The NAM Team is pleased to announce the release of the January '09 Network Addon Mod (NAM)
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
This is a full release as opposed to the recent updates- the team has looked the NAM over top to bottom this time around and, in addition to adding the most new content in several years, has made numerous changes and adjustments that leave this release as the best NAM yet.

So what's new in this release of the NAM?

  * RHW 3.0 has arrived!  The NAM is ready for installation of the RHW 3.0 plugin, which is downloaded separately.  The plugin will add numerous upgrades and improvements to the existing RHW, to include

  * Catch up to the FLUP!  The Flexible Underpass (FLUP) road puzzle piece plugin for roads allow the creation of modular road underpasses.
  * Board the T-RAM!  The Tram-in-Road (T-RAM) puzzle pieces let the user build complete urban tram systems.
  * Expand your GLR!  New GLR-in-Avenue puzzle pieces have been added and old ones have been enhanced and improved, providing for greatly increased functionality of ground light rail systems.
  * Increase your speed!  The High Speed Rail Project (HSRP) has been completely revamped using puzzle piece starter technology, and is now side-by-side compatible with the game monorail system.
  * Why-a-duck?  No... vi-a-duct!  New Rail Viaduct puzzle pieces have been added, including new diagonal pieces, diagonal on-slope pieces, and viaduct on PedMall pieces.
  * Take the next exit!  The first new Ground Highway interchanges in years have been added, including direct to one-way road off- and on ramps, and trumpet and the long-awaited partial "Y" highway interchanges
  * Curves ahead!  Several new road and rail wide-radius curves have been added, along with additional Fractional Angle Road (FAR) and Railroad (FARR) puzzle pieces.  Road and rail puzzle piece preview models and textures have been also improved.
  * Switch to a new track!  Wide radius rail switch puzzle pieces allow, in conjunction with the use of wide curves and the FARR, greater realism in designing dual rail systems than ever before.  Rail over rail crossings have also been retextured and made far more realistic appearing.
  * Commute with ease!  A completely new set of Traffic Controller plugins has been included.
  * Take the road less traveled!  This NAM is ready for the soon-to-be-released Rural Roads and eagerly awaited Single Track Rail plugins.
  * We've got you covered!  A variety of RUL, texture and pathing errors have been fixed.  There are also numerous code upgrades and fixes for existing content such as the SAM (Street Addon Mod) and HSR (High Speed Rail), along with other NAM components.

The Network Addon Mod is only compatible with SimCity 4 Rush Hour and Deluxe. You also need the SimCity 4 Rush Hour/Deluxe Patch for proper functionality. The detailed readme and other documentation included with the January '09 NAM will have your transportation networks up and running in no time.  The Windows version of the NAM comes with an installer that will guide you through the installation process.  Mac users will need to unzip and set up the files manually (this option is also available to Windows users who elect to), but the included documentation makes this simple and straightforward.NAM content from your cities before uninstallation.

The Windows version of the January '09 NAM can be downloaded here [linkie] (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=851).

The Mac version of the January '09 NAM can be downloaded here [linkie] (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=852).

Please note that the LEX requires separate registration.  If you are not registered there yet, these links will not work.

While we have thoroughly tested the new NAM prior to its release, we ask that should you discover any bugs or encounter any issues with its use that you would let us know about them by posting in the official NAM Issues Thread [linkie] (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=1444.0).  We also welcome your feedback and suggestions for further improvement,  The NAM is what it is today in many ways because of input from the community.  Thank you!

So, welcome to the January '09 NAM.  Enjoy!

The NAM Team

Unfortunately, there was a small bug in the NAM Controller that leads to a crash to desktop under certain circumstances. If you already downloaded the new NAM, please re-download the NAM Essentials (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=850) and update the NAM Controller - no further action needed. :)

Thank you for the new NAM!
It is great and I waited since X-Mas for that!

2 questions:
- Wasn't it planned to make the new avenue roundabouts with GLR configurable (different T21 to allow choosing the type and number of plants in the roundabout)?
- What about the draggable rail catenaries? Will there be a new mod with the SFBT catenaries?

Thank you again!

Thanks so much!! I love the FLUp, and ew interchanges!

1 ?, I have the highway mod that makes the Maxis highways black, is there a way to make the custom interchanges,( trumpet, orthogonal, ect) all one color? I get both colors.

Thanks

@justatast: The T21 stuff for the Avenue/GLR Roundabout is optional; it probably makes better sense to release an individual mod with a few choices. Feel free to make some suggestions yourself. :) Draggable Rail catenaries will come eventually, but Kenworth needs some time to render props for the viaducts and the new Wide Radius Curves and the Fractional Angle RailRoads first.

@bob56: Well, the HSR needs to be updated with the new textures that come with the NAM - I'm sure mrtnrln will start that project that soon.

@Andreas: Thanks for the clarification.
Regarding the avenue+GLR roundabouts: I've seen the proposals of Chrisim. I like them balnk or with just some plants on them, preferrably only flower beds (of different types?) and bushes.

Yes, they are.  The only reason the NAM Essentials has been mentioned so much is for people who downloaded the main NAM file before we fixed an issue with one of the RUL files.  If you were to go onto the LEX and download the Mac version right now, the files would be updated.

Thanks for the quick reply, and that's what I figured.  I had had the Essentials Filejuiced and installed previously, just in case, but it seemed a bit weird that there would be no zip file upload of the Essentials to go with the Mac version of the NAM.

That's a good idea, in fact.

The NAM Essentials use the Clickteam installer, so you should be able to use FileJuicer. Or is that one of the downloads that doesn't "juice" properly? Then a separate ZIP version could be made.
Title: Re: The January '09 NAM Release
Post by: toxicpiano on January 16, 2009, 02:41:31 AM
Someone could always make an osx installer package. I have OSX, so does goaskin and a couple of others. Thing is I don't know if you can have checkbox options like with the click team installer. I think if you couldn't, a zip file would be better than going through file juicer.

There isn't really a new HSRP, only a updated one of with a maor bug fixed (see HSRP thread) and the HSRP hub that was released alongside the HSRP last year, that will now work.

It "juices," but not entirely properly.  The dats comes through fine (they work in the game), but all the file names get changed to the name of the installer with a bunch of numbers afterwards, so if there are multiple dats in the installer, it's hard to tell what each individual file does.  The only place where this has been a real issue for me was with the SFBT rail texture mod, where I couldn't tell which files were for dirt, concrete, grass, and just darkening the rail texture (I figured it out through trial and error).
Title: Re: The January '09 NAM Release
Post by: Andreas on January 16, 2009, 06:03:43 PM
Ah, I see. Well, that's an issue if you're trying to extract a specific file indeed, but for the NAM Essentials, I guess it is sufficient to extract all three files, and compare the filesizes with the controller files (NetworkAddonMod_Bridges_Plugin_Controller.dat, NetworkAddonMod_Controller.dat, NetworkAddonMod_IndividualNetworkRULs.dat) that come with the NAM - they should be nearly identical if there was an update posted. In any case, if you encounter a NAM or SFBT installer where it doesn't work properly, simpy send me a PM or e-mail, then I'll provide you with a ZIP file. :)

The new NAM is fantastic! I'm going to rethink an entire city because of the new T-RAM and new GLR Ave grass textures which are the coolest thing yet, also the flexible road tunnel and rail curves basically everything is great! I'd be playing it right now if it wasn't for the Battlestar Galatica marathon and premiere  :D

May sound stupid..........but I have just one question, maybe I have overlooked it somewhere, but I can't seem to remember seeing it. Do we have to uninstall the older version of the NAM or is this January 09 version only an update or add-on?

Please don't shoot me now. Thank you.

Post by: Swamper77 on January 16, 2009, 07:31:22 PM
Mr. Bison,

It would be best to uninstall the older version first to avoid conflicts with the new version. This version is a complete release, not an update or addon. The RHW and SAM V3 mods will still work with the new version of the NAM.

Those walls are not part of the NAM, and not part of the RHW either. I assume you can find them on the LEX, though.

You might want to ask Tarkus about those walls as they look like the ones he uses in his MD

Those walls are made be either Mas71 or Jeronij. Both authors have files on the LEX.

Yes, those are the ones I use in my MD.  They're part of MAS71's Walls Pack 2 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1504).  I'm using "Texture 5" on them.

Very cool. The fractional angle stuff and the modular underpasses ought to be fun to play with

Dos the GLR / Tram-in-Road system need stations? If so, where are they? I can't seem to find any in the game...

There are no stations for T-RAM. They are still being developed.

Sorry, there aren't diagonal onslopes for any networks except for Ground Highway and Rail. No one has made the models or puzzle pieces yet for the rest of the networks.

Uh, actually I made and tested a diagonal road OnSlope to get a handle on diagonal OnSlopes before I made the diagonal ground highway OnSlope.   As I recall, I never finished it (it had wealth textures, but no T21s).   Just another thing on the backburner.

That's an issue with the STR Beta NAM Controller. Try using the NAM Controller.dat that's included with the January '09 update, that should solve your problem.

Just saw the release thank you  &apls so much. Everytime I start to get distracted by something else that's shiny, the new NAM comes out to ignite that spark I need to keep building, tanx team. I have a question for you regarding the different rail systems. I never have been able to play extensively to get beyond the passenger train but are the T RAM, GLR, and the EL all exclusive to themselves? or are they an interchangable system? Like does running the GLR replace the other two or one or not at all? When the GLR first came out many moons ago I assume it was just the EL running on the street level, or are they (I hope) all different networks running independantly in one city, that would be soooooooooo cool. jaatt.

jaatt, thanks for the kind words!  I'm glad you're enjoying it.  As far as the various rail systems, none of them replace one another.  GLR, while it is based on the Elevated Rail Network, doesn't replace it.  Rather, you just use special starter pieces, drag Elevated Rail from them and they instantly turn into GLR.  We've been able to make extensive use of that technology to essentially create "new" networks in a way.  They all use the same path type, though, so you can have the same train go from an Elevated Rail section to a GLR onto a T-RAM or GLR-in-AVE setup.

Hope that answers your question.

Hi folks, first of all - thanks to everyone who has his share in creating wonderful things like the NAM. Simcity would not be interesting without all these addons.

Acutaly, I read about (ans saw pictures, of course) the Single Track Rail. However, I cannot find the download souce. Is this still under developement? Or is it just that I repeatedly missed it somwhere on the LEX?

cheers,

Rady
