My plugin file was so big it was slowing down my game play. I reworked my plugin file and downloaded a bunch of new plugins from the LEX. Now I go to play my old "homemade" region and every time I open a new city I get a crash to desktop. When I go to other regions based on Maxis regions that came with the game, there is no problem. I tried runing the game with no plugins. When I open a city in a Maxis based regions there was no problem. When I tried to open a new city in my homemade regions I crash to the desktop. I put in my old plugins in and I can open a city in any region without a crash. Anyone have an idea as to what is going on? Is if something in my old plugin file? But why do I get a crash with no plugins? Or maybe it has nothing to do with plugins and something to do with my "homemade" regions. But why would they work with some plugins, but not others or none? I'm stumped. (A "homemade" region is one creaded by a config file I made myself with the paint program)
looks to me like your region is bugged
go back to your old plugins and verify the city tile is valid......
if so, you removed a major mod.....a terrain mod, CAM, NAM, ie.....
Also check on any seaports you may have in the old region plugins. If you remove installed seaports that can cause crashing.
I'm not an expert on SC4 crashes or anything... but why don't you try nto hand-terraform your region instead of making it through a software?
WC: I thought it might be something with the region too. But What? And what could be in that plug in file that would make it work?
Choco: I'm not sure what you mean by a "valid" city tile. It crashes in both named cities and unnamed "new cities" in my homemade regions. The most recent NAM and CAM were re-installed in the new plugin set and both were properly installed in the old set. But why would it crash in the homemade region with nothing in the plugin folder? I also tried my old terrain mod with the new plugin set and it still crashed in the homemade regions, but not the Maxis regions.
Barby: thanks for the info on seaports, but neither city had a seaport. And as i mentioned above, it crashes in my homemade regions with nothing in the plugin folder in a new city with nothing built.
Alan: Thanks, I may try the sofeware method when I get this problem fixed. But I LIKE to hand terraform! If I don't figure this out I will probably just hand terraform more of the Maxis regions.
The one thing I have not tried is making a new "homeade" region with the new plugin set.
Thanks for your help guys. If anyone else has any ideas. Bring 'em on.
Bob
"valid" simply means useable.....or no CTD. if you can load a city, its "valid".....
if you cannot open a city tile no matter which plugins you have, you have a corrupted map. this happens for a variety of reasons, mainly (least from my experience, which is minimal) when one decides to rearrange his/her plugins without deleting the lots to be removed from the cities.
as i said, restore your old plugins folder and try again. if it works, your city is not corrupt. if it doesn't work with the old plugins, time to start a new region.
I understand. I can open the cities in my homemade regions with the old plugins but not with the new plugins. But, the cities also crash to desktop with nothing in the plugin file. Where is the problem? If it is a problem with a plugin, why does it crash with no plugins? If it is a problem with the region, why does it work with my old plugins? The regions were created obviousluy with the old plugin file. But many of those plugins are still in the new file, and the terrain mod is the same. What could be in that plugin set that makes it work when nothing else will? Bear in mind I am talking about crashing in brand new cities as well as ones that have development.
