Title: Ending a runway over sea
Post by: Jonathan on May 13, 2009, 12:29:11 PM
Not sure if this type of post goes here?
Anyway how would you end a runway that is extended into the sea (like the Gibraltar runway (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=36.153618,-5.3514272&z=16&t=h&hl=en)) using the RMIP pieces from the STEX? I couldn't find a piece that just ended only one with a taxiway to the side (how do the planes get back to 'land' anyway)?

EDIT: I know that you need to extend the land over the sea, just not how the marking would work, and what pieces to use?

Is this what you expected to achieve, Jonathan?

If yes, look into the RMIP-2 vol. 1. Both Exit Taxiways at the Threshold and Displaced Thresold lots are included, right at the top of menu. Unfortunatelly you can't put any small Blast Pad, unless you use Lot Editor.

Kind of, just hoping that I could have the extended land almost as thin as the runway (almost identical to Gibraltar)

You can ommit 2-3 tiles of grass on both sides (the seawalls could start right to the runway / taxiway), but you can't make the gap between the runway and taxiway. Take a look at the Google Maps - there is some area of concrete (asphalt?) on both sides of the runway - I'm not sure if it is used as taxiway (no proper markings).

A bit of lot editing and you can achieve something like this (PM me for the textures ;) ):

So I can't have the extended land 2 or 4 tiles wide?

2 tiles for runway and two tiles for plopping the seawalls, if you want to. No taxiway, of course, and the texture on both sides of the runway depends on the seawall design. So you can fit your 4 tiles ;).

Well the walls I'd use go on the sea so 2 tiles wide I want. But how do i end the runway, having it just end with no markings would look right: basically what piece do I put here:

Also would you say the length of the runway is a bit long?

You need to end the runway at least with the threshold with the threshold bar. I'm affraid there isn't such lot, you have to make a new one. The lenght depends on your preferences, in fact - the minimum lenght for big fellowa is about 80 tiles. All you should take care are the distances between the markings and perhaps you should add another touchdown zoe markings in case of exceeding certain lenghts. Everything is very well described by Voltaire in the readme of RMIP-2 vol. 1.
