little SMG Grand sign needs to light up too. This is a casino...it is all about wonder and imagination!

hey Nealos...glad to see you've made it over here and are revising a few of your works. hopefully we can get some more folks here to comment on your projects.

A few initial comments...the pattern of the windows doesn't quite look right, its too repetitive. might I suggest that you select all of the window rectangles on a wall and then group them, add a map and texture that stretches over all of the rectangles, then you can ungroup them and the texture will remain stretched out over all of the rectangles, this will give the appearance of a whole reflective surface that seems to be more in keeping with the original building (like the first real pic you posted with the clouds), I have a texture you can use if you would like me to post it.

the green texture doesn't look right either, it is too harsh, maybe something more seagreen and metalic-looking would be better...again I might have an example.

I'm also curious about scale...you lots in the past have been larger than I think is realistic for the game, so I'm wondering how many tiles your current structure might take up. Your modeling on the roof is definately an improvement! I really like the lattice that your doing....roofs are so crucial since this is mostly what you see from the bird's eye view of SC4.

As for nightlighting...I might suggest randomnly changing the intensity of the windows so that they are not all of the same brightness. You can do this in Gmax by selecting the windows you want and then checking (under the bat rollout, parameters, night windows, selection) enable box and then setting the intensity. I thing you should do windows with .8, .6, and maybe .4 for variety. I'm not sure I'd go with 1 since it seems so bright, but maybe it will be ok to use if you have other variation with the other numbers. I too liked the look you were going for with the nightlighting of your original bat and think you should try to recreate that sort of feel with omnis (in addition to lighting up the windows).

well that is it for me, I'll keep an eye out for more!

Nealos...glad to see you've made it over here and are revising a few of your works. hopefully we can get some more folks here to comment on your projects.

Thanks yoder, I'm glad you and a few others have already have and I really do appreciate your comments and ideas!

I could find one, but what do you mean place a map and a texture? I could add the texture and use a UVW Map to stretch the texture across the whole set of windows, and I was thinking of aligning it so that the windows behind the shadow don't have that texture (If that is what you meant in the first place :P) If you have a texture in mind yes please show me as it could be of some use? (You shall get credit of course lol)

the green texture doesn't look right either, it is too harsh, maybe something more seagreen and metalic-looking would be better...again I might have an example.

I have to agree with you, after completing the whole model (Well, relativly), I noticed that the green texture looks out of place compared the the MGM Casino.  Again, an example would be excellent if you do have one?

I'm also curious about scale...your lots in the past have been larger than I think is realistic for the game, so I'm wondering how many tiles your current structure might take up. Your modeling on the roof is definately an improvement! I really like the lattice that your doing....roofs are so crucial since this is mostly what you see from the bird's eye view of SC4.

The scale? To start with I make it as accurate as I possibly can, and yes in-game this thing will probably be massive.  But me being cruicial and very patient I shall worry about that later - I'll get this monstrous cross-hotel-complex sorted and will render it, and them put it on a lot and see what I have to work with.  I shall then see about scaling it with your ideas/comments.  And yes I agree with you about the roof - That is where I really lost points with SGM Version 1 and basically every other Casino (Except maybe Castle, Castle?) And I lost points with "dependancies", but I won't really worry about that for now until I have the thing scaled and ready to be lotted.

WHAT? You can do THAT??? After all this time I thought I couldn't lmao - I'll get straight on it, change the intensity of the windows... With the lighting for Version 1 yes that was a good effect, and it actually wasn't Omni's - It was spotlights lol.  But yes I'll try omni's and probably a spotlight for the MGM Signs on the sides.

Fair enough. I actually like what you have. The lighting is what is going to make or break this BAT. I really liked much of the lighting on your original production. That little SMG Grand sign needs to light up too. This is a casino...it is all about wonder and imagination!

You hit the spot Joel, right bang in the middle... You deserve a good credit reference for that...

I'll put up some development pictures when I have some development... lol.

IMO it looks much better, at the time of the preview I have not gotten around to sorting the window lighting, but once every piece of glass is fixed and with the reflection, then I shall bring it up to scratch.  Yoder; you are a legend my friend, your name shall be involved with the final description and of course any reference you would like... lol.

The daylight picture...YES, YES, YES! The cloud reflection is PERFECT! This is MUCH improved over your original. And the colors you chose are VERY nice. This is a building I WANT in MY city!

The nighttime picture - I am still not feeling it. Your night picture looks rather dead. Look at your picture of the real life MGM. You don't see the lights in the windows. In most casino/hotels in Vegas you don't see the lights in the individual windows because the building itself is one big neon light. I do really like the lighting on your 'stairsteps' down the one side of the building.

I have to TECHNICALLY agree about the problem with the scale, but part of the illusion of Vegas is that the casinos LOOK bigger then they really are. I personally don't have an issue with the size, but I can see a good argument for having it scaled down a bit smaller.

All-in-all this building is going to be AWESOME! Nice work.

That was just a working picture trying to compare the darkness of the windows against the reflection... It was in NO way what I want it to look like.  Yes, I'll put on Neons and touch up that steps-like thing... It's coming... Trust me...

I have to TECHNICALLY agree about the problem with the scale, but part of the illusion of Vegas is that the casinos LOOK bigger then they really are. I personally don't have an issue with the size, but I can see a good argument for having it scaled down a bit smaller.

Exactly mine and yoder's point; In SC4 that massiveness is easier to obtain than making it realistically-sized, and the lot sizes can be limited... I think? We'll see when I have this part rendered so I can compare it...

Yoder7652

I am really positively impressed by the development of this baby  ;) .
Oh, and I love the real scale in the game, even if it does not really fit with Maxis stuff, it makes the cities look much more real. Do you remember the original Maxis seaport for instance  ;) ? Would you call this realistic and scaled  $%Grinno$% ?

I think the chairs and things on the 'steps' are too much, but only because I don't see anyway for the Sims to get out to them. No doors, no guardrails, etc. I DO like it on the last 'step' though as there is a door. And I like the more industrial 'roof junk' that you added to the tail end of the 'steps'. I think it is more realistic.

And the more I look at the daylight version the more I like it. Having the clouds reflected on the building is SUCH a nice touch. And the color is just perfect!

Hi! Looked here for first time and I like what I see. The day pic looks fanthastic. The night... ok, that light did hurt my eyes and I believe I got a little headache. I find it a bit to bright. What if you would try to mix diferent colours of light for the night, lets say green and blue or something, to add a varity to it?
But anyhow, you are doing good.

I second Cali, nice architecture, and the night lights will be interesting when finished
But I find that the shadowed part of the daylight version is very very dark. Looks like there is no ambient at all and it hide the details you've put in. In the last Day Detail pic, I can't almost see the windows on the shadowed part.
Or maybe it is just my monitor or my eyes ( getting older every day :( )

I worship yours, so for you to be satisfied with my own quality then I would hit the roof and dance around like those code checkers in the Matrix-Revolutions.

Yoder7652

I assume on the nightlighting, you are going to ease up on the brightness of the spots? I think the day shot looks good and has nice detail. I look forward to the casino.

Duuude... Wait till you see what I have NOW...

Cali

overall, a really nice looking casino

If you were continuing on from what yoder said cool, thanks for the comment my friend!

Naryanna

I agree - The day pic is incredible just with the windowed reflections... I thank everyone that took part in helping me get to that quality and state. The night view on the recent post I have to admit hurt my eyes too, but like I said to Yoder, wait till you see what I have...

Mixing colours? That would and did conflict with the overall impression IMO, but blue... ?

wouanagaine

I second Cali, nice architecture, and the night lights will be interesting when finished
But I find that the shadowed part of the daylight version is very very dark. Looks like there is no ambient at all and it hide the details you've put in. In the last Day Detail pic, I can't almost see the windows on the shadowed part.
Or maybe it is just my monitor or my eyes ( getting older every day  )

The Architecture is astounding and it was wonderful to re-create, the shadowed part is meant to be dark... But I think it is your monitor that is doing it becuase it isn't that dark... But thanks for the feedback - Really do appreciate it.

And it can't be your age... lol

Well ladies and gents; I have a few things to show you since:

a) Yoder mentioned omni's and I was dying to try thier effect...
b) The original BAT had target spots...
c) Naryanna mentioned blue...
d) I wanted to try the original Green...

Well; let's show you guys the results and the development; Which picture/effect do you guys like the most, becuase I am having trouble deciding on which one to choose out of two of them...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F62667323156.jpg&hash=a7f52d4a3769279c4a25cb4d0dc8a8076675e101)
1: Target Green - This is the original effect...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F59731425543.jpg&hash=14a7f55c957def9cc7a9e02809abb6a4f43cf07b)
2: Target Blue - The Blue tint on this is amazing...

I then thought... Wait a second; What about omni's... ?

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F66907577738.jpg&hash=7e63d153c2f41a3fb203128a08c2c701a792e993)
3: Omni Green - This one made me fall in love with Omni's, but the following pictures made me devote myself entirely to them...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F62221770863.jpg&hash=58acc7ffa0f466aca0ecf10366428f2e4e34903e)
4: Omni Blue - This is another that made my heart flutter... That blue is soooo me...

But then I saw the oddities in the pictures, so I investigated and discovered that there were too many Omni's conflicting with each other, so I decided to take the next step and delete a few strategically-placed ones that were interfering...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F94752262393.jpg&hash=427d2a33b3e61fc42d26225d8bb6f4a29c3e772b)
5: Omni Green (Final) - The Original Colour with a brand new effect... ()stsfd()

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F49258392857.jpg&hash=f4d5fa6c61d62a9866e5aee0eb1a69c963536193)
6: Omni Blue (Final) - New effect, new colour... :satisfied:

If you haven't sort of guessed already, but the ones I was trying to decide was Number 6 and number 5 hands down... I loved them both, but eventually I thought and thought and decided that the Blue is my colour, and this is a spanking new way to show the SC4 fans out there that Nealos101 is back and he is armed with a new style!!!

Thoughts? Favourites?

Yep - I have to admit it made the Casino look like a real Casino, thanks for the feedback!

Thank you - It's nice to have a good comment from the STEX gods like BSC and yourself  ;D

Oh and if that wasn't enough, try to chew yourselves into these...

Night Detail - HOOOAH!

I'd say (Except for those rejected windows) that this part of the Casino is complete and ready to be renderrred...

hey nealos, I agree about the blue, it looks good...I do notice the random windows emitting some light and I think that is a nice subtle touch. I might bring back the intensity of the blue nightlighting...but just a shade so the bottom doesn't go radioactive on you  :D The nice thing about omnis is that it doesn't take too many to create a nice effect....good work! So is your plan to render the hotel and casino sections seperately and then put them together in lot editor? I look forward to your next moves, this is really a dramatic improvement over your first model...kudos!

lolol!! I don't know... Will have to see how it does later on $%#Ninj2

QuoteThe nice thing about omnis is that it doesn't take too many to create a nice effect....good work!

Ain't that the truth... Thanks again for the idea - It looks so much better since Version 1; this piece alone kicks that n00bish model's butt... But still - One must remember one's past and how he got here... ::)

QuoteSo is your plan to render the hotel and casino sections seperately and then put them together in lot editor?

Yeah man! I learnt that the hard way with Georgetown, Georgetown - The thing was so big it wouldn't render properly lol. It would make rendering quicker too if I do it that way, and I was thinking of getting some extra props done too so that I don't have to rely on everyone else so much... But still some things up on the LEX and STEX will come in handy; but hopefully I won't over-use them :bomb:

QuoteI look forward to your next moves, this is really a dramatic improvement over your first model...kudos!

Me too... Was thinking of getting the small props out of the way first before takling the foundation/casino piece... Will post some pictures up here when I have something worth looking at lol.

Thanks again freind!

Wow, the blue night light is stunning. But I'm not sure about the clouds reflections by night. I agree that it gives a very interesting effect to the light however.

And you were right, on my home computer, the dark part is not that dark, so much for my age :)

As a nightlighting freak, the blue is working for me...although Yoder's right about the base going all neon like.  That's the downside to omni, it's circular light so there has to be some point of high intensity..although you could use a series of 3, going up the building with differing intensities, one on the bottom set bright but not too high, middle mid level brightness ( ::)) and top low level...that way you can control the gradation of light.

Also, the scale of sunloungers on the staggered roof looks way off..this is a massive building and the people look huge...they should be 2/3 the height of the windows IMO....Otherwise a great piece of work.

yeah I too have been thinking more about the clouds in the glass reflection for the nightime shot. I think that the clouds add alot to the daytime shot, but don't really make sense in the nighttime. Here is a thought...(and maybe some lot editor/modder folk can speak up here), but maybe the best solution is two models...one for the daytime that has the cloud texture window...and another that has a window tint like your first attempt (something dark) that could be used with the nightlighting and then since both are already props, have them timed to switch places between night and day. The downside is that this drastically increases the size of the building since you load both versions of the building into the game. I'm not sure of another solution or a way that Gmax can switch the textures of something depending on the day/nightime. Any thoughts from other batters for solutions.

Nealos, doing this strategy would be fairly simple on your end. Just render this once with the cloud texture and then render it again only replacing the glass texture with something that doesn't have the clouds in the map editor.

Hmm... Those clouds do seem odd... I may tweak with the Omni's parameters and see what I can dig up...

Age is never an issue here; level playing field and unlimited possibilities...

The base is technically not even on there - I am planning to make a base for the main ground model to stick this one to so that A) I can put some light produce on and B) Lower the rendering times lol. That worry should be fine, like I said to yoder I shall worry about that closer to release date...

QuoteAlso, the scale of sunloungers on the staggered roof looks way off..this is a massive building and the people look huge...they should be 2/3 the height of the windows IMO....Otherwise a great piece of work.

I've been thinking about those... Maybe a smaller touch to them would make that whole stepping thing better? Will fiddle with that too while I'm at it.

That would be the last solution (The two model thingy), was hoping to keep the file smallish, but not too worried about that.  I am going to play around with the Omni parameters and see if I can get a solution there, if not it may look like that.

Yeeep... Just remind me to name the files accordingly... Have a habit for that :bomb: lol

I step away for a bit and you develop brilliance! Color #6 is a great way to go! It TOTALLY fits! I agree on the scale of the props. I thought that before, but didn't say anything as I was thinking about the building. I would like to see some more light work on the signs at the top, but I need to see how the blue turns out first. I'll stop here until I see a new rendering. This thing freakin' ROCKS. This is SO Vegas! Money!!!

Final Night Picture - Fixed? It looks like in order to get rid of the clouds we'll have to make two of them as props, and fix it how yoder mentioned... Unfortunatly those little signs in the middles arn't having the abient lighting too well so we'll have to leave them like that I'm awaid...

That should be it for that monster? I think... Now for the props and of course... The lower building...

Just a couple comments about this particular picture
The UV map of all the angular walls look stretched. And a bit fake as a result. You may consider re mapping those specific sections or using a different texture. But I'm not sure what would suite at the moment.   The other arrow points to a 'black' thing. What is the architectural purpose for the part of the building as well.

The cloud (reflection in the windows) is a good idea but is going to be difficult for you I think. There is definitely cloud repetition between the hotel towers.

Why not try for a smaller version? We all know that Maxis scale is not very consistent so why is there a need for 'realism' as far as the MGM Grand? One thing is certain. Good texturing takes on a whole new importance when the buildings grow large. And yours is certainly huge. What is the footprint of the Casino?

I like the balconies and the chase lounge chairs. Also your use of some people props enjoying the desert sun. I'm looking at the gray balcony floor and wonder if the MGM really has cement floors. More likely some type of terra cotta Mediterranean tile? How about some potted plants on the balconies as well. I'm thinking that you need a wider variety of color and some green wouldn't go amiss. Besides, we all like a bit of eye candy.
All for now.

I'd agree with jmyers about the textures on the 'steps', easily fixed though.  If you are making 2 variants of the model for day/night, you should remove the people on loungers at night...I know Vegas has bright lights but they won't tan you (or maybe they will  :D ).  The area where the ¨black¨ triangular doorway is would also benefit from some very small spotlights, as if it was an outside restaurant/viewing platform.

For the night view that can be easily fixed, and the day just as easily - Thanks for spotting that!

QuoteThe other arrow points to a 'black' thing. What is the architectural purpose for the part of the building as well.

Hmm - Originally it was a door but it seems rather shabby and incomplete doesn't it... I was thinking of making it two doors that opened out... Will have to see on the next previews...

QuoteThe cloud (reflection in the windows) is a good idea but is going to be difficult for you I think. There is definitely cloud repetition between the hotel towers.

I know  :'( I get to one place I like and I find something else which bugers everything up; however I may be in luck and could actually find different types of cloud in different collections... I mean how different is the sky's colour at daytime??

QuoteWhy not try for a smaller version? We all know that Maxis scale is not very consistent so why is there a need for 'realism' as far as the MGM Grand? One thing is certain. Like I said before it is something I shall look into once it is rendered for the first time; as for the footprint there was none; I had to do it by eye and concentration not only from Google Earth but also from Pictures from Google - This thing isn't lifelike; heck no lol.

QuoteI like the balconies and the chase lounge chairs. Also your use of some people props enjoying the desert sun. Actually you are right about that texture... I looked on Google Earth and the two surfaces are completly different (Roof and Balcony), and potted plants are a great idea... Why didn't I add them before? I did in the original version lol.... I agree we all like a bit of eye candy and the roof services alone prooved it. I was thinking trying out palm trees... See how they work?

Thanks for spotting those areas and making those suggestions too; it is posts like those which help it improve into something greater; I really appreciate it man.

Thanks again for your warm comments, appreciations, helpful hints and critisms... Every name I see on here will be in the thankyou list and any more that helped shall be too...

For now though...

That MGM sign was up there originally - Just didn't get around to focusing a picture on it.  On the actual balconies - Palm Trees potted - On the roof of the stepping structure; little air filters/circulators.

Me too... But I think that part could be the easiest after all of that work...

Just a little picture showing you what I'm working on now guys; it isn't much and please don't take it as anywhere near final becuase basically... It isn't.  $%Grinno$%

SGM Fountain Prop

I textured a few things to show you an example of how the thing will look - I was wondering; do you guys mind if I BAT and create your avatars as a way of showing appreciation? For example... BATing a Yoder figure for Yoder7652 and a dog in a little food dish for Kimcar?

Jeronji and some other well-deserved guy... Possibly Yoder7652... Your avatars are going in the lower pedestals so the sims can see them, but Jeronji I do have a slight problem... What do you want your little 'avatar' to be?

Same question to those who want something different...

These little avatars would go on the pedestals of this fountain... Engraved in gold of course lol...

That is funny! Good for you, Nealos! This is going to make it that much more special.

I do wish there was something that could be done to the sign at the top of the building for the night shot though. I love the palm trees. I normally HATE the SC4 palms, but this really works well!

Me too but the lighting wouldn't have it - It would either mean removing the blue haze over the whole building or making the sacrifice of making the sign not so well lit up.  Sorry man... I love that blue haze lol.

You could use a target spot, change it from circular to rectangular, adjust the aspect ratio to fit your shape and make sure the hotspot and falloff do not exceed the sides of the sign et voila, it should light up quite nicely. If you combine this with making the texture self illuminating, the result should be closer to what you're looking for....although you may already know all of this in which case I shut my gob  ;D

Over at my thread you asked me how much I paid for my PSP - I got mine on sale at Best Buy for $69.99 USD - it was very rare that I caught that sale - normally they don't fall below $90.00 USD.

Thanks; sorry I couldn't fit you on the fountain; couldn't make an avatar for you; but never fear... Your name will be in the story of SGM... Like everyone else not on the fountatin...

Thanks again... that isn't bad, I could probably get it off of amazon for that price (90 dollars)...

I might be a student... At University... In Great Britain... But I rarely drink... lol $%Grinno$%

Sorry I couldn't find a place for you; by the time I realised that you had helped me the fountain was full... But never fear you too shall have your name mentioned my friend! All in good time... All in gooood time...

As for the people who did get on the fountain...

Day - Needs some detailing done and of course nightlighting as well...

jmyers2043 - You are the guy carrying the globe; basically you made the casino's balconies stand out much better and have helped along the way, and like everyone else here, you carried the ideas and comments through this part of the casino's birth and I'm greatful.

jeronji - The small figure on the left under the globe; Bastion... I read the thread on Autism and saw your post - I thought that was perfect in a way to honour you, Bastion and your wife, and to tell you that you are not so useless as you thought before you joined the SC4 community.  In my eyes you, Bastion and your wife are immortal; you carry burdens with high heads and I respect you and everyone in your position for that.

joeleven - The little devil man on the right holding the pitch-fork.  I had to put you in some where, and it was perfect timing when you put that avatar up lol.

cali - Of course you are the "Beware of Children Sign", and it shall stay there until otherwise stated by me and me alone.  ;D

kimcar - The legendary dog named "Killer," plated in gold for everyone to see.

Yoder7652 - Yoda (Bottom right opposite Bastion), obviously... The wise and powerful jedi night that helped a BAT apprentice in his time of need... Hey; that is goood...

wouanagaine - The little devilish head sitting on the left; couldn't miss you out man...

EDIT: PAGE FOUR!! w00t!

I have only one suggestion : You may consider adding some transparency on the water, and maybe add some light spot on the water.

(Click for larger view)

It was offloaded from the train and moved into my shop last night. I'll be working on it for the next few days and this will be a special that is particular to this lot only. When Neal has the casino lot ready, I will also be writing some scripting routines for it. This is a group project between several BSC members and I'm happy to be part of the group working on it.

And for the little update, I begin with the gaming floor...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F21005233489.jpg&hash=6d3887e7a0ac611357c6f59301ebd7e5426fdb72)
Day - One part almost finished...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F62156971470.jpg&hash=8e0569c02ad570473497fe2075ea831cab826ebc)
Night - I made the nightlighting that way since I don't like vanishing sources of light; they scare me... I wanted to add a "real" tint to the building itself.

The three objects you see that have no textures (Including the one that lights up oddly at night), don't worry about them - They are placeholder objects for the fountain and the sign and shall be of use later on in the casino's construction...

TTFN...

I don't know if this is a model suggestion or a lot suggestion, but a sidewalk around the gaming area, an overhang from the building with lights under the overhang illuminating the sidewalk, big sliding glass windows on the entrance to hall with lots of light. Also make the little pyramid on the top of that building glass...kind of like the Louvre with light. Would it be possible to make the blue sections of the 'pyramid' light up the same way as the hotel and then have the gray part be glass and light up with the same light as what would come out of the building. Am I making any sense?

Let's see...

QuoteI don't know if this is a model suggestion or a lot suggestion, but a sidewalk around the gaming area, an overhang from the building with lights under the overhang illuminating the sidewalk, big sliding glass windows on the entrance to hall with lots of light.

For the sidewalk around the gaming area; I'm going to make props that stand in front of the hall's main wall with posters and lights upon them - All manners of posters and everything etc etc. That suggestion is covered!

Big sliding glass doors; we'll see... I have the entrance done but haven't start on playing with it yet but shall show you when I get there...

QuoteAlso make the little pyramid on the top of that building glass...kind of like the Louvre with light. Would it be possible to make the blue sections of the 'pyramid' light up the same way as the hotel and then have the gray part be glass and light up with the same light as what would come out of the building. Am I making any sense?

Yes; again it depends on the overall effect later - Parts of it already is glass but you can barely see it - Shall jump in and fiddle when I get to that stage. Thanks for the suggestions they come in handy!

The main entrance needs some light work and some more detailing I know... lol...

That is it for today; it is half twelve in the morning over here so I'm going to call it a night.  Until tomorrow...

Couple more shots (Added another side);

Okay...I am praising the heck out of this thing...beautiful!!! Now...Critical comments...More lighting for the night view. The base needs lights with lots of colors. 18x13 squares, right? Can it be a bit smaller? Maybe 12x7? Maybe smaller?

Well I've been slain by the rendering error bug once more, but who cares, it is a dragon, I am merely a guy who doesn't have his slaying equipment in perfect order yet...

Again, the high quality render works like a charm, however, that bug presents itself with a passion.

Some textures didn't render, but it is no biggy, I have a spear! neeehaa!

Shall render it again, after redrawing views and double checking those incriminating areas twice. But for now I shall insert some goodie pictures that will give some comparisons to the draft renders...

Thankyou Cal... That worked lol.

Anyways guys sorry to leave you in the dark whilst I wait for SGM with patient and true love for Barby, Swamper and Tages' work, I decided to begin the next installment of my projects entitled...

The Pixydust Hotel and Casino, Las Ventura

After a long and stressful battle with myself I decided to start on re-creating Stardust in the image of Las Ventura, and got it on a hook with Pixydust.

I started with the sign... Thinking it would be simple... Ohhh no...

I finally braved the nightlighting and retexturing that occurs when you transfer files between MAX and GMAX.

What you guys think?

Hotel Tower - MAX Scene

I've decided to build it in stages like the SGM, and this time with some help from MAX since it is easier to handle a large load than GMAX and it can basically have you a model (^Like that one^) in under an hour.

I shall do some tweaking with the Sign and hopefully render it tomorrow. No news yet on the SGM but let us cross our fingers for now...

Ah thankyou for the compliments...

...But unfortunatly I had to close the door temporarily on that one due to some problems that aroused with it.

HOWEVER, let me just say sorry and I will come back to it, but while you're waiting and another SORRY for the big wait, I introduce to you all the next stage of my project:

The Neyorka Bay Hotel & Casino Volume 2

I need all the critisms, compliments and "That sucks so much you should restart"s as I can get on this one, emphasis on the critisisms!

So, where did I begin? I started here:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F21080001503.jpg&hash=c599e971331d4afe470d182ec368b3c7b587f158)

No textures but as much detail as possible without creating too many shapes! It is based on this Picture (http://www.directionsmag.com/images/newsletter/2005/05_25/Pictometry_Mandalay_Bay1a.jpg)

And it is superceeding This (http://www.stexserver.com/lots/nealos101/nealos101_neyorka%20bay%20hotel%20and%20casino/Nealos101BAtProjectsNeyorkaBayCasino%2EJPG).

Whatchas think so far?

Thankyou my freind! They needed revamping since they no longer fitted the quality aspects of a design I can create.

No updates just yet! Give me time and I'll shall present them to you.

Apologies for the double post... But I have a textured update. BSC board isn't working atm for some reason?

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F52449407335.jpg&hash=69c191306e680cd3f9d16d12e1c4cb58bbad9438)

I may need to buff that window texture a bit... It doesn't have that Mandalay Bay golden feel to it just yet.  What say you?

Is anyone willing to put this into MAX for me and make me a reflection worthy of the original? If not I could do what I did with GMAX.  I can't use MAX myself becuase I keep getting an Error Code 410 Location 6 whenever I try to render something, does anyone know what that code is and how to remedy it?

And hopefully you can get your MAX working again, because MAX better than gMax :P

marcszar: Good enough for me! You didn't think I'd miss out the mullions, transoms and the texture on the columns did you, lol?

Bengt: I don't know yet, I will have to post a topic in the BAT help section if a second stab at rendering doesn't work.

Oh yeah!! &apls
Stealing autoVino's bread are we?  :D
I don't want to say anything about texturing, as I don't think I'm really qualified in that department enough (if youwouldn't have been doing it inmax than I could make some material suggestions)
But now I would like to make couple of words on modeling.
I think you are not making it in most efficient (time and resources) way. You can GREATly speed the process up and avoid tons of potential problems in you wouldn't modeling it as if you are actually building it.
First of all you only really NEED to make ONE wing not all three of them. And then Instance it around - saves time and memory, You can even XRef two of three in different file!
Also within the wind itself, apart form Lobby (well the bottom part) floor and the top on all are identical - meaning you ONLY need one not all of them. Spend time and polygons making it perfect and again instance it.
In the inner bends you should tessellate couple of times - you can see quite noticeable kink at the moment...
Wish you luck with this one!

Hello there!

SimFox
QuoteStealing autoVino's bread are we? :D

Afraid not, he may be doing a reconstruction of Mandaly Bay, I am doing a building based on Mandaly Bay that is made based off of the locations & principals of my reigon.

QuoteI don't want to say anything about texturing, as I don't think I'm really qualified in that department enough (if youwouldn't have been doing it inmax than I could make some material suggestions)

Any ideas on what an Error Code 410, Location 6 is when rendering (Or trying to render)? <--- I really am stuck on this one???

QuoteI think you are not making it in most efficient (time and resources) way. You can GREATly speed the process up and avoid tons of potential problems in you wouldn't modeling it as if you are actually building it.
First of all you only really NEED to make ONE wing not all three of them. And then Instance it around - saves time and memory, You can even XRef two of three in different file!

Yes, true, it is not in the most efficient way in that respect.  Everything you see on that picture hasn't taken very long at all but I could have done it quicker, I admit, if I actually Instanced a wing two times...

...Or better still, X-Refed it.  Actually; how on Earth do you do that or is it simpler than I think?

QuoteAlso within the wind itself, apart form Lobby (well the bottom part) floor and the top on all are identical - meaning you ONLY need one not all of them. Spend time and polygons making it perfect and again instance it.

Do you mean windows? Yeah, it had poteintial to have a seriously lesser amount on there but instead I have a mass of instanced windows.  At least I can make the night windows fit in pretty good... I think?

QuoteIn the inner bends you should tessellate couple of times - you can see quite noticeable kink at the moment...

Thanks for noticing and advising help on those bits, I shall see what I can do to rememdy it!

Unfortunatly before your post I had gotten this far...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg79.imageshack.us%2Fimg79%2F3162%2Fnealos101batprojectsneybo8.jpg&hash=e88d7c178a8eb5f35283eaeb35a335b3ed0acb10)

The scene is moving and rendering pretty quickly compared to the older (And therefore trashier one) when I had it at this stage.  But I don't dare do a poly count, well, I should, will do it when I finished all the windowing.

Thanks for the help and advice! I really wanted to use MAX but that error is giving me a headache.

Neal.

Thankyou! And yes it was, I just haven't had the time to get into loting good lots atm, but the time has come to take stab at it once I finish this one since I have my claws on the PIM-X. (Luff you Steph!)

Anyway I have another update for you guys, and yes I still haven't got around to fixing the errors you pointed out I'm sorry - But I will do them!

Ok... Here's the day - IGNORE the texture (Or lack of thereof) and colour of the floor for the next level and light strips as they will be changed!

For what you've done so far (ignoring the lack of texture/color of the floor), it's coming along nicely. It may be a scale thing I'm not seeing, but how many stories is the building at present? For some reason it looks a bit short to me (rather it looks a bit stout/squat for its size). But it looks great so far.
Title: Re: Nealos101's BAT Projects
Post by: Nealos101 on September 25, 2007, 03:12:15 PM
threestooges: Hmm, at least 50 (Or half that - 25 - Depending on what comes of it), it does look stout in that picture for sure, but how about this one?

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F65782820398.jpg&hash=fc928ff34d0c56d387dadf8717c606ec986dd4d4)

This is our day picture almost 24 hours later.  The roof is now coming together with major detailing coming along the way the minute I have the basic shapes complete.  And don't worry - Every critsism or much-needed change will be changed eventually, in fact, it may be best to do a list here to show you what I have compiled...

Anyway, here is the night view with no new added lights just yet...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F82607082526.jpg&hash=d2126ff4c90799e3b2e8d0683090d7f5c642ee2a)

Ok, things that need to be changed:
-  All simple colours taken from the model when the texturing is due (Especially white!)
- Make the lower level's windows stand out a bit more
- Change the texture used on the lower level's protrusions (And topmost level now) or make it darker
- Some gradients!
- Take another look at the building's scale

Ok, that should be it for now, anything else please say! But for now though, time for bed!

Wow, this is stunning.    :o     Very very nice work.    The shape of the building is interesting to say the least.     The building's shape will open up some interesting possible accents on the lot.    Things like pools with triangular shapes, etc.   I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished.    It is really gonna be something else.   :satisfied:    Just a suggestion for the lot this building is gonna set on.   Have you thought about doing a diagonal version?      &idea    I would still do a somewhat standard rectangular lot.     Just a suggestion.

Pat:  Yes indeed it was about time, and I have set myself a personal task which is almost to be realised thanks to the marvelous efforts of the BSC team especially babry, bless her.

threestooges: Thankyou!!

rushman5: It's tough, but I enjoy doing them.  Many people have advised me on starting small rather than going grand and massively huge, and I appreciate thier input, really, but my only purpose that had me like a tonne of bricks was to BAT the Las Vegas Strip becuase quite simply no one had except one or two casinos, and The Home Reigon had pushed me to the point of having some sort of gambling metropolis.

kimcar: It gets really tough some time around my freind, and just becuase you can't bat doesn't mean you can't give ideas for improvements, trust me, I have a to-do list already but really don't mind adding to it, and if that wasn't enough to tell you how much I feel...

Day - Loads still yet to do but the complexity and detailing is taking form.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogster.com%2Fhost%2Fimages%2F26485925854.jpg&hash=12059db9520afbd631e3253349f30c9562aee79e)
Night - Again plenty to do light night windows and the base - I have loads of ideas whirrling around my mind on how to accomplish that!

Unfortunatly, size concerned, it is looking like another big upload.  I haven't quite mastered the ploygons but it is a step up from Volume 1, which became a total nightmare.

Any input, "That looks really bad how about trying this..."'s are all appreciated and welcome.

Neal.

Out of curiousity of scale and whatnot, what are the xy dimensions of the building (game tiles)? It seems like it will be a fairly sizeable facility (not a surprise considering it's a casino). On the roof in the night pic, on the very beginning of the lower right wing, there appears to be a light leak coming out from under the wall. Aside from that, it looks pretty clean from that angle. Having lived in Nevada (not Vegas but Reno) for 6 or so years, it's neat to see these things getting BATted. Keep it up, I'll look forward to more.

threestooges: An answer to your question it is roughly 7x8 tiles at the moment, and with the lower base of the complex to BAT and the individual tower, give or take a few, I'm guessing the final numbers could be 12 x 12? I saw the light leak when you spoke of it, and thanks for pointing out before it became a real issue.

Pat: Thankyou, well, you can never be too confident in these things... Something always crops up that you didn't notice before.

That light leak is a tricky one, I will have to use a bigger weapon to zap it. And I still have to reselove the error list... Hmmm... I must consider fixing those first before I continue if not before I start the Base...

Good progress. I'm not sure what else you would do up there, but it looks like something might fit in the middle part (though I don't really think it would be necessary). Keep it up.

Pat: Hehe, thankyou, it is appreciated.

threestooges: The main HVAC units will go up there and the ventilation for the elevator shaft in the form of a pretrusion and a couple of little fans. That is about it for that part, I still need to do a bit of work on the sides and then see about fixing up the textures. But thanks for commenting anyway.

kimcar: That indeed is the one I was thinking of, and it shall be called Bahiti, Las Ventura.

Another update emcompassing some more detailing which (STILL) isn't complete just yet, although I am showing you that I've begun playing around with the textures in responce to earlier critiques, let me know what you guys think if anything is too dark or light please ok?

I must say that you have done exceptionally well on this

However, if I may draw your attention to the white texture on the roof, maybe its just me but it seems too bright.  If you compare the ingame white colors, they contain a hue of pink or blue.

Also, I dont see much of an entrance to the building :P

Other than that, AWESOME JOB :)

wow massive building! I like the textures on the walls of the buildings. The textures on the roof look a bit clean to me. Maybe you can add some gray or greenish area's to them to make them look a bit more dirty. :)

The roof looks great. Those vents fit perfectly. I like the somewhat yellowed color of the roof. The light leak is still there, but I'm sure you'll get around to it in time. One suggestion I would make for the night windows, is to have some that are partly open (where the curtains are partly/m,ostly drawn); right now the windows look a bit too alike (I know it's a hotel and each room is designed the same as the next, but people will add a difference in how each room looks). Looking better each time you post.

threestooges: Ah yes, the light leak is odd; it doesn't appear on the roof piece itself but when the complex is put together like that is always comes through; I will have to see what I can do to fix it.  As for altering the windows... That may be rather time consuming as it is, but will certainly consider it later on if it does look too out of place.  Thankyou for commenting.

Sim Shady: Thankyou

kimcar: It is good progress too, I am going to enjoy making the base and seeing how the whole complex fits together.  Thanks for commenting again freind!

tag_one: Thankyou, it does, and the nightlighting demands lots of attention.

I shall post an update when i have progressed further, happy new year everyone!

I have found a bit of a texture error though, any thoughts on how to crush it?

Not to worry if you don't - I can easily hide it with the base.

Sim Shady: So am I, I have almost finished the tower!

tag_one: Ah yes, thankyou for letting me know, it was a simple case of deleting and rotating a copy of the original.

kimcar: It is certainly closer now than ever, hopefully the next preview will show a piece of it underconstruction...

Krio: Thank you dear freind, I apologise for not commenting on your BATs recently but I'll get around to it when I get more time! Thankyou and I am glad you enjoyed it!

Pat: If you look at the base, to the left, you should see like some sort of diagonal line striping through one of the walls... That was it. But I have sorted it, and the base I hope to show next time I update!

88% nightlighting complete... 2% for the windows and 10% for the base!

kimcar: Finnish for yesterday? lol, that too I wish for in some respects. Would certainly get things rolling with a bang :bomb:. Thanks for being here all this time my freind and looking around.

threestooges: Thanks, I will apologise regardless, there are people (And my reigon) that are waiting for casinos and even some requests that are posted and I always feel like I am letting them down, but I intend to return every time I do vanish and it is the best I can do for you and for me too.

Hogmeister: Thanks for understanding too Mike, and hopefully you are getting better.

tag_one: That indeed is a shame, but here's to your return also.

Well gang I just wanted to let you all know I have some spare time to myself to look forward to (Permitting the other half and work), and have dug up the files and looking for a restarting point.  To be honest I didn't get quite far with the base as it happens, I started reaching into the realms of detail and got lost before being reminded of my coursework commitments. When I find that point of restart, I will show you every step of the way.

I am about to find some preview shots for you all to be reminded of and to just keep saying thankyou for the feedback and commitment you all have given me, and again like before with the SGM, it would sure mean nothing at all to me if it was not being supported by great people like you. I will keep saying this until my deathbed, telling the world that without it, I would be nothing short of a nobody.

So here's to you all; you've been very kind, pateint supportive and above all others - Immensively critical. ;D

Check back later for those previews...

I may play around with the dark & dull base of the tower itself when I start building the actual Casino hall around it; maybe add some flood lights or something. Now just to find a starting point...

The tower looks amazing and the night pic looks pretty good. I know what you mean about not being able to update, and I'm glad to see you will be sticking around. As for how to start the base, I suggest starting... from the beginning. Ok, wise acre remarks aside, I think a large rectangle would work well for a basic shape, with the edge of one of the sides stretching from tower tip to tower tip (leaving the 3rd tip to extend back down the middle of the rectangle... if that makes any sense) and use the part between tower tips for the entance. Perhaps have the entrance wall bend in a (very) little bit to compliment the tower curve as well. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

I was thinking of that, would remind me too much of the old one so I decided to start with some ideas off of the original and cut/paste as I saw fit, some places are basically rectanglish in comparison so expect to see some Matt!

For this to grow you need CAM installed, this is a stage 9, and you need a large amount of demand.  As for not seeing it in the landmarks menu, it should be there.  I have used this before with no problems.
