Title: Double Capacity fix?
Post by: dkisyuk on April 29, 2009, 07:08:38 PM
It's obvious that there are a lot of threads complaining about this problem, but is there really nothing that can be done until CAM1.1 is out?

My city is sitting with large demand and yet very few workers in my commercials...

You mean your commercial buildings aren't big enough to satisfy the demand? If that's the problem I suggest to search for some large CAMeLOT commercials ;)

Well no, the problem is that I have commercial buildings with 200-400 workers, yet doing route query shows that only 30 of residents of my city are actually commuting there. So there are very few workers actually... working. So the amount of commercial zoning I need is disproportionate to how much residential I have. =\

Unfortunately it has appeared to be impossible to make a fix for CAM 1.0.
CAM 2.0 will fix the problem, but CAM 2.0 will not be compatible with CAM 1.0.
Thus, whenever CAM 2.0 is released, you will have to start a new region to use it.

Can't I just 'uninstal' CAM 1.0 before installing CAM 2.0? If not, why?
Will I:
a. get a CTD?
b. ruin my cities?
c. get weird demand graphs?
d. all of the above (CTD waits for aprox 5 minutes)?

Just consider what would happen if the simulator suddenly thinks half your residential capacity has disappeared... ::)
This is the same thing that happens if you only uninstall CAM 1.0 and revert to using just Rush Hour.

In a small region you might be able to overcome this after some time...
However, a big region would certainly experience massive commercial and industrial abandonment.

Thus, out of your options, most likely:

Define small, my CAM region currently has approx. 140.000 citizens, whereas my largest (non CAM) region has 1,1 million inhabitants.

There's no clear level at which small becomes large... ::)
I guess you'd have to test that out by yourself once we're there... :)

For that I take it that it'll be a long time before CAM 2.0 comes out, unfortunately. I don't think that I have that much time for playing with this region in the next 5/6 weeks, as I will have plenty of homework during that time. Any quick way for someone to fix the Double Capacity in the current CAM? By which I don't mean manually modifying every examplar. BTW: could you explain to me why CAM 1.0 also contains the lot exemplar files of some Maxis  stage 1-7 lots?

Greetings,
Korot

Ouch... my region of 2 million citizens may have to go to waste = \

No, there is unfortunately no way of fixing that.
It's not as simple as modifying certain exemplars...

It's the simple fact that RCI exemplars are modified in CAM that causes the problem.
Somehow the exemplars are not simply replacing those within SimCity_1.dat...
Some sums seem to be loaded twice and added to each other...
And there's no way of fixing that, other than making the modifications directly into SimCity_1.dat.

We corrected some obvious errors and mistakes that Maxis made (fixing the growth stage).
Also, all industrial building exemplars are included, with corrected (usually higher) capacity numbers.

I understand a bit about the Eternal Commuter issue in that if I have 4 cities and connect them A-B-C-D-A that I will end up with the problem.  My question is, does that issue translate out to say 6 cities... A-B-C-D-E-F-A?  Will I get eternal commuters in that situation?

Is it a better strategy to have a central city and simply have the outlying cities connected to the central city:

     C
     |
D - A - B
     |
     E

Where there are no connections between D - E, E-B, B-C, C-D?

People might travel from B,C,D and E towards A, but wherever they go next, they won't go any further, as they aren't stupid enough to go back to where they came from. They do remember coming from tile A, the previous tile, but not if it is more than, lets say 2 steps behind. Another reason why EQ doesn't equal IQ.
