:'( :'( :'( :'(
I'm a little lit up about this problem and I tried everything to fix it but to no prevail.
Last nite i was able to play SC4Deluxe without any troubles but today every time i go to click
on the city and start to load the city, it seems as it is gonna start the city then all the sudden the game crashes.
I've even deleted SC4 from my computer and reinstalled it thinking that might work and nope same exception report comes up.
Here is the Exception Report i get.
Can someone please help me SC4 is my only escape from RL. - PatQuoteException time: 02/27/2007, at 18:15:17.

Pat, according to your exception report, you have 192 MB RAM but only 12 MB available? That doesn't seem right. Are you running anything in the background? Scanned your system for viruses, spy-/malware lately? Install anything new since the last time your game worked correctly? Is anything else giving you any problems or is it just the game?
Pat, I had exactly the same symptoms. Not sure if the error report's the same, but I had adjusted my clock and I changed it again, and then set it to the right time and it all worked again.
Vab,
I've done a scan for both viruses and spy/malware today that is one of things i did try also and nothing.
The only three things that happend today was DL new Datpacker and Cleanital today and had to do a system restore.
The game worked fine last night.
The Ram issue i cant figure out either?
I have closed everything as not to use ram, so im totaly in the dark about that little problem.
the game has worked fine prior today.
Diggis,
Thank you for that thought.
I tried it but it didnt work for me unfourtantly.
Well I'm at a total loss here... - pat
Not sure why you had to do a system restore (more on that in a sec), but you said you d/l'd Cleanitol and Datpacker... did you install? If you did, maybe uninstall?
If you had to do a system restore that means something else happened? Do you know what? Also, spy-,malware and other PC badness often uses system restore to perpetuate itself on PCs. I have it turned off on all my systems and we disable it on PCs at work. I'm assuming you're using XP or 2K.
Having said that, if this were my system, I would try a couple of things in no particular order*:
a) Look in Control Panel, Add/Remove programs and see if there's anything you don't recognize. If you see something unfamiliar, look it up on the Internet. If there is anything to indicate malware/spyware, your best bet is to get a copy of HijackThis and run it on your system. There are several excellent sites that will analyze the HJT report and provide you with more help.
b) Make sure your virus definitions are up-to-date and run a full scan.
c) Remove *all* of your plugins and see if you can start the game up.
d) Not sure if you can run the game in safe mode but it might be worth a shot to boot up in safe mode and see if you can run the game. If you can, even though it'll look funky, it could be a problem with your video drivers.
e) If you have another system, try installing the game on a different computer.
* If you're not technically savvy, you should start with the game troubleshooting (c & d) before looking into your system.
Hope this helps or gives you a starting point. The memory thing bugs me because I had SC4 running in the background and did a system check and I had about 1/3 of my available memory free. Did you say whether or not you were experiencing problems with other programs? Oh and how much free disk space do you have?
If I can answer any questions, I'm usually at Peg's so feel free to holler at me over there or here.

Vab,
thank you very much for your help you are supppppppppper duppper awsome. lol
i havent tried to unistall datpacker or cleanitol as of yet but may do so.
all the def is up to date for virus, I have CA Security Center and it updates daily.
yuppers i allready did a troubleshoot and everything turned out fine cept RAM which is anther story
to itself thanks to the local HACK your system REMESS my system up (i mean Computer Repair tech. ;D)
long of short i think she ripped me off some memory but since mom doesn't have reciepts from when she owned
my puter i cant prove nothing, cause i know she had to do something when she told me she had 2hd on here
for a total of 74.5 gb and then put Xp serv pac 2 on my aptiva 2171-585 machine to only find out its one HD
and free space is 57.5 gb. I hope that little input helps as well. lol gotta love little storys lol
ok what has happend is that i tried anther system restore i know i shouldn't have done it
but it had worked. Heres the troubling part why i had to a sys in the first place today,
seems that lately once every 3 wks the computer has a glich where as when i boot it up for the
day it starts off normaly and then all the sudden it makes a click noise then reboots itself.
Then the computer shuts down after attempting to reboot itself. So this is sys restore comes into play.
restore to a prior date, then everything is fine except today.
that is when i've been having all the troubles. but now again tonight after this other sys restore i did and redeleted
SC4Deluxe including all saved cities which man that hurts but its done its trick i was able to get back in and play again.
I did save one map i was working on but scared to load it back in cause that seemed to me what caused these issues?
plugins i still have both compressed and regular just dont know if im gonna reuse them yet?
so thats that in a nut shell and i hope some of this info helps explain some more - pat
Quoteall the sudden it makes a click noise then reboots itself
Ouch, ouch and ouch
I had the same noise last years, it was HD failure premises. I lost almost everything.
As for knowning if it is datpacker fault, ( I'm a bit frighten if it is ), just create a sandbox region with the compressed plugins and another with the normals. Also repacking everything in case of error when using the 'compressed' may help.
Also a sandbox region without any plugins may give you some indication in case of errors.
Hope'll find and solve what is going on
Well glad you got it working ... for now. Since it seems to be working after the system restore, I would look at the problem as being software-driven.
The click noise, however, may or may not be a problem so you really should try to pinpoint the cause. Generally, if it's one click right after start up and immediately before the system reboots (hard to describe but something like, system boots up, CLICK, monitor goes black, system reboots), it's probably coming from your monitor and unlikely to be a problem. If it's a click-click-click coming from the case or, worse yet, a mechanical noise, it could be the fan or it could be the hard drive - in which case, you'd better make sure you back up your data to an external drive. You can try running XP hard drive diagnostics (scandisk and defrag), but my experience with them is they're not very useful. If you want to run scandisk, open My Computer, right-click on the C: drive and select Properties. Click the Tools tab and under Error-checking, click the Check Now button. Select both options and click the Start button. Windows will tell you that it can't do it now and ask you if you want to run it the next time the PC is booted up. Say yes and the next time Windows starts, it'll run scandisk -- which could take a while. Again, this may or may not tell you there are hard drive errors.
