I just borrow FrankU's picture:

At the "heavy rail X diagonal raised heavy rail" and "diagonal heavy rail X raised heavy rail" preces,
they always jump up/down to the other rail......
is it a bug or ......()what() ()what()?
It is indeed a bug, apparently, the game only looks at the height of paths to determine where the traffic should be, but no to see if the trains can actually jump from path to path (as far as the traffic simulator is concerned, all paths are at ground level), meaning that the train thinks it can go right at that turn, which it of course can't.
Greetings,
Koror
I have the same problem in one of my cities where I use a lot of heavy rail going under other heavy rail. I fixed it my adding a station to the section where the trains where skipping, and that seems to have helped.
Notice that this happens only when the crossings aren't orthogonal, because when there's a diagonal crossing, the paths are actually identical (except for height) for one square. So a workaround is to make such crossings perpendicular.
I wonder what happens if the path numbers are changed, or if they are already?
Absolutely nothing
