Title: Making curved highways
Post by: hawaiianredhead on April 13, 2009, 08:51:42 PM
I am a real newbie to SimCity 4 delux and I am still learning the ins and outs of my building.  One difficult thing for me is how to build curved highways.  I am curve the roads, streets, etc.  Also can you curve the train tracks?  I won't even try the add-ins yet for fear of messing up (plus I don't eve know what they are)  ::)  Thank you for your help.

With NAM you can get curved rail pieces but without you will have to make two 45 degree angles. You can curve a highway. Its a bugger to do. You need to do that in two 45 degree lots as well.

I would seriously consider the NAM add on. The amount of what many consider missing components in the transit side of things are amazing. Roundabouts, diagonal highway intersections, rail over road, bus and subway stations on roads, avenues and streets are some of the brilliant things included.

Of course I am assuming you have the rush hour and deluxe expansion. If you have vanilla SC4 then NAM is a no go I believe.

Correct, you need to have either Rush Hour or Deluxe to use the NAM. The files that the NAM depends on from the game are not available in the original SC4 files.

Oh, there are many different exchanges available in net. Personally, I recommend LEX and STEX. A short guide to using them:

LEX: (SC4Devotion's Exchange)
1. Go here (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/Default.htm) [linkie!]
2. Click on register button, as you have to register separately to LEX and SC4D's forums.
3. Register yourself.
4. Activate your account.
5. Log into the exchange
6. Start downloading whatether you want!

STEX: (Simtropolis Exchange)
1. Go here (http://www.simtropolis.com/) [linkie!]
2. If you haven't already, register on Simtropolis.
3. Go to the 'ST Exchange'.
4. Start downloading!
NOTE: You don't need to register seperately to STEX and Simtropolis. ;)

Also remember to unpack everything you download (using WinRAR or similiar application) to your My Documents/Plugins folder. There's one exception: exe files. Just run them and install the plugin.

Hope that helps! :)

And if you're going to try the NAM, I suggest to read the included readme file first - it's a long read, but since the NAM is very extensive, you will have some questions sooner or later, of which pretty much all of them are answered in the NAM readme files.

Thank you to everyone that responded.  I will try all of them (NAM, LEX, STEX) unless they are not compatible with each other.  I'm a few years behind the curve ( ;) ) on the whole Sim world.  Thanks again
