Title: Jeronij's Modern Concrete Walls v2 Shading issue
Post by: schm0 on March 22, 2007, 07:41:06 AM
Anyone know if there's a solution to the shading bug in Jeronij's 2x Underbridge pieces? I've included a picture to highlight what I mean. There is an identical piece on the opposite side of the bridge that isn't shaded so dark.... maybe it was rendered wrong?

(Yes, those are 15m slopes.)

:-[ ..... I cant imagine why these shadows appear there.... %confuso but after a quick test, the only solution would be to re-render them  &mmm

The shadows are applied by the game's lighting engine, based on rotation and angles. Re-rendering won't help in this case. Lots with base textures and BAT models are handled differently than each other.

After re-reading the intial post, and Jan's reply ( thanks for your always clear and concise technical notes  ), I understand there is no solution.
You could try moving forward a little bit the prop on the lot ( make a backup first ¡¡¡)

Colyn,  he used Smoncrie's Hole digging lots to create the trench
he layed a normal railroad
he used the on-slope road puzzle pieces for the start/end of the bridges
he used the road over railroad puzzle pieces for the rest of the bridges
He used the under-bridge 2X walls lot to skin the trench, just ploped in the tile right near the bridges

I hope that it the kind of explanation you are asking for  ;D

I have used that and never get the exact right depth  ???

schm0 says he used the 15 meters deep HDL.
It comes to my mind that the terrain controller settings may have some effect on the way that the slopes are created. You may want to try with the Maxis terrain?
you can also try with the 16 meters HDL if the 15 does not work

It should not be that difficult, unless some terrain creation parameters have been modified. Just wondering...

That's what I usually do as well, there is some walls like the ones I used in my Shosaloza that are best for 14 meters, others like this ones for 15 meters. It's just a matter of trying different configutations. ;)

Ok ... and what is this HDL ... Hole Digging Lots ... and where do I get the different variants please.

You can find them here (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=3599), and after install them, they can be found in the transport menu, other transports.

Edit: The file also hasa small tutorial on what to do with them. ;)

Just make sure your existing terrain is flat for three-tile wide section. Then it should work flawlessly.

I guess I don't understand the technical aspects to why this piece is shaded differently than the others... is it because it passes under the bridge? Or is it because it is plopped on a 1x1 lot, but extends outward over a 2x1 area? And is it a lot or a prop that is creating the actual texture?

It is a prop that is creating the actual texture.

Just a note that should be obvious I suppose... When preparing sunken (or raised either for that matter) you must make perfectly flat the WHOLE STRETCH of where you plan to lay the transport.. naturally if you start at say 15m depth, then go to terrain that is 2m higher, then the trench will be 17, not 15.. :)

Post by: SC4BOY on December 01, 2007, 07:27:09 AM
Well I don't know where the "right place" is but I see an issue like this already.. soooo

I'm having this problem: (each of the ditches are different "standard" depths)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg517.imageshack.us%2Fimg517%2F8224%2Fjeronitextureproblemzn3.jpg&hash=af270d36a5c2e4b8a2e84a2f89db3257bfbcb9a3)

The "concrete slope" has turned transparent it seems. I assume this works for most people since I haven't seen it mentioned. What have I done wrong? The other pieces of this set seems to work fine.

to me it looks like ur missing the actual textures.dat file.

try this file here:

http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=116

this may have the file u need. i had this exact same problem on the 24th, and this file fixed it.

EDIT: the file name u need may be the "AA01 jeronij texturas muro autopista modernov2.dat" file, which is included in the file link above.
