Today I thought it would be a good time to make a backup copy of my region. Instead of copying the files and moving them to the backup folder, I accidentally just moved the folder. No big deal I thought since I still had all the files and I would just move them back. Now when I try to load my region, it takes 21 of the files and moves them to a new created folded called "Downloads" in my regions folder. The other 134 or so tiles are still in the original folder. It also renames the city tiles when it moves them to the "Downloads" folder so comparing the two folders I have for example two "Elizabeth County (3).sc4" files.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before and know of a way to solve it or are those 21 city tiles done for? I tried renaming the files in the "Downloads" folder and move them back to the "Braska" folder but the game did not recognize them. Any help would be appreciated, I am estimating the 21 tiles equals hmmmmmm, carry the one, multiply by 3, A LOT OF HOURS OF WORK.
If I recall correctly when I started to code SC4TF I got the same weird problems, in the city file there is a unique id, if 2 files in the same region ( and even elsewhere IIRC ) then one will be delete. However it is not exactly what you're experiencing.
I think you can ( after making a backup of all your files ) try to 'import' in SC4
at last resort ( and if noone else come with another better idea ) You may also try to edit your region in SC4TF with unlocking all cities, then raise 10m and save ( SC4TF will ask you for each city if you really want to save, push the 'no' button, it will save but keep all trees, networks etc.. ), then lower 10m and save again ( push 'no' button again )
I think SC4TF will regenerate the UID
wouanagaine,
I completely forgot about the import function :-[ Just tried it and I was able to import the city from the downloads back into the correct region. My only problem now is that I set up my regions as counties instead of cities (because how many cities are only the size of 2.5 x 2.5 miles). Therefore, for example I will have Elizabeth County (1-24). Would you know of any way I would be able to tell which city tile is which (since they renamed back to 1 when they were put into the download folder). Or do I have to just test them one by one to get it right? Testing one by one will take awhile but nowhere near the time that it would take to recreate them. Thanks for your help; I went into a bit of panic mode and the brain shut down (I also found out the problem right before I had to go to work).
Just copy back all your sc4 files from downloads to the region folder, run SC4TF or even simpler Region Census (http://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=913 ), it will list all the files and city name
Do a backup before, just in case
