Title: Ryan's Highway Sign Workshop
Post by: Ryan B. on May 17, 2009, 07:43:51 PM
Ryan's Highway Sign Workshop

Request Queue:  OPEN

That's right, folks - I'm taking requests for highway signs once again!  Here are a couple of examples of signs I will be doing:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg4.imageshack.us%2Fimg4%2F715%2Fgoldenhilljan2001240803z.png&hash=d8c9a77fba2d76af3aab195b503259ecb9125e0b)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg11.imageshack.us%2Fimg11%2F61%2Fgoldenhilljan2001240803.png&hash=08e50a906a25042911586b9806585323d8ad7a39)

Sign Features:

Fully compliant with American traffic sign standards
Realistic & up-to-date fonts, colors & route markers
Custom-fit to RHW lane widths
Fully Rendered in High Definition

The request line is currently OPEN.

REQUEST RULES:

1)  Please keep the number of signs requested to less than 10.
2)  I am only doing "big green sign" (BGS) assemblies as shown above - no requests for "reassurance" route markers, please.
3)  Please try to give me a picture of what you would like me to create for you.  As much as I'd like to think, I'm not a mind-reader.
3A)  These signs will be for RHW highways only - please let me know what type of lane setup you wish me to work with.
4)  No requests for European or Pacific signs, please.  I'm sticking with American (and possibly Canadian) signs - I don't want to infringe on Maarten's territory.
5)  All requests will be done in a reasonable amount of time.  If I am unable to complete a request, I will contact you as soon as I figure that out.

Let me have 'em, folks!  Thanks very much!

I like these models! It's fine you make US and Canada styled signs, because I'm not an expert in American styled signs, I'll stick to European ones. I wish you success!

Best,
Maarten

Excellent!  I've had some "BGS" requests in my mind for a while.  Perhaps they might interest you.

What do you make of these?

This sign type could be used for RHW type A,B, or even C ramps:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg526.imageshack.us%2Fimg526%2F2915%2F401cl184eastapr09lg.jpg&hash=ab072ae2651e814e0416ba14339815628b66ed8e)

Whereas this can be used for a split, such as the RHW-8/dual RHW-4 split:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg299.imageshack.us%2Fimg299%2F5985%2F401cl184westtelelg.jpg&hash=54bb7205962412dfcaa4331ecc28ca1e1b767644)

Lastly a sign like this is used when more than one lane exits the highway.  This can be used for a RHW-6S/dual RHW-4 split:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg299.imageshack.us%2Fimg299%2F6275%2F401dv2795west.jpg&hash=f790f2e205366b06676bb5951b695a0445b5d1e1)

Yes, they are Canadian signs.  You don't have to worry about the French if you don't want to or the "lane ends" icon.

Anyways good luck on your sign development!  I'll be keeping a lookout here.

rusummer1:  Thank you for posting pictures!  However, I do need to know what type of RHW lane setup you will be using these signs on.

Haljackey:  I don't have a problem doing the French on those, unless we start getting into the French language characters!   :P  Naw, I think I can find those.  For the arrows & lane reduction symbols, is it all right if I use the American-style ones?

Totally neat concept. I checked out OC upon recommendation, and will post some sort of comment there (hopefully) soon. Meanwhile, all I can say is if you get around to doing reassurance markers, let me know! :D In fact, I was going to ask if US 20 goes through OC or not, because it goes through Ashtabula, and that would be a neat sign to have ... among, oh about a dozen others! ;) Seriously, love your signage. Do you also have the new Clearview font? I'm not a fan of it, but it's the way signs are going (at least here in Illinois).

Later ...
Don

also will you be able to make one that is generic too, that can be used for any city.

Thank You!

Not to add more to your slate Ryan, but I think what Texdal meant about generic were signs like this: (in upper case) "left lane ends", "right lane ends",  "tunnel turn on headlights", "trucks use 2 left lanes", "beware of aggressive drivers", "no phone use and driving", "slow moving traffic ahead", "right 2 lanes exit only", "signal ahead", and "reduced speed ahead". I think those don't need pictures as they are just words, and some of those regularity signs are in white, while the cautionary ones are in yellow.

Wow, interest certainly has sparked.  Thanks, folks!

texdal:  Sure, I can give those a shot.

J-Dub:  I will not be doing those types of signs at this time.  Maybe later, but not now.

Pat:  No idea why they're not showing.
