Title: ANNOUNCEMENT: March 2009 NAM Release
Post by: Tarkus on March 07, 2009, 04:32:54 PM
The NAM Team is pleased to announce the release of the March 2009 Network Addon Mod (NAM)

Features
-Numerous bugfixes, also addressing the issue of Custom Interchange Preview Models replacing other game buildings
-Incorporation of improved rail textures, allowing for better color match with Rail Puzzle Pieces
-Rail, Elevated Light Rail and Monorail cosmetic improvements by dedgren and Swamper77
-Updated NAM Controller and Bridge Controller, allowing for compatibility with the new Rail Addon Mod/Single Track Rail (RAM/STR) and Rural Roads plugins (available separately), new bridges by threestooges and choco (available separately) and bugfixes coinciding with the Rural Highway Mod (RHW) Version 3.2 update.

For those of you who have the January 2009 NAM release and don't wish to redownload the entire NAM Core Package again, a NAM March 2009 Update will be released within the next couple days, incorporating only the files changed during the update.

Looks great though!

Thanks, Hal!  It's fixed now. ;-) -Alex

For everyone who is wondering why the ZIP file of the STR Windows version is labeled "Mac": I accidentially uploaded the wrong file in the first place, and unfortunately, the LEX keeps the filenames, even when updating a file. I added Windows and Mac logos to the screenshots, so it should be clear which is the correct version. :)

No, if you download the updated NAM, the NAM Essentials (NAM Controller) is included already. However, if you don't want to download the complete NAM yet again, download the NAM Essentials for the ability to use all the new bridges, STR and Rural Roads plugin, as well as the RHW RUL bugfixes.

Yeah, that's true. ;) I'll have to think up some alternative Euro textures for them - such as a continuous white line, which indicates that overturning is forbidden. But we'll see about that...

It was designed to be just that...rural. No traffic lights at the intersections , etc.

I was hoping that David (or some one else) would incorporate what you know who had done with his road mod by adding stop text and lines at the intersections. I tried to do it when in beta , but couldn't get the alphas to line up correctly.

The Rural Roads Plugin currently has American textures. Someone will have to make the Euro versions of the textures.
The Euro textures of the normal road do already cover all roads, whether rural or urban. IMO, there is no need for the Rural Roads plugin when building European landscapes. Therefore, the plugin is optional - it is designed more for the American players. I won't install it.

In the UK we have dashed line one side and solid on the other(one side can overtake the other can't), so I made this texture that replaces the Orth Rural Roads texture, (but also in the UK curves have double solid white lines), maybe something like this could be the Euro Textures for the RR plugin?

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi200.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa230%2FwarriorST%2FEuroRR.jpg&hash=d35ced67e15b45c184a823da9a5555bb9226060e)

Will, the STR has a LHD option in the installer, so yes it works with LHD.

thanks for everything!!!! HUGE surprise.

A ?...is all this (NAM, RHW) okay to use with cities made with Jan. NAM and RHW 3.0?

Also, in the essentials windows installer, where you select 'update bridges' update controller' or 'both' on the top of the window, if you select 'update, or both, it shows up as January 2009.

Rural Roads also cover SAM Curves, which makes it a must-have for me, despite the fact that I use Euro textures.

Oh, very interesting, but I saw a problem: it's the bad link for the Windows STR version ;) There's just for MAC and when you clik on the link for the Windows version, you can just have this:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi306.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn258%2FSciurus54%2FProbMAC.jpg&hash=4782c6d52d15ee542588b3441b37e9e6ef4f4bc3)

And I would like to have this, so, try to repair speed this problem please ;)

And Warrior, very excellent idea you have there &apls

@bob56: Looks like I forgot to update the version number for some of the options - the files are the March 2009 controllers, though.

@Scririus: Unfortunately, I selected the wrong file in the first place. I updated it later, but once uploaded, the filename stays, that's how the LEX software is programmed. The ZIP does contain the Windows installer, though.

@Dexist: You can overwrite the January 2009 NAM, but please make sure to select the same plugins, esp. the same Traffic Plugin, than before.

I think it's just much easier to uninstall all the NAM folder and reinstall all the components, that way you've got rid of the small bugfixes that are included in the March Downloads, and you don't have to worry about whether you got the right file or not :)

In the US, passing lanes work exactly the same way, so the same texture could be used for both places.  I'm pretty sure the curves are double white lines as well (makes sense), but it's been a while since I've been on those rural roads, so some confirmation of this would be good.
Title: Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: March 2009 NAM Release

The main problem with one dashed and one solid line is that you need two diagonal pieces, one where the dashed line is on the left side and one with the dashed line on the right. But I guess we could make a single solid line (which means overtaking is not allowed, at least in Germany) as a replacement for the US lines on the Rural Road pieces. The puzzle pieces could be used in hilly terrain, or extending the WRC curves that also have a solid line in some cases. Plus, the intersection puzzle pieces would work fine with Euro textures as well, having the advantage of no traffic lights and such.

QuoteThe main problem with one dashed and one solid line is that you need two diagonal pieces, one where the dashed line is on the left side and one with the dashed line on the right.
Or just add a Transpose line to the RULs and the texture would flip.

Maybe someone could do a UK Textures mod, that adds on to the Euro Textures mod?

I have updated the NAM files on the LEX, all reported bugs should be fixed now. For those who already installed the NAM March 2009 update: You only have to re-download the NAM Essentials once again and update both the NAM Controller and the Bridge controller, as both files were updated. :)

No, unfortunately not, but it's on my list, along with some other goodies. :) If there's a bug in the January 2009 NAM that really annoys you, download the March 2009 full version, otherwise, just download the NAM Essentials, if you intend to use the STR, Rural Roads or the new bridges. More frequent NAM Essentials updates are very likely, as we're trying to publish smaller packages (such as the Rural Roads, STR etc.), so you don't have to wait that long between the releases. We will continue to update the full version of the NAM (and rename it accordingly) for new and novice users, but for experienced users, a NAM Update installer will be a faster way to update their installation, so downloading another full version is only necessary once a year or so.

solid double centerline end means that it is the transition piece between normal (double line) roads and the Rural Roads.

Try them out in game, just experiment in empty city :)

The NAM essentials file is incorrectly named June 2007, while the exe inside is dated march 8th 2009. So I suppose I have the right file.

And also: there have been some small issues and fixes of these issues. Will they be put in another NAM that will be released soon or is it better to install all these fixes? If yes: it would be very comfortable if they could be added to the list in the sticky post above.

Thanks for the hard work!

That's nice to hear.  Even though I'm still not sure where to place myself, in which group. Guess I'm still a novice. Then again, I know how to...mah

The LEX filenames on the server stay the same, regardless of the updates. Check the last update date to see when the file was last updated.

Attached patch files that add LHD compatibility to choco's HSR bridges and monorail bridges. If his bridges are not functioning in your game try this.

EDIT : Removed attachment. I'll add path files for the new bridges and post it to this topic.
2nd edit : For members who need LHD patch for choco's bridges, please open the NAM Japanese Translation thread from my signature. Patch file is attached to the first post of that thread.

June 26th, 2009 EDIT:
June 2009 version of the NAM already includes necessary files. You don't need to install patch file.

Hi guys!

I'm really excited about this mod - it's been a long time since I've played SC4 and I'm glad to be back.
But I can't figure out how to install it.  &mmm
Please explain to me - I am logged in to this site, as evidenced by this post.
When I visit the "March 2009 NAM" link at: http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=851
I can't seem to find any download links or install links or anything.

Please help if you can - thanks!

EDIT:
Thankfully a sticky has been made that addresses this question -

The NAM Team is proud to announce some updates, and also new downloads. :) Here's a list of files that have been updated and/or uploaded to the LEX:

NAM Essentials April 2009 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=850) by The NAM Team

The updated version of the NAM Essentials contains an updated version of the Bridge Controller, which adds support for the new bridges listed below. Also, it includes a new version of the NAM UI file, adding new custom "NAM Team Certified" UIs. The "NAM Team Certified" logo has been created as a "certificate" for lots that have been thoroughly tested by the NAM Team, i. e. their behavior regarding various Traffic Plugin files etc. The NAM UI file also includes a modified Bridge Selection menu, created by ebina, which will fix the truncation of long bridge name labels.

Monorail Bridges (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2001) by choco

This pack has been updated, it now contains a new Monorail Suspension bridge. Simpy install into the same folder and overwrite the old files. Please make sure to install the updated Bridge Controller from the NAM Essentials April 2009 version as well.

HSR Bridges (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2002) by choco

This pack includes three new HSR bridges, plus some bugfixes of the existing HSR bridges.  Simpy install into the same folder and overwrite the old files. Please make sure to install the updated Bridge Controller from the NAM Essentials April 2009 version as well.

Concrete Street Bridge (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2038) by choco

This download includes an updated version of the concrete street bridge. For some reason, I forgot to upload it to the LEX before, but if you got it from SimCityKurier, get this version for the bugfixes.

El-Rail Bridges (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2039) by choco

This new bridge pack contains three different El-Rail bridges.  Please make sure to install the updated Bridge Controller from the NAM Essentials April 2009 version as well.

HSR Subway Converters (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2040) by 3ddz and ebina

ebina created some new subway transition lots, using 3ddz's old HSR tunnel models. They work similar as morifari's GLR subway transition lots. Please make sure to install the latest NAM Essentials for the "NAM Team Certified" UIs.

STR Beverly Station (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2041) by bighead99

Beverly Station by bighead99 is the first station that was created for the Single Track Rail Mod (STR). This is another "NAM Team Certified" lot that requires the latest NAM Essentials.

Enjoy! :)

Well, same here, actually. 90% of the time I spend in SC4 is testing, testing, testing. ;) I haven't used 80% of the new content in my cities yet...

Yes, a lot (developed by a NAM Team member, but obviously, that is no prerequisite). ;) The NAM itself won't contain any lots ever, but we do see that people have a hard time finding stations etc. for the NAM transit items, so the NAM icon might help them to track them down. Also, many developers seem to hesitate creating new items for NAM-related content, because they don't know how to mod them. The NAM Team is offering any help that is necessary to make those items fully functional, so don't hesitate to contact us. :)

Sorry for the late feedback; I haven't even had time to launch SC4 until this week  :shocked2:

I definitely like the additions in the January and March 2009 NAM, especially the underpasses and the expanded capabilities for the GLR network.  The NAM just keeps getting better every time.

One thing though: Although the underpasses are great, the number of networks under which they can travel is limited.  More specifically, I would certainly like to see a GLR cross piece in this set.  I know it is possible to change the GLR into elevated rail or subway for road crossings, but often there are just not enough tiles in my cramped cities to do plot the transition piece on both sides (in addition to the fact that doing so is not aesthetically pleasing).

Nonetheless, the NAM has kept me playing SC4, and I hope to see further upgrades in the future!

I have seen pieces *called* glr-subway transition, but I haven't gotten any of them to work yet.  I'd really like a glr-subway transition, it'd probably look just like an underpass and be able to be used under just about anything.

NDEX makes a GLR-subway transition that works pretty well (it's on the STEX).  What I meant though was a road under GLR piece.  So you could extend the NAM's new road underpasses under heavy rail, avenues, other roads, highways, and GLR.

Ah, so you mean a FLUPs under GLR piece?  That's a good idea.

Hey David are you using IE to access the LEX? If so try another browser and see if you can download no problem, I just tried with Opera and had no problems with March 2009 core files (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=851)...  There was someone else reporting the same problem and I bet this might work to use something other then IE....
