What have you added or removed immediately before having the CTD problems?

I wasn't really doing anything except zoning and building infrastructure...so I have no clue what the problem is, I wasn't plopping any pugins or anything, like I said this is the first time it's been doing this

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated..  :) lol

I'm pretty sure BarbyW meant if you added or removed something from your plugin folder. ;)

Another possible explanation... Were you using puzzle pieces GLR? There's a known bug that if your cursor will go over a transit enabled lot while holding one of the GLR pieces, the game will (most probably) CTD.

Furthermore, do you have a dual processor machine? I experienced the same problems until I changed the simcity.exe to run on just one processor: After starting SC4, wait until you see the region view. Then switch to desktop, run the task manager, go to the processes tab, locate simcity.exe. --> rightclick to bring up the context meue --> select "Zugehörigkeit festlegen" (sorry,  I have no idea what the english translation might be, but it's the last entry in the context menu) --> select just one cpu.

Haven't had a single CTD since then (exept for that "puzzle piece bug").

Hope that helps,

cheers

to restrict the game to only one CPU (on dual/quadcore machines), open up task manager (ctrl+alt+del) go to the processes tab, right click on simcity4.exe, select:  "set CPU affinity" and select only one CPU (can be either 0,1,2 or 3)

Another problem might bee too many plugins (CTD's are happening very often when you got thousands of different plugin files in your plugins folder). This can be solved with the DAT Packer, available on the LEX.

Stupid question time.

Would I have to do this each and every time I start up the game?

As for the CPU affinity --> yes, you will need to set this every time you start SC4 (however, this should not be considered a major issue ..)

As for the DAT packer --> no, you just have to pack your plugin once. That is, of course you will need to re-pack them once you added additional plugins (refer to the SC4 DAT packer documentation for detailed information on that topic)
