1) Can the Lot Editor be used to tweak lots with a Dat file format?
2) Can 3ds files be used as a prop and placed on a lot.
I got a lot dat file to open and I deleted some aircraft on it but when I went to save I got an error message the it didn't open and could not be saved.
My goal was to replace the deleted aircraft with 3 very good small aircraft from the LEX but they were in a 3ds format and I couldn't find them.
If these issue were discussed previously somewhere in the forum, please direct me.
1) The Lot Editor can open DAT files, but it won't save them. Use "save as..." and create a new SC4Lot file instead.
2) 3DS is the source format for 3D models. You will have to import and render them in gmax or 3DStudioMax first, then render them and make new props with the Plugin Manager.
Thank you for the response. The "Save As" button is shaded out and non-functional. The Save button is not shaded but it has the response I indicated above.
Looks like the change of the 3ds to prop involves more than my capabilities.
If the lots you are editing are airport lots then there are additional issues to do with those.

Will you direct me to those instructions if they are in the forums?
I guess reading this thread might enlighten you a bit: http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3515.0

Nope, just speaking from experience. I've had issues editing any lot in the airport menu, regardless on whether it was functional or not.

:D :D :D :D I think I'll just back out of the water gracefully (or not so gracefully) before I drown because this is way over my head and abilities.
Thank you for your response (to you to Diggis).
