Hello and welcome to Hayden Sound. Climate is similar that of the Pacific Northwest, Whidbey Island in particular. The rainy season runs from October to April/May. Temperature during the day ranges from 40-60 during the rainy season and 60-80 during the summer. The grass becomes a fire hazard during the summer as well.

This is Verdant Island with Jade Mountain. Previous exploration parties have found massive deposits of jades and other precious stones and ores underground. Some veins are deep underground while others are close to the surface.

This picture was taken around January 2nd. The forests on Jade Mountain consist of douglas fir, western red cedar, ponderosa pine, junipers, Maxiod pines, and possibly some redwoods and pinyons in the higher elevations. The lower portions of the slopes contain a mix of these trees with shore pines and oak, elm, and maple forests. The lowlands are shore pine and oak, elm, and maple forests.

Above a certain elevation, the snow stays on the ground during the entire year. Here, you can see a better view of the trees and wildlife.

This is a better view of the northwestern slopes of Jade Mountain. There are also some sections of exposed granite rock off to the left of the picture, weathered by the elements.
The following pics show some of the wildlife that is roaming around the region:

Now, let's go to the town of Independence....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg215.imageshack.us%2Fimg215%2F1429%2Ffirstfireworksdz8.jpg&hash=e32c46b026090812728c7cd50a04c43dfafa11c6)
Starting out with a bang.....

I, Mayor Jan Haskins, have begun setting up Independence's zoning. I have contracted Hardun Industries to provide power with their clean coal plant. Hardun Industries is managed by SimGoober.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg206.imageshack.us%2Fimg206%2F4119%2Flayoutrandcxm2.jpg&hash=d93bc0372f876c17ebd45dbba80f716fe8c83aab)
West of the industrial Estate, I set up the zones for residential and commercial development.

To help fund the city and prevent early debt, a series of billboards have been setup and advertising space sold to companies wanting to advertise. It seems that most of the advertising spaces have been bought by DEViant Desires and Simply Pets.
The power plant is getting its first shipments of coal:

Due to the power plant, several middle class families have moved in.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg218.imageshack.us%2Fimg218%2F5990%2Fdistressedmiddleclasssm5.jpg&hash=127d241c0d6e07a49ce54293535a648a0bb1de1f)
A few months later, the middle class doesn't seem to be doing very well. A census reveals that the houses are only containing 1-2 people each.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F2500%2Ftwocoffeeshopsby4.jpg&hash=a52d2a34674f115191e458c8ca0331f7f7c3bd22)
The first two businesses are coffee shops, Cafe Joe and Starbucks Coffee. Next door to the Starbucks, a customer is having a fight with an employee of BB's Grease Pit. Someone is getting a trip out to the water today ::)

A few months later, a Krispy Kremes and a pawn shop open up. Odd, there's no cop cars around.... ()what()

Beware of the coffee shop at night. The police setup a speed trap at night to catch the workers speeding home. You better hope SimCop and Dan are so busy with Krispy Kremes that they sent out one of their trainees to do the speed trap....

Here is an overview of downtown Independence. So far, I am pleased with how Independence is turning out.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F5993%2Findustrialcrimeareajv9.jpg&hash=837a0e9671f29f519b550d2cf0318a95f2b1f564)
Just the other day, I received reports that there is crime occuring in the industrial estate. Reports of a male flasher have been made, and a task force of citizens is looking into the matter. Wouldn't have anything to do with SimGoober's fame, would it?
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg226.imageshack.us%2Fimg226%2F2152%2Ftruckcarnageiu2.jpg&hash=2c77eeef9ef8f83ff524cbb7795e03f4a58c04dc)
I'm a little worried about where a worker has parked his truck. The scene looks like something from an industrial demolition derby....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg205.imageshack.us%2Fimg205%2F6112%2Fhaydenshutgd2.jpg&hash=b4c2d48b4c40228d2aae22f4ad5956d55e0f22bd)
I think I have found where Pegasus is living in Independence. If this what he really lives in, we really need to treat him better....
-Jan
A very nice start. There is a very practical story behind the layout, and the city is establishing itself quite nicely. the pictures are very well suited to their captions and work very well in showcasing the city. I'll look forward to more. One question I have though, is where the name Jan Haskins came from... is it invented or is it the name of someone you know? (I ask only because I participate in a "Mock Trial" program and our case this year (fictional) featured two names: Jan Adams and Dana Haskins). Good work. Keep it up.
Jan i really love how Indepandece is turning out myself and i do plan to
come again and give my business some more. - pat
Hey Threestooges where are you from? just ?? I was wondering cause you where talking about Mock Trial and with that i know my wife's school just went down to Madison WI and actuly lost their Trial this year for the first time.
hehe. I really like it! $%Grinno$%
It definately has that small town feel I know you're working to acheive. And it reminds me quite a bit of Washington as well. Great work! :P
I'm glad you folks like the storyline so far. I've added another installment which is just below the replies
@ThreeStooges: Jan Haskins is a person that I know very well, me.
@Pat: I look forward to your future visits.
@Gecko: I've lived in small towns and rural areas most of my life, so I'm replicating what I have experienced. Some farming will appear later on as well. Where in Washington are you from?
I have been keeping Independence running for about 13-14 years now. Let's have a look at how I have been doing....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg205.imageshack.us%2Fimg205%2F5162%2Fhouseofworshipug9.jpg&hash=32d5443ae93910cab753b41d818f50fc998027ed)
I have finally met the requirements to build a House of Worship in Independence. I have constructed it just behind the western most row of houses to keep the traffic noise down. West of here is just woodlands and meadows (God Mode trees with open spaces between them).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg205.imageshack.us%2Fimg205%2F8379%2Findependencecemeteryjh2.jpg&hash=1c52a71bc3227cd8ae488b9e09c6399a45e1b1f6)
Across the street, a formal cemetery has finished construction. There were a series of stones as headstones on the site before construction began. The dearly departed were carefully removed and then reburied after the construction was finished. They have also been given marble headstones instead of plain stones.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg207.imageshack.us%2Fimg207%2F2457%2Fhawkflyingsj0.jpg&hash=a993654bca5120e47cf8abaa3d89ab85f40bc358)
As I was driving into the commercial district, I noticed a hawk flying overhead. I managed to get a few pictures before it soared away. (My personal car is the pale yellow one at the top of the pic. I don't have a limo yet.)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg205.imageshack.us%2Fimg205%2F903%2Fdaylightzombiessj0.jpg&hash=d492a16b18a1f9feab200e22cb8ab1233d546f70)
A few hours later, I was traveling to check on the construction of my mansion. I saw a gathering of ghosts and zombies around the Independence Cemetery in broad daylight! Fortunately, they stayed within the walls of the cemetery. I have launched an investigation to determine if this was the work of the evil Dr. Vu.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg224.imageshack.us%2Fimg224%2F8773%2Fmayorshouseconstructionwh0.jpg&hash=91b847d702b18bef6109d00f5cac4a2e1eaf57e8)
Here is the plot that I am having my mansion constructed on. It will be a couple more years before I can move in.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg224.imageshack.us%2Fimg224%2F5140%2Fmiddleclassimprovementml0.jpg&hash=f4ddfe163de5339527acbbad910593a41e0a930b)
You remember the distressed looking middle class homes from earlier? Well, the middle class is doing better these days. More jobs middle class jobs have come to Independence, so more middle class are moving in. The latest census of the middle class shows the houses at or near full capacity. I see a building boom coming....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg232.imageshack.us%2Fimg232%2F9452%2Ffirstfacilitiesvh1.jpg&hash=1415a3dda7bbb7f0e7e9125d1794b01b6e1cbd83)
Independence has finished construction of its first education and medical facilities. A chapter of the SimNation Red Cross runs the Independence Red Cross Clinic and the Joesocwork Education Foundation is managing the Independence Elementary. The funding for both comes straight from the town treasury.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg232.imageshack.us%2Fimg232%2F5641%2Ffirstdineroq0.jpg&hash=af12b5c8ce63520fc100c035d8ee7c57e4be5bad)
Dolomite's Diner recently opened off of Main Street. The parallel service street is only temporary. Once enough traffic is travelling down Main Street, the road will become an avenue.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg232.imageshack.us%2Fimg232%2F9474%2Ffishandchipsvj8.jpg&hash=9fa905f25bc3a487f0035f957644d562d05ca604)
The Flying Marlin Fish & Chips Restaurant has opened next door to the diner. They get their catch from the waters surrounding Verdant Island. It takes them a day or two to return with their catch once they head out to go get it. The surrounding townships do not have any development yet, which means no roads to the water. They fishermen have a series of modified cargo trucks that are designed to travel off-road.

There is a problem with low land value on the east (right) side of Main Street. I currently gathering information from the store owners and the public to determine why the land value is low.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg215.imageshack.us%2Fimg215%2F3973%2Fcottonwooddiscoverymy2.jpg&hash=5e20483f58da8208f22f84ee4cdadbb880d368d0)
On the northern slopes of Jade Mountain, a small grove of cottonwood trees has been discovered. They are not found anywhere else withing this township. The area they are found in is now marked as a nature preserve.

Here is an updated overview of Independence, looking to the northwest. I have no idea why some of the buildings designed by RP2005 glow at night in the neighborhood. The glow does appear to be rather unearthly at times....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg231.imageshack.us%2Fimg231%2F3696%2Fnewexapansiondirectionyf1.jpg&hash=201b0f668248dedc6f136db88ce29b35accf88ee)
This is an overview of the proposed expansion of Independence. The orange area is where Hardun Industries have located a coal deposit, which they wish to mine. This location is too close to the newly discovered cottonwoods, so alternative sites are being explored/researched. The green area is where a proposed road is planned to go, with room for future expansion to upgrade the road to an avenue or highway.

Behind my newly finished mansion, I have opened a small portion of land for development. The center of the loop contains a small park and another park is between the rows of houses and the House of Worship.
Now for some of the other businesses in Independence:

Traffic is heavy along the southern road, but the businesses like it that way.The following pic shows three businesses taking advantage of the situation. Deadwoods Designs Inc. bought out the Flying Marlin Fish & Chips Restaurant to build two gas stations and a small store. Shortly afterwards, the price of gas dropped significantly. Gas was being imported by truck for most of the town's lifetime.

This message popped up before I saved and quit the other day. I'm trying to figure out how often it appears....
-Jan
This is wonderful! &apls A Swamper journal should really be worth following.
hello Swamper. or Jan, if i may call you that. its nice to see you start a Mayor's Diary here. probably one of the best places to showcase your work. i love your automatas. sorry was going off tangent a bit there. anyway, Independence seems to be having a running start. those houses the message is talking about, are they the middle class homes that you mentioned? do you have a link to them? :P i'm enjoying the small town feel to it. some other questions at the top of my head are, how small do you plan for it to be? or do you plan to grow it into something huge? and the region, how big is it? is the island the whole region already or is there more to it? hope im not being too pesky. $%Grinno$% hoping to see more development. see you around
&apls Great CJ . I really enjoy the soty of it. The zombies , the derby... veery fun and creative. Thanks for sharing.
Jan (if I may call you that),
I guess it is a coincidence (unless you happen to know people in mock trial) but I digress again. Another great update. The little details like the hawk, zombies and contruction site for the mayor's house are what adds a nice touch of detail/color. I believe that this MD is one that will go far. Have fun with it (as you seem to be doing already).
-Matt (threestooges)
-pat: I am in college in Los Angeles (Loyola Marymount University in particular). We didn't knock your wife's school's team out of the running though (we didn't get that far...but then it's only our 4th year) but I'm sorry to hear about their loss. It's a load of work but it is fun.
Hi, Jan!
Two really well-conceived and executed posts. There's a wealth of stuff you've done here- it's apparent you've got a fairly-well fleshed out (oops- forgot about the zombies) back story. I'm headed back to look some more as quick as I hit the post button.
Thanks for sharing this MD with us.
Good luck!
David
p.s.: Oh, you could use some stars here, too. About five sounds right to me.
@Emilin: Thanks. I'll look forward to your future visits.
@Zniehadajet: You may call me Jan, or anything you want as long as you don't call me too late for dinner :D. The RLS houses indicated by the message are from SimGoober's collection of houses. The bright-colored middle class homes mentioned earlier in this MD were made by Debussyman. They are on the STEX: http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=13040 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=13040). The other middle class homes in that area are CSX Vishoeks made by Colyn. I don't know if they have been moved to the LEX yet.
This Island is only one part of the region. There's more to the region, but it is all blank (undeveloped) right now. As for plans for Independence and the surrounding areas, you're just going to have to wait and see ;)
@Kim: Thanks for your comments. The worker's truck wasn't damaged, but I did worry about where they parked it.
@Three Stooges: I have been having fun with it so far. I don't do much touching up of my images. They are as they were taken. I only tweak the images if they are night shots or if I need weather effects. As the MD progresses, you will see more edits to the images, but you will have to look closely (Hint: vehicles are involved).
@David: I'm glad you think my storyline is well written. I second guess myself a lot of the time, so I wasn't sure how the storyline would pan out. Be careful with ratings and such because I can do a few things now with my status ;)
@All: Feel free to talk amongst yourselves from time to time. Consider this like a meeting place, where I occassionally pop in to share a bit more about my region. However, don't get carried away with the "off-topic" discussions.
Welcome back to Independence. While you were gone, I've made way for farms to develop near the town.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg215.imageshack.us%2Fimg215%2F6921%2Findependencefarmsoverviewsr5.jpg&hash=3182377ac345cb787b7df3aa56edaf01a574972a)
Here are the starter farms that I did testing with. These were farms were the only ones I allowed to start with so I could make changes to the township policies to have them thrive. I've also setup housing for workers. Many workers from outside of Independence also work on these farms.
Under a contract with Goober Enterprises and Eagle Inc., lead by Niagarian Eagle, several mobile homes were brought. Eagle's brand name of mobile homes are called "Rollerhomes". This brand of mobile home is a collection of narrow trailers and come in a variety of colors with names like "Hollywood" and "Marshfield".
New technologies involving recycled plants and other organics are being tested as power and heat sources for these homes. Recycling is encouraged in this small community and I'm starting to implement a recycling program across the entire township. I'm hoping to attract some high-tech industries in the future.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg231.imageshack.us%2Fimg231%2F8850%2Fcsxforestryoldtobacciai2.jpg&hash=dd98d8787c5d25bff42de183b866c8a51d72f68a)
One of the two starter farms is based off of an old Southern USA farm house. This former tobacco farm is growing a small forest of Oakus Vlakhus oak trees. I'm currently working to allow tobacco farms in the area. SimNation currently has a ban on tobacco plantations.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg63.imageshack.us%2Fimg63%2F1592%2Fcsxforestrylillymaeeh3.jpg&hash=ebf5416ddb75f8f7e2f62dee31126aa8d095c883)
The other starter farm is Lilly Mae's Nature Reserve. The "fields" are fynbos, areas of nature preserve that are native to South Africa. These areas are covered with a variety of grasses and scrubs with a few trees. The brick work and fencing was installed by CycleDogg Designs and with the help of volunteers from Independence.
The above two farms were developed under a partnership with CSX. They are part of CSX's Forestry program of farming. Instead of cultivating crops that are removed each year, woodlands are being cultivated, which return nutrients to the earth. These farms also do quite well in areas that are hilly, with good surface drainage. They also look very nice against the existing forests. I'm looking forward to developing more of these types of farms.

In the Mayoral Estates area, a new park has been constructed in the middle of the loop. It features a large gazebo, pond with a fountain, and wildflowers. Flowers were provided by Ann Marie, after being grown under her watchful eye on her farm. Her farm is in another nearby township. The gazebo was constructed from plans used on the Barber Farm. Goober Enterprises provided the plans for the pond, which LandShapers, a local landscaping company, constructed. Goober Enterprises also provided the crepe mrytle trees. Lighting was installed by Pegadyne Industries. CycleDogg Designs provided the grass that was planted across the entire site. I'm quite pleased with the workmanship of the entire project. I even spend some of my evenings in this new park.
Several new houses have appeared across Independence. The following pictures are ones that I took of the outstanding ones:

Dolphin66's new vacation home in Independence. Looks like something out of a fairy tale....

A rustic mountain lodge built by OnlyPlace4. All the above houses belong to middle class citizens.
Downtown Independence has grown a slightly since your last visit. At the corner of Main Street and Commercial Avenue, some walking paths were laid down with some large trees. I have been approached many times over the years for "adding more parks to the city". So complying with my citizens' requests, I have purchased a new park for downtown Independence.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg234.imageshack.us%2Fimg234%2F2360%2Fcsxtreeskw7.jpg&hash=cdd991ddd656cc6bc764dd382e778cdd49e39f86)
CSX financed the entire project and the pavers on the paths were designed by Geoffhaw's Texture Studio. The trees were created and grown at CSX's GM Labs. You should have seen the trucks that brought in the full size trees! Each truck was about 10 meters wide with the tree branches hanging out of the trucks. Each truck also had its own crane to move the trees into the prepared holes that were dug for each one. The entire area was closed to road traffic while the trees were brought in. The southern road to the eastern industrial park was quite congested for that time period.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F3581%2Fstarbucksandmorese6.jpg&hash=4c23fd875689bb1ff2698ebc87207be3325d7223)
In the southern part of the commerical district, I laid out new light density commercial zones and this is one of several businesses that opened up shop. Yes, another Starbucks. And a general store opened up on site as well. Starbuck's manager for the previous one is moving to this new location. She told me she'd rather have her business "where the people are". Most of the commuters use Aurora Drive, the southern road which goes to the eastern industrial park. She's now looking for some one to buy the old location.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg234.imageshack.us%2Fimg234%2F90%2Frhaccidentdc1.jpg&hash=cd1b726f95342590a06d3358a9655cd1399a8f3b)
However, I am now starting to see the problems the Aurora Drive is beginning to create. This accident occurred during the tree planting at Main Street and Commercial Avenue's new parks. I'm now looking at ways to ease the traffic congestion. A bus company is looking for a place to setup shop here in the area, so this might be the ticket to solve Independence's traffic problems. Now to find places to install the bus stops and I think I will build the first one at this intersection.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg217.imageshack.us%2Fimg217%2F9351%2Findependencefarmsfalloverviewmx4.jpg&hash=1565054b76a16218cd1fee014f9ad32c1760d12a)
A few new farms have also been developed during the few months after the first ones. Another Southern USA-styled farm house was built next to the first one. The fields surrounding this one are growing Cottonwoods. You can clearly see them in this fall farming overview picture I took. The other new farm is Major Jolly's Ponderosa Tree Farm. Here is a closer look at his farm house:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F8030%2Fcsxforestrymajorjollyeq2.jpg&hash=98156e455e64cfcc8202d9300f7a2366957fe455)
The farm house was constructed from plans provided CSX's Housing Department. So was Lilly Mae's farm house. Both have thatched roofs and are of house designs that are common in South Africa.
Do feel free to drop by and chat with me, but don't look for me at the Mayoral Mansion. I spend most of my time outside, around Independence while taking care of business at the personal level. I'll leave you with this nice picture of the sun setting over Independence's farmland in the summer:

I wouldn't expect anything less than a few vehicles here and there from someone dubbed "BSC grease monkey" (your work is quite nice). The progression seems nice, and the bus network should yield some interesting results, but in the same shot of the crash, I noticed (in the top middle) that there may be a bit of garbage trouble in town as well. The farms are great, the parks are good and the whole city (outskirts and all) are developing nicely. I don;t blame you for spending so much time out of the office. If I lived there, I would do the same.
that's what i like about smaller communities. you get to know more people on a personal level. love the update, Jan! we're having pizza and burgers for dinner... you taking the next flight in? lol. would love to see Hayden Sound unfold :P see you!
@Three Stooges: I stuck that line of text in via my profile section until I can get a custom member label. Most of the non-Maxis traffic vehicles in my game are Mike Seith's work. I have only done freight traffic and emergency vehicles, since no one was working in those areas. The large pile of garbage you saw in that one picture is a result of that particular household's spring cleaning.
@Heinz: I'm glad you like this MD so far. After this update, I'll be showing a new township....
Independence has now reached the age of 31 years. The town doesn't have any budget problems and the citizens are still quite happy. The town has grown very little these last few years, so I am starting to lay groundwork for a neighboring township to the east. First, let's look at the latest developments in Independence....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg125.imageshack.us%2Fimg125%2F2883%2Fsgtownebank2ac.jpg&hash=216c5d9e958334ba3542d3bd45aa047fa7b49c3a)
3 years ago, Independence finished construction of its first bank. Towne Bank was constructed by SimGoober of Goober Enterprises. The bank is constructed after a real world bank. The bank is also connected to SimNation so you can retrieve your money anywhere in the SimUniverse.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg212.imageshack.us%2Fimg212%2F5519%2Ftomahawktradingpost0yg.jpg&hash=559e337dcb28d6fc349e879972437d75d92838e7)
Another MTP business has opened up shop in Independence. Tomahawk Trading Company has opened a trading post on the former site of Red's Motel. Next door, is "Just Accordians" which deals in a variety of musical instruments, including accordians. The shop owner is usually seen driving a Honda Accord.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg125.imageshack.us%2Fimg125%2F5061%2Fnexiselectronics1pe.jpg&hash=ca705f808faefa130d9d4b37b08146f8fec2748e)
Just down the road from Towne Bank to the south, Nexis Electronics Inc. has opened a new computer store two years ago. This shop also does computer repairs for the community. I'm currently looking at buying parts from here to upgrade my computer at my mansion. The Nexis Company is headed by Mr. Bison who runs numerous enterprises and companies. More about Nexis Electronics background can found in his CJ "Nexis of Genesis".
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg462.imageshack.us%2Fimg462%2F7862%2Ftreedseasonalplaza0km.jpg&hash=2d5851f074de0e500c6c7b4f4ca478d223a47633)
One of the park sections containing the huge CSX Trees has been removed to make room for future expansion of Commerical Avenue. In its place, a plaza was built. After Thanksgiving Day, a Christmas Tree is setup in the plaza. The tree was donated by the Rockefeller Family Foundation. I held a ceremony on its first day after construction was finished.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg462.imageshack.us%2Fimg462%2F8923%2Fnewpowerconnection9pd.jpg&hash=f6246056abe962846a5af332ad7c2756e7a75885)
A new section of power lines has been built off of the Hardun Clean Coal Power Plant. These lines will provide power to the new township. The plant is currently running at 9-11% of total capacity.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg462.imageshack.us%2Fimg462%2F2711%2Fjmcellmart1sd.jpg&hash=b5a2598959aafb4c3bf9efe38bf0917d67407a43)
JMyers Inc. built a new cellphone shop shortly after Nexis Electronics opened their store. This store is across the road from the electronics store. The phones provided by this shop connect to satellites in orbit above Hayden Sound. I'm reviewing plans to construct cell towers for cellphone use, as bad weather can disrupt the signal between the satellite and the phones.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg212.imageshack.us%2Fimg212%2F6257%2Fnewpegmtpcafe5pq.jpg&hash=8ad163029d3b1d7e3efd714b162e2f013b529e10)
The Fairweather Family Court was sadly torn down last year. It was a nice family motel that many sims enjoyed using. In its place, two new establishments were constructed. On the left is a MTP-styled cafe and on the right is a tapas bar. The cafe was built using plans provided by Pegadyne Industries from their MTP line of productions. BRT Designs, lead by Barby and Ripptide, designed and built the tapas bar. Ripptide designed it in a Spanish-style building and Barby oversaw the workers constructing the building and the landscaping of the lot.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg126.imageshack.us%2Fimg126%2F2016%2Ftapasparty7ch.jpg&hash=664a2ea0eba64f4a0682bae72b6f390903f9bb41)
At night, the crowds literally spill out into the street. Seen here is a crowd that momentarily stopped traffic on Main Street. The owners of the establishment have been asked to keep the crowds orderly or they will be fined.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg126.imageshack.us%2Fimg126%2F6159%2Foverviewupdate6nq.th.jpg&hash=3e54a747d3b8b8dea4746badbbece08a690c5b5e) (http://img126.imageshack.us/my.php?image=overviewupdate6nq.jpg)
Here's a large overview of Independence. The roadways seen cutting across the township are part of the Verdant Island Highway System. The highway system also contains the Jade Mountain Loop Highway. One corner of the loop is the 4-way intersection out in the countryside, near the farmland. The highway system won't be completed for many years, but the investment will hopefully be worth it.
I'll leave you with these three overviews of the new township to the east, Coastal Heights:

See you in Coastal Heights....

Jan wow, wonderful work Indepandence is turing out to be what stunning detail and story you have,
keep up the hard work and i for sure will be back in town soon - pat
Very interesting developement and storyline.....quite enthralling actually, will be keeping a close eye (the right one) one it.
Hello, Swamper77! Just caught with all the updates, and I must say that I am quite impressed. I love the backstory and Independence is looking fantastic. Keep up the good work!
I like the small town idea. Will be looking forward to the next update. ;D
Very nice rural feeling. A lot of small houses that I haven't seen before too. Good job!
Very nice MD. The litteral start of the city and seeing it grow is nice for a change. I like that.
I also like the explaination of the various industries, you make ugly CS$ look great!
LOL: "Next door, is "Just Accordians" which deals in a variety of musical instruments, including accordians. The shop owner is usually seen driving a Honda Accord."
Keep up this great work Jan.
Nik-Nik
WELCOME TO PAGE 2!!!!!! &apls
wonderful region pictures and fantastic development! &apls
@Pat: If I need a fire marshall in the future, you will be my first pick ;D
@Old Rogue: It's nice to see a new visitor to my region. Don't worry about keeping an eye on this MD, it will be here when you get back :)
@Thundercrack: I hope it didn't take you too long to catch up ;) Today, you can have a look at the start of the Coastal Heights township.
@Elektra: Thanks, and the next update is here, below these replies.
@Emilin: Welcome back! I have quite a few houses from all the custom content I have installed. If you are interested in any particular one(s), just let me know and I will track down their source.
@Nik-Nik: I agree with your statement about the start of a city. There are very few CJ's/MD's that follow cities from their very beginnings. I'm looking forward to seeing you around here.
@Bat: Thanks.
Last time, I showed previews of the next township called Coastal Heights. The name is only for this section of the island. Currently,I am developing a small town called Pinewood in this new township. Let's have a closer look:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg65.imageshack.us%2Fimg65%2F3015%2Fnewdevelopmentfy1.jpg&hash=8c59428f508ecfe9f5410f383f4e2131f2609246)
Street layout for the first housing of Pinewood. Pine Way is the main road into this neighborhood. The two cross streets are Maple Lane (closest to you) and Elm Street. This area used to be a grove of Oak, Maple, and Elm Forest with a mix of Shore Pines. In the hills to the south, there are many more types of Cycledoggian tree species. We're currently looking north.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg65.imageshack.us%2Fimg65%2F7299%2Fnewconstructiontl2.jpg&hash=ffd0da2f0e97f1a65e225f06e1132b12debfce2c)
New homes under construction. Most of the homes are modular homes with a few mobile homes being built onsite. Debussyman, Jen_P, and SimGoober are overseeing construction of the new homes.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F9932%2Fnewhousesni9.jpg&hash=99c4e8c19c30813da0816eb6ce22c446f47c8a99)
The air was rather still for a few days after construction started. I waited until the dust cleared before I took this picture. During those still days, the area had a tan "fog" hovering over this area.
Let's take a closer look at some of the new houses:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg410.imageshack.us%2Fimg410%2F1758%2Fdbyhousessd3.jpg&hash=9c8986f3568e59890d0a1b673e13a7c60ccbf12a)
Debussyman's new Spanish/Latin American homes. How his crews build these houses from inside of 1 square meter, I don't know.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F9979%2Fjpbluedecomw1.jpg&hash=5490abbb66338622b262c663e96f89bd1057b87f)
One of Jen_P's Art Deco houses. This house sits at the end of Pine Way, at the intersection of Pine Way and Maple Lane.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F586%2Fcommunityplotnx5.jpg&hash=654b47306aa8fadd36f0e094cea9737a610ca766)
Onlyplace4 has constructed several of these community plots across the neighborhood. I'm working with some firms to have a better community plot designed and to have a place to dump various yard wastes and garbage.
To pay for the power that is purchased from Independence and other maintenance costs, I have allowed two billboards to be installed near Pinewood:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg79.imageshack.us%2Fimg79%2F944%2Fbillboardcurvewf2.jpg&hash=30ffae5211e8e07db90a10c682c22b57b7456709)
"Simply Pets", Simgoober's real-world business. Logo was designed by Gascooker. (And yes, the web address is real)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg410.imageshack.us%2Fimg410%2F4443%2Fbillboardcornerss1.jpg&hash=6dba94b4bc7d8a8663ed4a9d143fc39903273c34)
A fitting billboard to have installed near a busy roadway. This ad was provided by SimCop from here at PEG's site. It was his sig pic here in PEG's forums.
Notice the line of cars. The main roadway has been widened from a street to a road, after this picture was taken. The main roadway is Industrial Drive up to this intersection. Heading east (top of the picture), it is un-named until the bend that leads to the neighborhood. At the curve in the previous picture, it becomes Pine Way. The intersecting street in this picture is Pinesdale Road, which connects to the stub of the Inter-Island Highway that comes in from the south (a ways off to the right of this picture).
During the evening commute, I witnessed the start of the British Invasion of Pinewood:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg65.imageshack.us%2Fimg65%2F5923%2Fminitwinspm8.jpg&hash=f4848026dffe1a592fba19b7e16793ef6c4a84a3)
This picture was taken on Pine Way, at the edge of the neighborhood. (looking northwards)
As the area develops, I will probably add some zoning for stores/small offices. I'm trying to hold off on zoning industrial in this township, as I don't want to spoil the scenery too much. I may add some farms near the coast, but that will probably be the only industrial development I will allow.
I look forward to meeting with you again.
-Jan
Woah great CJ! I was just browsing around, thought i would stop by ;D btw, that's a very interesting road mod you have..dirt in unzoned and sidewalks in developed areas? very cool.
i feel so calm just following your cj.. nothing too much. $%Grinno$% i get the feel of every nook and cranny of your towns that i can almost hear the mixer trucks and construction workers toiling away. ()stsfd() with our Harbor Master emilin having me hooked into ports and your new towns being on an island, will i hear the airhorns of ships in a new harbor, too? :P
It didn't take too long to catch up, and it was definitely worth it! Pinwood is looking good so far, too. I love the Latin American houses. Keep up the good work!
More interesting development around here, I see.
Since you opened for requests... the house I am most interested in and haven't seen before would be this one:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg231.imageshack.us%2Fimg231%2F8850%2Fcsxforestryoldtobacciai2.jpg&hash=dd98d8787c5d25bff42de183b866c8a51d72f68a)
This is such a nice MD Jan, I really like the amount of detail you are putting into your story and in planning and preparing this.
This is a  from me.
I had not noticed that you had started a MD. I just went through the two pages and everything looks great. Very nice small town and the little story to go with it is nice. I really like the signs on the side of the roads. Great work.
Robin
Great new update! also a great work!
@Frankie: Once I get all the bugs out, I will make the mod available on the LEX.
@Heinz: I might have a harbor in the distant future. I haven't decided where I want to put one yet. There may be a possibility of ferries sooner than that though.
@Thundercrack: Thanks. :)
@Emilin: That is one of Colyn's slope-friendly farms that is currently exclusive to BSC members only. It will hopefully be released as part of the new farming content that has been discussed on this site.
@Kwakelaar: Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you like the details. Being detail-oriented is a double-edged sword with me. In some places, it is a good thing and in others, it's not. At least it is being put to good use here.
@Robin: I may release the signs someday. They are leftovers from a project I started and never finished.
@Bat: Thanks.
To start off this new update, I placed orders for some new high tension power poles a week ago to replace the corroded ones. Sea air is not very kind to metals. Fuduka Technologies came up with a new breakthough technology that repels the salt from the sea air. Last week, the new poles were installed between Independence and the little village of Pinewood in Coastal Heights. Below are two pictures of the new poles:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg81.imageshack.us%2Fimg81%2F1152%2Fnewpowerpole18je.jpg&hash=712f1574363c79325bae0ae84151b8896d4ee757)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg81.imageshack.us%2Fimg81%2F9116%2Fnewpowerpole28bt.jpg&hash=e5916aa44bb6b5be8787316a8c4d0abc57811b93)
They also look a little more natural and don't stand out like those red and white ones I originally purchased from Maxis Industries. The red and white might be fine near airports and waterways, but certainly not across land. The remaining poles in Indenpendence will be replaced next week.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg80.imageshack.us%2Fimg80%2F9119%2Fnewboxconstruction1nm.jpg&hash=ef212cc8eae0ee46a16f59c763553f1411fc1d56)
New houses are being constructed in Pinewood again. This one appears as a box. I'm still trying to locate the architect or the firm that is building this structure. I just hope it will stand up to the moist air that comes from the water to the east.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg238.imageshack.us%2Fimg238%2F6192%2Ffinishedbox0qv.jpg&hash=c203d5bcdf5220c3d0e733740fb31944ec4112c7)
The next day, I received a letter on my desk in Independence:
Dear Jan Haskins,
We are building some low cost housing for those with little or no income. Please look after the residents of these places. We will provide additional funds and assistance as needed.
Sincerely,
Barby and Randy
I sent a letter back saying I would most certainly help these folks out. I'm now looking for locations to have facilities to meet their needs built. Now, if you will excuse me, I need to go meet the newcomers....

Too much construction traffic during morning rush hour is not a good thing. Several hundread thousand dollars of damage was done to vehicles and property. Thankfully, not one person or pet was injured during the incident. However, many people were late getting to work. They didn't get fired. Instead, they were given a Mayoral escort to Independence (similar to a police escort for a group of vehicles).
Some of the other houses that were built during the construction boom:

Southeast of Pinewood, I've okayed the clearing of a portion of the forest for a church. Pegadyne Industries sent their best loggers to do the job. They also cleared some of the trees that were at risk of toppling in high winds.

A few months later, the St Bartholemew's Church opened its doors to the public. The pathway on the side is access to the parking lot on site. Seen here is the daily morning exodus of commuters heading to Independence to work in the industries or the Hardun Power Plant.
There are only one of the low income houses left in Pinewood. I was unable to stop some "land-grabby" developers from evicting the residents of the one on Maple Lane and redeveloping the property. They are expected in SimNational Court soon, facing charges for their actions.
Later in the afternoon....

Next time, I should have some more interesting developments to share....
-Jan
I like how you take the time to highlight particular architects in your showcase. It gives it a sense of depth (and must make the architects themselves feel pretty good too). I keep seeing those power poles in more and more MDs... I may have to pick them up myself. The accident shot was very well done. Did you just stumble across that, or had you seen it earlier and were waiting for it again? Whatever the reason, it's one of the biggest I've personally seen. Congratulations on another great update.
It's quite funny, but I found those early pictures of the pwoer line towers very beautiful. They were simple, but very picturesque, especially the second one with the road running next to it. And I love the small-town feel you've presented with all the houses and residential areas. Great update, my friend!
Ah yes, I know it can work both ways, but indeed for this MD it is a good selling point.
Liked the new update, the church is such a beauty (always thought it was from GC?).
I love your style, Swamper. I feel so small-town American - I need some apple pie stat. And baseball. ;D
I can't wait for more.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg95.imageshack.us%2Fimg95%2F9859%2Fsir0704haydensoundix3.png&hash=05d6d45bf2b43daabd0811a811b548602af2b043)
Swamper77, congrats! A small-town specialist... and more!
@Three Stooges: Any accident shot I take is after I stumble upon them. I do hear the tell-tale sounds of the accident starting, which is my queue to go look.
@Thundercrack: Thanks for your views on my pictures :)
@Kwakelaar: Yes, that is Gascooker's church.
@Flipside: I'm afraid you will have to look elsewhere for the pie. I'm not very good at preparing food :(
@David: Thanks for the award, but don't lock me out of my thread next time. I had to have Wouanagaine unlock it.
More developments have occurred since our last visit. They are located along the future Jade Mountain Loop Highway. The highway is far from being finished and it will be many more years before the roads make a complete loop around Jade Mountain. In the meantime, let's take a look at these new developments.....
New Roads/Highways
Pinewood Highway
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg158.imageshack.us%2Fimg158%2F5773%2Fnewnorthconnection6gw.jpg&hash=4dff5d67c56fb967cc22acc387143244b1c5b4bd)
The un-named roadway that lead to Pinewood in the previous update finally has a name. Pinewood Highway has been extended to the east to connect with a section of the future Inter Island Highway System (IIHS). The Pinewood Highway cuts diagonally through a forest of Cycledoggian oak, maple, and elm trees while traveling slightly uphill. The roadway has been carefully graded to make the ride as smooth as possible for traffic.
Shoreline Drive
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg230.imageshack.us%2Fimg230%2F8223%2Fnewsouthroad4ve.jpg&hash=e0f03f158ce1f9ba5469d50a90df87dd510cf1c3)
This section of roadway will also be part of the IIHS. Shoreline Drive connects Pinewood Highway to Coastal Crossing. This roadway is also slightly uphill along the diagonal section.
New Town
Coastal Crossing
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg529.imageshack.us%2Fimg529%2F5889%2Ffirstcoastalcrossingshops3kt.jpg&hash=97b9de145f008dcb4575e9f2a601cb078a4fdd0e)
Coastal Crossing is at the site of a future intersection between the Jade Mountain Loop Highway and Shoreline Drive. The first two businesses are a used car dealership and a small outdoor bar. The planned intersection is just to southwest of the car dealership. Power from Independence comes in via high tension power poles to the northside of the village. You can see the base of the line terminus at the top of the picture.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg163.imageshack.us%2Fimg163%2F2050%2Ffirstcoastalcrossingshops27ju.jpg&hash=fb350e3dd77af2bc0fe117ef3388ef9d2bb192c1)
Early the next morning, the woods across the street were cleared to make room for housing developments. Most of the workers will work within this village. The car dealership doubles as a car rental place for the people that need to travel outside of Coastal Crossing.
A few days later....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg233.imageshack.us%2Fimg233%2F298%2Fcoastalcrossingconstruction4le.jpg&hash=43865f8c93353b3a660f94f30aa9a434f7363473)
The houses of Coastal Crossing are complete and a community plot is being constructed among them. Across the street, PosCom Industries is building a pub. The name of this new pub is "The Grinning Hog". I just hope I don't have problems with drunk and disorderly citizens with all these liquor extablishments.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg163.imageshack.us%2Fimg163%2F8729%2Ffirstphotomat7aq.jpg&hash=52bb6ab60f06cde514a651a65e931eb2d7bff001)
Preparing for future tourists, a PhotoMat is being constructed in Coastal Crossing. They have the fastest photo developement system in the region. You can have your pictures developed in 15 minutes or less! (Developement time depends on the number of pictures to be developed)
A few weeks later....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg164.imageshack.us%2Fimg164%2F9091%2Fnewdolmitesdiner6hp.jpg&hash=b0c3cea0d69bc1a0fa2f5e1faae36ddbf2d41f50)
Sadly, the car dealership has been bought out by the Dolomite's Diner chain. Just before the business closed its doors, the owner donated the cars to the community.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F5972%2Fnighttimeparty6kk.jpg&hash=d3f0415a3ab775cbde69dceb740341b2b0f8adb9)
Two days after the diner opened, a new outdoor bar opened for business. I see that some crowd control is going to be necessary in the area, due to all the local bars.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg279.imageshack.us%2Fimg279%2F4299%2F1stregionalwafflehouse8yq.jpg&hash=1c2da36bfbdf9ad9fc7bfa7b2378a945344b4d4d)
A first for the region of Hayden Sound, a Waffle House Restaurant! Many of the locals can be found ordering their breakfasts here in the morning.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg233.imageshack.us%2Fimg233%2F2349%2Fcoastalcrossingoverview6tz.jpg&hash=1f84c2523b821e49b9f98a40f22aa283c8939813)
Here is an overview of the finished village of Coastal Crossing. It may expand in the future, but it is finished for now.
New Roadways
Jade Tunnel
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg196.imageshack.us%2Fimg196%2F1495%2Ftunnelsite3fc.jpg&hash=918d9a0907e6efee181be788a98dee6d238ccb8a)
To better connect Coastal Crossing with Independence, a tunnel will be constructed Cedar Hill at the base of Jade Mountain. The tunnel is a capital improvement project that will help bring communities together. Several workers travel to Independence for work in the Independence Industrial Park. It takes them over an hour to travel to work, due to the low speed limits. To speed up their commute and the progress of the Jade Mountain Loop Highway, the tunnel will have to be built.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg50.imageshack.us%2Fimg50%2F4012%2Fnewtunnel3yv.jpg&hash=5380450487a9382691384b809ca4f19e049b339d)
After months of construction, the Jade Tunnel has been completed. The roadways leading up to it still need to be upgraded as they are still narrow as streets. The entire project is very expensive. The initial budget for the project was $10K. The majority of the money was used on the tunnel alone. The expensive part of it was the tunneling and supporting of the hillside while the crews were working. The rest was used to pay for materials and labor. There is no money left. Phase I is almost done, but there are 2 other Phases of the project and no money to complete any of them.
Coastal Highway
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg523.imageshack.us%2Fimg523%2F7208%2Fsouthoverview1gv.jpg&hash=668b0db4530bb7605e701fcb8b324a8f5e56c2ad)
Another leg to the Jade Mountain Loop Highway and the IIHS is Coastal Highway. This section runs ontop of the coastal range in one area and up to the base of Jade Mountain to the south. It connects the Coastal Heights Township to the yet un-named township to the south. A new town is planned for the forest on the inside of the coastal section of the highway.
New Town
Terra Crossing
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg50.imageshack.us%2Fimg50%2F5862%2Fterracrossing0ei.jpg&hash=e92626578e5f6ed7af95e9e17d75484dee7cbbb5)
Out along the rugged east coast of the Coastal Heights Township, the hamlet of Terra Crossing has recently come into existance. Terra Crossing is all residential development at this time with about 160 residents. The workers travel to either Coastal Crossing or Independence for work. The land value is considerably higher here due to the proximity to the coast.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg523.imageshack.us%2Fimg523%2F6493%2Fterracrossingcrash3ev.jpg&hash=7506d2e474761d3f10a98ec98eec45e69fda862a)
With about 80 cars heading out to work each morning, this was bound to happen. Traffic was snarled for about an hour starting at 6 am, as people were heading off to work. No more accidents have occured since then as they have started carpooling to reduce the traffic load on their local intersection.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg230.imageshack.us%2Fimg230%2F810%2Fbusyjunction1uc.jpg&hash=bbc98b708dda4144332e50742d1e81963139f904)
Here you can see the workers from Terra Crossing traveling on their way to work. About 75% of the workers turn left and go through Jade Tunnel to Independence. The others work in Coastal Crossing. Sorry about the powerlines ruining the scenery, but they are necessary to get power to Terra Crossing. The SFBT power poles are better looking, but they have to sit on level terrain and it would cost a lot of money to level the terrain along the powerline right-of-way.

A local sim couple got married recently. Jake Kingsley and Rachael Ulysses exchanged vows before both of their extended families. There were so many guests that cars lined the street up to the church from the neighborhood. It was a very happy wedding and they chose me to lead the ceremony.
Hopefully, I will have more interesting developments for the next time we meet. Until then, enjoy your visit.
-Jan
jan my man. your developments come at near break neck speed! incredible governing, my friend. very interesting touch to small towns and congrats with the award. see you around
&apls Great update , even if i miss some but still like it. Nice biilbord you done and congrats for the award.
Wonderful thread and developement......I live in a small town myself and your reporting is very much like our regional newspaper, with a little more personality ;D ,thanks so much for sharing.
Great update! I love the focus on the new highway system that your putting in, and the new towns look great, too! Also, congratulations on being "Of Special Interest this Month!"
Well my best wishes to Jake and Rachel &apls
You are working with the budget, no BSC funding?
A really nice and very interesting transportation and development update. The little added details are great, and keep the reader moving along.
...cycledoggian...
Heh! I never thought about c.p.'s stuff that way- that's a good one.
Sorry about the lockout - flatulence of an overworked brain as I moved things around. Doesn't seem to have slowed you down much, though...
David
@Heinz: Small towns are easy for me to develop. As for the "speed", I'm just moving posts from another site for now. Once they are all moved, I will post the recent updates I have.
@Kim: Thanks!
Old Rogue: It's interesting to hear that I have a style that has a parallel somewhere else in the real world.
@Thundercrack: Thanks for your comments.
@Kwakelaar: All of the development is done within the game's budget of $100K because I chose the Hard difficulty setting. The BSC Funding Mod wasn't available when I took these pics.
@David: Thanks for your comments, and I won't hold the lockout against you.
I don't have any new developments to show at this time, but I am surveying two new townships that I plan to develop.
Stone Valley:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg240.imageshack.us%2Fimg240%2F9159%2Fstonevalleynorthxx1.jpg&hash=639b615da5b485f617a02ec66c9364ff17bfdeae)

Stone Valley is just south of the Coastal Heights Township. The northern portion is made up of hills with plains to the south. I'm planning to place another farming community on the valley floor. The coastal hills and Jade Mountain make a nice cradle, channeling all the rain water to the valley floor. The daily fog also helps keep the valley fertile.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg157.imageshack.us%2Fimg157%2F7797%2Fstonevalleynorthendiy6.jpg&hash=c86d447a8c7584fb3e617bec688873032a6ecced)
The Jade Mountain Loop Highway enters Stone Valley after climbing into the hills on Coastal Heights' southern edge. Once in Stone Valley, the highway wraps around a hill and then heads down to the valley floor. The roadway has been carefully graded to ensure smooth travels.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg80.imageshack.us%2Fimg80%2F4158%2Fstonevalleyhillsidecurvespx1.jpg&hash=3d259b7d5c244a5fabbe956439b18bcd396b9526)
A close up of the curves before the highway heads to the valley floor.

The highway heads down a carefully graded slope before cutting across the valley floor.
The construction firm, Swamper Roadworks, made the road cut across the valley to avoid cutting into hillsides. The original plans had the highway go straight before making a 90 degree turn towards the western border of this township. Swamper Roadworks decided that the planned route would be too expensive, so they rerouted it at an angle. This also cut down the distance to travel as well.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg87.imageshack.us%2Fimg87%2F4984%2Fstonevalleywestsideti6.jpg&hash=2bb748050f38624d9f8dc1165e7f1e50bc6c4baf)
Here is the last leg of the Jade Mountain Loop Highway as it heads to the next township. The highway is currently made from a series of road and street sections, but will be upgraded in the future as traffic conditions warrant.
Misty Plains:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg87.imageshack.us%2Fimg87%2F404%2Fmistyplainspreviewdp5.jpg&hash=3e0b2438dcb96f4056fd0283524930e1def2c391)
A view of Misty Plains, looking east.
Misty Plains is bordered by Independence from the north and Stone Valley from the east. The highway currently ends in this township just after the north and east borders. This township features a wide coastal plain that runs nearly the length of the entire coast. The township is frequently enveloped in fog, which reaches into Stone Valley's northern hills. The fog is less dense towards the northwestern portion of the Misty Plains township, so only thin wisps are ever seen in southwestern Independence.
Near the eastern border, I plan to build a small industrial town which will also provide power to Stone Valley. Somewhere along the coast, I will build the downtown area. So Verdant Island will have two "downtowns", one in Independence and one in Misty Plains.
Next time, I will show you how Misty Plains is developing.
-Jan
Jan- A really nice overview post. That highway through the woods looks like it would be a great drive.
I'm glad we're over the lockout thing- it would be a shame to see this great MD held up.
David
Wait, wasnt this MD closed .... %confuso ?¿ ;)
Great planning Jan, I lke these pictures with 99% of nature and 1% of human creations so well placed
wow nice roads and forest  &apls
Hi Jan-
This is a nice MD you have going here. You've really put cycledoggian stuff to good use (I've always enjoyed "adjectivising" things :D) and being a total roadgeek, I've enjoyed your recent updates about the highway network. And congrats on making it into the "Of Special Interest" category!
-Alex (Tarkus)
Stone Valley sounds like a great spot for farming and what's more, the climate (especially the fog) reminds me somewhat of the central coast's (of California) wine country. With the mountains in the back like that, A vineyard (or group of them) would fit so nicely in the valley area. You've done a great job with the landscaping, so the development has a high bar set for it. I have no doubt you will be able to pass it.
I agree with threestooges......very coastal Calif. and the landscaping is topnotch.... am very interested in how it develops..
I play with the 'hard' level also.....usually till I reach a point that the settlement / town / city has reached a right to me feel.... then will switch on the lottery to buy the stuff I just can't resist.... ::)
I am glad to see this MD again and I really like story line the way the development is kept small! :)
Stone Valley and Misty Plains look great so far, I can't wait to see some development!
wonderful pictures and great roads!
What everyone else said.
And added to that: your style is really unique. There is not much in this journal that can be seen anywhere else, well, not the way you use it, anyway. Great job!
A great ostentation of imagination &apls
@David: It's a pleasant drive, but you do have to watch out for the occasional animal crossing the roadway.
@Jeronij: Very funny $%Grinno$% I leave as many trees as possible when setting up new areas for development. There's more natural elements than man-made ones in my cities at the moment. You'll have to explain what "ostentation" means to me though &ops
@Hableurg: Thanks.
@Tarkus: Thanks for the interest in my MD. I'm currently using the ANT from the NAM as my rural highway system on the well traveled sections. Once you get the RHW stuff finished, I'll consider upgrading to it.
@Three Stooges: Stone Valley will be a farming community when I develop it. I can't promise that there will be any vineyards, though.
@Old Rogue: I work within the budget and haven't triggered the income generating ordinances yet. My income for each town/city comes directly from taxes and neighbor deals. The taxes are at the default of 9.0%.
@Matt: Welcome back. Nature preservation is the underlying goal, so the development is keep to a minimum.
@Thundercrack: In this update, you will get to see the start of development of Misty Plains.
@Bat: Thanks!
@Emilin: Thanks for your feedback. I've blended my personal touches with what I have seen in various CJ's at ST and MD's here.
Last time, I promised another visit to Misty Plains. So, let's go....!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg53.imageshack.us%2Fimg53%2F5966%2Fmistyplainsinduspowervs4.jpg&hash=884763f5bac18f4090d5ae4da155b688740740d0)
This picture was taken 2 months after the founding of Misty Plains. The initial setup of Misty Plains' industrial sector is seen here. Nexis Industries set up a generator in the steel shed and CSX Construction fenced off the property. The entire parcel is for a future power plant. The fuel for the generator is stored in the tall fuel tower nearby. Construction was just finishing up on a few remaining parcels in the industrial sector. The cement truck driver is going around to the back side to pour some concrete slabs.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg53.imageshack.us%2Fimg53%2F3435%2Fmistyplainscommerceun9.jpg&hash=2f3ecb92d4ebace5d25f9a420bea243f0bd2272d)
A few miles northwest of the industrial sector is the commerce district of Misty Plains. The businesses seen here are: Dolomite's Diner, CalTex Carwash (Deadwoods Petroleum Co.), a pub/betting shop (JMyers Designs), Cafe Joe & Wacky Candy (Ancient Society Creations), and a Texaco gas station (Bobbo662 Industries). The building in the bottom left corner is the only office building in Misty Plains. The traffic is quite heavy during the morning and evening rush hours, as the roadway is only two lanes wide.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg60.imageshack.us%2Fimg60%2F5264%2Fmistyplainshousingoa0.jpg&hash=d76d58ccb19cca81d7f5495df2137b5cfc204c2c)
Just to the left of the commerce block, are the housing developments. SimGoober and Dolphin Designs have been busy building new housing developments after razing older buildings. Many of the structures are stone or wood buildings. Most of the residents are working class citizens, but a few middle class residents have moved in recently. Plans are being worked out to have street side parking allowed. Residents currently park their cars in the woods, at the ends of the streets, if they don't have a driveway or allowances on their property for parking.
A few years later.....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg80.imageshack.us%2Fimg80%2F9329%2Fmistyplainsnewcommerceid2.jpg&hash=179cb6a913f6d19d8272f144ec0280d53e78dc94)
After several years, plans are now being drawn up to widen the roadway that leads to the industrial sector. All the properties on the left side of the roadway from earlier have been razed to allow for the service street to be put in. Cafe Joe was bought out by Goobers Nuts, a store that sells peanuts that are grown at a peanut farm in Independence.
Traffic is starting to get busy in this picture as the evening rush hour starts up. Plans for the future call for an avenue to run through the commerce block and a divided highway to the industrial sector. Over 400 cars a day use the narrow 2 lane road/highway to the industrial block. By having two lanes each way, traffic congestion should ease a bit and make the commuters a little more happier. The roadway the commuters use is a road in developed areas and a rural highway in rural areas. Speed limit is 20 mph in developed areas and 75 mph in undeveloped/rural areas. The divided highway when finished will also be 75 mph.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg60.imageshack.us%2Fimg60%2F2598%2Fmistyplainsindusexpandedjm8.jpg&hash=0c556f480fc89a5e6b68f27b54494513931346aa)
Here is a overview of the current industrial sector. At the top of the picture, you can see the end of the rural highway as it approaches the intersection near the power plant. The speed limit drops after reaching the intersection that is above the industrial sector (out of view at the top of the picture). The speed limit is 50 mph as you approach the industrial sector, and 35 mph as you drive by the power plant site into it.
The expanses of parking/paved areas were paved by Swamper Signs Inc. These areas connect the parking lots of the industries to the roadways and give the freight trucks a means to reach the loading docks of the warehouses. The industries run 3 8-hour shifts each day, but there are fewer workers at night than in the daytime. Most of the night workers are maintenance staff, making repairs and inspections before the next work day begins. The other workers load the trucks to clear the loading bays for the next day's shipments.

QuoteYou'll have to explain what "ostentation" means to me though
You show a great level of imagination when you write your history. In English I found only one word to translate the many different spanish ones we have for that. My original sentence was:
"Un gran alarde de imaginacion !!! " - Now, go and try to translate this yourself ::) :D :D
for what it is worth, you are now officially part of my list of comprehensive MDers, my friend. you imagine and share tremendous amounts of detail that any visitor can see and even hear or feel what is going on in your region. great work! see you around!
Great housing development! Wonderful pictures!
Fantastic work!
Nice with two updates to read and look at, I can just join the corus that say they enjoy this kind of detailed MD's
Misty Plains is looking good! I love the industrial sector that you've created. Keep up the good work!
@Jeronij: Thanks for the explaination.
@Heinz: It makes me happy to hear that I can convey scenes with text. I may try writing a story someday, one that isn't SC4 related.
@Bat: Thanks.
@Kwakelaar: I'm glad you enjoyed them. Here's another update for you to read.
@Thundercrack: I try to keep the industrial areas as small as possible to limit the environmental damage from all the pollution. Sadly, they never stay the size I start with and eventually expand.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg81.imageshack.us%2Fimg81%2F8319%2Fmistyplainsaugfogne7.jpg&hash=a2017cbff6db879c39e848b1e9eeac4f90de377a)
While flying over Misty Plains on a sunny August day with a SimNation Government helicopter, I watched the fog roll in off the water. It blanketed the town for several hours during the night of the same day. Misty Plains and Stone Vally were quite cool that night.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg204.imageshack.us%2Fimg204%2F4279%2Fmistyplainsinterupgradese7.jpg&hash=164ce8fc10f83c01b1224e5df67fba98068d1e96)
Anticipating future development to the west, the intersection near the commercial block was upgraded with traffic lights and left turn lanes. Previously, the intersection had just a stop sign for street that came in from the west. That street has been upgraded to rural highway status up to where the roadway turns towards Independence.
Rural highways in this region have the following characteristics:
- Speed limit of 50 MPH
- Limited access (Few intersections)
- 45 degree curves (90s in areas with limited space)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg204.imageshack.us%2Fimg204%2F3706%2Fmistyplainsnewresel2.jpg&hash=a236721bcbaa1a03903222058b6c2769cd7c3f28)
A small section of forest has been recently cleared for new houses to be constructed. Plans are being drafted for the town's first education and medical facilities. Medical care is handled by a mobile SimNational Red Cross unit.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg209.imageshack.us%2Fimg209%2F2601%2Fmistyplainsnov23housesld7.jpg&hash=d406ceda2ceb78b0e46988434b55830c71dc0218)
This picture was taken on a rainy November night. Power for the houses has not been switched on yet because the housing inspectors need to inspect the houses before the residents can move in. Some of the new residents are already at some of the houses, checking them out. Why one of them hung their laundry up today, is beyond me.
Construction crews in the Hayden Sound Region are very dedicated. Even as it is raining, the crews are finishing up the house on the end of the block. The house is a shotgun house built from plans that were inspired by the wild west. Thes Dale built a lovely Aussie house next door to SimGoober's Berwick house. The rowhouses were also built by SG. The other two were constructed by OnlyPlace4, who is overseeing the construction of the one that is being finished.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg291.imageshack.us%2Fimg291%2F3183%2Fmistyplainsnov23moversfn1.jpg&hash=ea18b0f1a52108ba98c70f5766207380b4690d6e)
The following night, the inspectors gave the "OK" for the entire block. Seen here are the residents' moving trucks, bringing all of their belongings. Two U-Hauls produced by Swamper Automation LTD. are seen here among the movers. The sides feature a picture of the Mars rover, a scheme that is unique to California.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg207.imageshack.us%2Fimg207%2F3261%2Fmistyplainsrainycommute2hy7.jpg&hash=b72e3f08d2c774901172870a271db2aec113384e)
From September to May, Verdant Island is rather wet from all the rain. Seen here is a morning commute in January after the new residents moved in. Most of the workers commute to the industrial park that is to the east (left) of the commercial block. The left turn lanes are certainly getting used. Good thing I requested that they be installed when the Transit Board approached me with plans to add signals.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg84.imageshack.us%2Fimg84%2F2527%2Fmistyplainswestsidecd2.jpg&hash=5b666b8fc8a5dff778775ac71a6cb92c2ac8a98c)
The roadway from the commercial block used to just head north at the intersection seen here. The roadway has been extended northwest to the western border. From the aforementioned intersection to the new signal, the roadway has been designated a rural highway. To the north, it is a country road with a speed limit of 25 MPH. The western extension is falling into disrepair due to the rains. The recommended speed limit is 35 MPH or less. The grey sections are gravel roadways where the road was damaged. Crews will be out later to finish making repairs and repaving the road. Over 8K was spent extending the roadway, rebuilding a good length of it as a rural highway, and adding the new neighborhood. Most of the costs for the roadway were for the grading of the roadway, to make it a smooth trip for travelers.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg207.imageshack.us%2Fimg207%2F6581%2Fmistyplainswestconnectcu5.jpg&hash=5c09e4c2d1aff47d61246f4073355a6f75e24845)
Seen here is the west end of the new extension. It hugs the "plateau" that the Independence connector road crosses. This leaves a lot of room on the coastal side of the new road for future developments. The fact that the road hugs the hillside is why there have been so many mudslides and fallen trees.
Once I get Misty Plains squared away, I will attempt to develop Stone Valley into a farming valley. I want to have a small town out there as well. I'm still analyzing possible locations for the town. As soon as I make my decision, I will start construction in the valley.
-Jan
Brilliant rain effects there and I really like those traffic lights/intersection things ( ()what() I'm sure there's a better term) you've made!
farms! small towns! oh im going to love that! :P hope the industry isnt so dirty that it makes the rain go dirty as well. for the welfare of the farms and farmers. i guess the rains would help the farms blossom. great work again, jan
Ah, I feel right at home with the rain-pictures :satisfied:
Jan very beautiful update love the intersection.
such a superb visit as always - pat
Great update! I love the highway network you're building, and the deveopment looks great, too! Keep up the good work!
Very nice pictures. Very scenic and quiet, nicely laid out. Why do you keep switching back and forth from raod to street in certain areas? ???
Robin
@Matt: In some rural areas of the USA, the traffic signals are hung from wires over the roadway at intersections. I made a mod to replicate this for my personal enjoyment of the game. I made some modifications to the NAM as well via an "override" file to place the wire-hung stoplights at the intersections that involve turn lanes.
@Heinz: The air pollution is being contained by the surrounding woodlands, and the farms are far enough away to not be affected by the pollution effects.
@Kwakelaar: It only rains during winter to spring in my region. It helps to keep the fire danger low ;)
@Pat: Thanks!
@Thunder: Thanks for your feedback. Eventually, I hope to have a highway system connecting all the townships of Verdant Island.
@Robin: I use streets to start with and roads to handle the diagonals, unless I really want that diagonal roadway section flat. At the time that these pictures were taken, the diagonal streets did not traverse slopes. The reason I start with streets is to keep the maintenance costs low until the people move in and I can start collecting taxes from them. The first roadways I upgrade are the ones that the commuters use the most. As for the one road that was really patchy, there were some landslides because of the rains. The street sections are the temporary patching job of the road department until the hillsides can be stablized.
In this update, you will being seeing the expansion of Misty Plains and the start of Stone Valley.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg216.imageshack.us%2Fimg216%2F3412%2Fmpwestexpansionqg7.jpg&hash=78db36ea8930a6d1a353b97936396a68e998e6fb)
The Western Woods neighborhood has expanded again. Drawn by the new medical clinic, more residents are moving into Misty Plains. The new medical clinic was designed by PEG Productions after a clinic they saw in the mountains near Sweden, or so they say. It is now one of many products in their Mountain Theme Productions series. This particular design was chosen because it blended nicely with the surrounding woods.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg216.imageshack.us%2Fimg216%2F1930%2Fmpr2constructionuj4.jpg&hash=e486732101c222119b560090afc01e26afe81eee)
After hearing about the near medical clinic, members of the middle class wanted homes in Misty Plains. Several lower class homes were bought out and then razed to make room for the middle class.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg236.imageshack.us%2Fimg236%2F2722%2Fmpr2moveinck9.jpg&hash=065b0bedd907c68f4d95f114ca1b71c6778133f5)
The new middle class homes that are finished. The two upper right houses were constructed by Just Another Sim Industries, the small house to the left of them was designed by 6459978 Designs, and the house in the lower right corner of the same group of houses was constructed by HomeFyres Builders, using plans from old Sears houses.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg208.imageshack.us%2Fimg208%2F7662%2Fmpwestconstructionur2.jpg&hash=261b89a5fd3477809cb959e59139f933cca92092)
A few months later, the construction crews were at it again. CSX Construction is just finishing up construction on one of their Cradock houses, based on a design seen in South Africa. Behind that house, SWI21 Designs is building another of their fantasy styled houses. Next door, SimGoober is building another of his RLS homes.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg227.imageshack.us%2Fimg227%2F7900%2Fmpeastr2fm4.jpg&hash=f7510e38bfcc5c11eef17c895d5f2f95899cf776)
On the east side of Misty Plains, more middle class residents have moved in. The same builders that built houses on the west side, have built houses here too. Two new teams were also at work here. Jen Designs constructed a nice green colored Saltbox Colonial House and Yticmic Industries built a nice duplex at one end of the block.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg236.imageshack.us%2Fimg236%2F2049%2Fmpnewcsitegb8.jpg&hash=748afb590b3f8b6b52db246b13a283ae2cfc78ef)
Just to the south of the section of the Jade Mountain Loop Highway that runs through Misty Plains, a new plot of commerically zoned land has been prepared for development. Power has been routed under the highway and runs a short distance via power poles. Spocky and his crew from SFBT installed the poles and wiring.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg208.imageshack.us%2Fimg208%2F1011%2Fmpblsrealestateyb3.jpg&hash=c414f6ef82facd168679dea10a0528e36aa1d5b5)
BLS jumped on the chance to setup a business in Misty Plains and bought the property. Shortly afterwards, Barby had a real estate office constructed on the site. She and Grampa Al take care of all the real estate business in Misty Plains and Stone Valley.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg68.imageshack.us%2Fimg68%2F3862%2Fmpautomotivejr9.jpg&hash=c33144397031483d0dce6afc74d0a6bd996cdc6c)
A few months later, two automotive businesses set up shop across the way from the real estate office. Madre Motors and NAPA Auto Parts will take care of your automotive needs, whether you need a new car or just some parts to keep your current one running. The NAPA store also provides roadside assistance for stranded motorists.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg68.imageshack.us%2Fimg68%2F9626%2Fmpinterchangemg8.jpg&hash=e5ffa62f9d41ab10fe899a9e21f47c3ad2fa15a7)
Over by the industrial park, a new interchange has been constructed. The design allows for free-flowing traffic without any direction crossing another. The right side connects to Stone Valley.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg53.imageshack.us%2Fimg53%2F7276%2Fmpfinaliccx7.jpg&hash=b32524f3fb3ee4671822d43535bb8d311b7d1b22)
During all this time, Stone Valley has been developing at a steady pace. With the recent connection to Stone Valley, some workers have decided to work over in Stone Valley. These few workers that do were having to make a U-Turn to get to Stone Valley. The entire interchange was torn apart and reconstructed. This is the current arrangement. The commuters do a good job of navigating it considering there are no signs installed yet.
Stone Valley

Stone Valley has been steadily growing, but slowly compared to Misty Plains. The town is home to 600 residents currently. Here is an early shot of the town during its first year.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg68.imageshack.us%2Fimg68%2F2085%2Fsvnearcurrentci5.jpg&hash=36b8733c527e6276c647652b8f80f1fe889c4cd9)
Several years later, this is the center of town. Housing extends to the east, west, and slightly to the south.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg215.imageshack.us%2Fimg215%2F3074%2Fsvoverviewyi6.jpg&hash=ea45e23b00280fcfccd7f9f412940c04de71b84c)
This is the town today. Home to 600 residents and a few commerical businesses, the residents prefer this small town look. They have petitioned for the General Store to be preserved as a historical building. I, as Mayor, am still reviewing the matter. After getting some more information, I will most likely preserve it.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg68.imageshack.us%2Fimg68%2F931%2Fsvhwywestto8.jpg&hash=31921b9ea44380b122246f22aa1f1d518b5f8474)
This is where the divided highway from Misty Plains enters Stone Valley. The Jade Mountain Loop Highway is mostly complete. There are still sections that aren't to rural highway specifications, but over time these sections will be upgraded.
Now let's have a look around Stone Valley....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg158.imageshack.us%2Fimg158%2F8930%2Fsvtimberframevi5.jpg&hash=a171c0a1c6d3e04479c30052139a2acd4bb5b590)
RP2004 Enterprises has been constructing several timber framed houses in Stone Valley. The only thing is they are exactly the same as each other.

Barby has had a cabin built here in Stone Valley as a place to escape the rush of everyday life. It is also her place to escape the daily harassment from the TM's. She is seen here frequently with several of her close friends, particularly on the weekends.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg236.imageshack.us%2Fimg236%2F1876%2Fsvtmhousecd7.jpg&hash=f1fa523f1c832e9bd5749fa269e82f95c2fbf94d)
To her dismay, the TMs have found their way to Stone Valley. Several of these "brown box" houses have been appearing across the region lately. Sounds of monkeys can be heard late in the night and there have been frequent mysterious fires, fueled by papers titled "Readme".

This is my first attempt at a mosaic. This one shows the overall spread of Stone Valley's first town, which is named after the Valley itself.
-Jan
i love the secluded feel of this MD! &apls I cant wait to see how this region grows!
Another great update! I love your custom-made interchange and the small-town feel in Stone Valley. Can't wait to see more!
hello again! still, the amount of detail in narrating the development of the region almost makes me hear the carpenters working, the mixer trucks pouring and the residents unpacking. you keep my interest level up with every update you share. keep em coming
QuoteThe entire interchange was torn apart and reconstructed
considering how good it looked, it must be frustrating to have to tear it down.
I like the interchange you have constructed, and of course the mosaic of Stone Valley
 Great!,a joy to read with that little hint of comedie! ;)
In reply to what you said to me........
Oh I see, now that make sense. I wouldn't have ever thought of that reason because I use a money modd and several other modds and now I rarely even pay any attention to the budget. Just build exactly what I want right from the begining. ;)
Another super update.
Robin
This journal always make me think: how can you achive so much with such a minimalist style? I said it before, but it grows more true with each update: this material is unique.
great small town, swamper77! wonderful interchange!
@Seahawk Fan: Patience is the law in this region ;)
@Thundercrack: Thanks for the feedback.
@Heinz: I'll try to keep them coming as long as Real Life permits me ;) I'm also trying to not be so dependent on my computers. I spent the past 2 days without my laptop and didn't suffer from any withdrawal effects from doing so.
@Kwakelaar: Thanks. That was my first attempt at creating both a custom interchange and a mosaic.
@Jayo: I don't recall inserting any comedy into my storyline, but feel free to remind me what it was.
@Robin: No problem. I don't mind having to explain my methods.
@Emilin: I make do with a picky selection of plugins. I'd say about 75-90% of my plugins are BLS/BSC/CSX content. The rest is stuff that I found interesting or just wanted to test out. Some are also files that I assembled myself for my own purposes. I'm interested in hearing what you define as "minimalist" though.... :D

Revisiting Stone Valley
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg329.imageshack.us%2Fimg329%2F8766%2Fsvfirstfarmshx8.jpg&hash=714bed257eb04a990f6c83d2e886828cddcfc259)
Stone Valley is finally becoming what I had envisioned from the start, a farming community. These are the first two farms that appeared in Stone Valley. On the left, is the Capt'n Bananas banana farm and on the right is April's Pride, which is a timber farm. JMyers designed the banana farm and Vlakhaas, the leader of CSX Construction, created the timber farm. The timber farm is surrounded by a grove of gumtrees.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg249.imageshack.us%2Fimg249%2F701%2Fsvnurseryfarmek1.jpg&hash=1776ae4e2c9f272da8941019c5487757da1d82c5)
Just to the east of the gumtree timber farm, is the Sainte Brigitte Nursery and its fields of daylillies. The farm uses all natural fertilizer made from compost with their plants. The compost is also distributed to neighboring farms if the farm produces more compost than they need.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F231%2Fsvcarnationfarmta2.jpg&hash=b3839f1627c405dbffe1e9253abc7c6307f896c5)
At the end of this farm road, a carnation farm has popped up with fields lovely pink and white carnations. The flowers are usually in high demand for formal events, so Lynn decided to setup a farm here in the region so the orders will be processed quicker. Normally, the orders were sent out to SimNation and took a long time to be processed. Now you can have fresh carnations in just a couple of days.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F8400%2Fsvturkeyfarmrh3.jpg&hash=906cf896a45f8066af17d214bdb225cdba90273a)
Heading back west on the other side of the street, we see the Stone Valley Turkey Farm. The turkeys are fed grain made from the wheat fields that surround the farm. You have to be quick to place your orders for Thanksgiving or any holiday event, as there is a limited number of turkeys.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg248.imageshack.us%2Fimg248%2F8649%2Fsvanotherbananafarmwv8.jpg&hash=e1a0a2f39ddbdc2ef37377e7abacad20c78ca1fa)
And yet another banana farm appears in the valley. The Funny Monkey Bananery is just around the corner from Capt'n Bananas' farm. The banana trees in the region are specially adapted to growing in temperate climates.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F1228%2Fsvwestfarmsoverviewxn8.jpg&hash=4cfae8b30b9ffafb5ce204996ec30b574f4d2879)
Just an overview of the farms that occupy the western side of Stone Valley.
Eastern Stone Valley:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F1567%2Fsvnewfarmsen3.jpg&hash=53d1ca1ee84a481d356b2d70c340432abbb15eb0)
On the eastern side of Stone Valley, several more farms have developed. At the bottom of the picture, a recreation of the famous Chicken Ranch which was constructed by PEG Productions. Now we will take a closer look at the other three farms:
Stone Valley Pineconut Farm
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F3430%2Fsvpineconutfarmzg2.jpg&hash=f5b1fa49ffc4a36baadd823bdc00a5a825a6350d)
This farm specializes in an rare genetically engineered plant that is a cross between a coconut palm and a pine tree. The trees look like pine trees, but have coconuts instead of pine cones. This farm is purely experimental at this time. If the crop does okay at this test farm, then others like it may be started elsewhere in the region.
Hill-n-Dale Farm CO-OP
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F7289%2Fsvjmyersoakusfarmrm2.jpg&hash=de72e2d982c9ef3bd5627843e37e657a5cfec254)
This CO-OP farm handles forestry products and the growth of new forests. The farm is surrounded by a special species of oak tree called Oakus Vlakhus. The tree is green is half of the year and has orange leaves in the fall.
Lilly Mae's Foresty Farm
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F9647%2Fsvlillymaebrushlandseb4.jpg&hash=7cbe7d1a8989b1ab2dd54236f749bd6703aaf81c)
Lilly Mae of Independence has developed another farm on Verdant Island. This one is surrounded by brushland that is characteristic of South Africa. The interesting thing is the brushland seems to have its own microclimate that is different than the farm and the surrounding landscape.
Detail Shots:

Darmok of Auduin Valley helped with the construction of paths for the Stone Valley Pineapple Farm. The farmers can now get their tractors and equipment to the fields out behind the farm.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg215.imageshack.us%2Fimg215%2F3552%2Fsvsecondstoplightsetad0.jpg&hash=1b1f3942254f902bb0d9ffe9e48bbe0175d6f407)
Stone Valley recently had a second stoplight installed, this one in town. Several accidents have occurred at this intersection, mainly during the morning and evening rush hours. The main cause was people making left turns and not checking traffic before doing so. Now the people making left turns can make their turns with a protected left turn. This particular installation does not have arrows for the signal over the left lane. (Image has been Photoshopped)
Next time, I will hopefully have some more interesting pics. I hope to see you again next time.

I'm interested in hearing what you define as "minimalist" though.... :D
Something like "growth before eyecandy". More focus on transit solutions and actual housing than parks and seafronts. Point being: I usually find that kind of approach rather boring (since I don't care all that much about game mechanics myself), but you manage to find new ways to do these things AND make it look good.
Another great update, by the way. The farms look excellent!
Hi there, havn't had time to stop and "smell the roses of Hayden Sound" for quite a while....love it.....developing very nicely...thank you for sharing.
Your farms are excellent, my friend! I love the banana one, especially, but all of them look magnificent! Keep up the good work!
QuoteThis farm specializes in an rare genetically engineered plant that is a cross between a coconut palm and a pine tree. The trees look like pine trees, but have coconuts instead of pine cones.
So I can now grow coconuts in here in Holland as well? :D
I don't know these farm very well, interesting to see some of the different types that have been developed.
Excellent looking farms. Very nicely laid out. I love it, Great pictures.
Robin
loving the farms! great to see you got what you set out to achieve. i find it rare for myself to do so. lol. see you around
Very nice updates Jan.
RL is bugging me so I only have time to comment during lunch break.
The farms are looking great. The mosaic is well done and the town grows and grows.
Great updates.
Nik-Nik
@Emilin: Thanks for the explaination. I didn't realize I was making boring stuff look good.
@Old Rogue: Welcome back. I hope real life is treating you okay.
@Thundercrack: The banana farms are by JMyers, and they tend to grow like weeds, literally. I can't count the number of times I fired up the bulldozer to remove them, just to watch them reappear.
@Kwakelaar: The "pineconut" trees are the side affect of me using my mod that replaces the palm tree props with pine trees. The field is a coconut palm field with palm tree props. It is a CSX farm field.
@Robin: Thanks for your comments.
@Heinz: I'm looking forward to your return. I have a few short-term goals set for each township that I develop. As time goes on, I set new goals for them.
@Nik-Nik: Sorry to hear that real life is bothering you. I hope it gets better for you soon.... Thanks for the comments.
I'm making a final trip to Stone Valley for the time being before I start another new township. Stone Valley is holding steady and has had a few upgrades since our last visit to the town....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg223.imageshack.us%2Fimg223%2F1783%2Fsvcarcarext6.jpg&hash=6b59e1581d8c91a7c106061733bdab51a26b0280)
Stone Valley residents no longer have to travel to Independence or Misty Plains for their car care needs. Exxon opened a new gas station and the Aussie tire chain Beaurepaires opened their first tire store in the region, across the street from the gas station.

Stone Valley has expanded towards to south a bit more. Many new houses have been added to the town. The small grove of trees in the new neighborhood is a reserved space for future development. At this time, it is small park that the children play in.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg220.imageshack.us%2Fimg220%2F3522%2Fsvfirstclinicfrontdo7.jpg&hash=6ac26efabd15053a1842a7d68e07ff42db2f7898)

Another upgrade that Stone Valley received was a medical clinic. Now the workers and residents can get local care instead of traveling to Misty Plains for healthcare. It also nicely complements the dental clinic that is already in town.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg208.imageshack.us%2Fimg208%2F975%2Fsvpostofficetw8.jpg&hash=ee44abb79d1d36a23914d2e899c5cb318d38943a)
With all the new residents, a post office has been added to the town. Independence, Misty Plains, and Stone Valley all have a post office.

Between the old and new sections of town, an alleyway was constructed. The alleyway is for the residents of the nearby houses to park their cars if their property does not have a driveway or parking available.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg242.imageshack.us%2Fimg242%2F2820%2Fsvnewhousessefi2.jpg&hash=0fb9d63e8b6a424d363f896cb0eec04da68bc92d)
Some Aussie-style housing developments have been appearing in town lately. The residents might be drawn by the local gum tree farm since gum trees are native to Australia.

Updated overview of the town of Stone Valley.
New Township for Development:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg242.imageshack.us%2Fimg242%2F9689%2Fhaydensoundnewcity11090nb6.jpg&hash=be4a067640b78641cfad6f030fbcd162111e9ced)
This new township borders both Independence and the township of Coastal Heights, which is composed of several small towns. There are currently three road connections between these two townships and the new one. I plan to build a town on the plateau close to Independence and work my way to the coastline from there. The peninsula on the other side will consist pf mostly farms and a few small villages. Power will be provided by Independence's Hardun Coal Power Plant until the new township can afford its own power plant.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg242.imageshack.us%2Fimg242%2F9381%2Ffreedombournecollageqa2.th.jpg&hash=158c1b4f9f835a1c8eb706756225e814b356995d) (http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/9381/freedombournecollageqa2.jpg)
Click the picture to see the full-size mosaic. Nothing is hidden under the grey area in the mosaic. I simply did not take enough pictures to reveal the entire township. Besides, it's only water and The Abyss in that area of the picture.
The next time I update, you will be seeing shots from the new township, Freedombourne.
-Jan
Can't wait for Freedombourne, Swamper!!
I love this MD.
lol @ the banana farms ubiquity. Happens to me too. :D
Another beautiful update! I love the new car repair shop! Can't wait to see how you develop the new parts of the region!
I'm going to be gone for the weekend to attend to an event. I'll be back late Sunday after leaving at 10:30 am on Friday PST.
-Jan
Pinecoconuts, still find them quite fascinating. :D
Love the update, and I hope you had a nice weekend.
Hey Swamper, RL is still bugging me, but what the heck, for some things in life you just have to make some time.
Great to see that Exxon gas station. The tire repair shop is a very nice lot. Well detailled.
Aussies attraced to gum trees. ha, ha, ha wait until I tell my colleagues (I am working for an Australian company).
Nice that overlaying entrance, you've made it yourself?
Hang on in there.
Nik-Nik
Great updat eonce again. Where did you get the piece that goes from the road to parking?

Thanks if you can help.
Robin  &apls
nice to see stone valley get up on its own feet with the new businesses. good development brings in commerce, yea? looking forward to freedombourne. rooker brought it up and made me take a second look. where indeed did you get that piece? nice!
@Flipside: Here's the preview of what you wanted to see.....
@Thundercrack: Thanks for your comments.
@Kwakelaar: I had a good weekend. Thanks for the good thoughts in my direction.
@Nik-Nik: Please don't get me in trouble with your colleagues. I'm glad you like the small town feel of Stone Valley.
@Heinz: Good development does bring in commerce.
@All: Looks like I have some explaining to do:
- Pineconuts: This is a side effect of using my "no palms" mods. The Maxis palm tree props have been replaced by the Maxis pine tree models with the current plugin arrangement I am using.
- Driveway "Connection": I made some custom transit-enabled lots using one of SimGoober's overlays to make the driveways "connect" to my roadway system. There are "T" and "4-way" lots for roads and streets (2 of each roadway type, 4 total). I made them for my personal use.
I haven't had much time to play lately, but I did manage to get a few pics from the new township of Freedombourne...
Development Plan
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg56.imageshack.us%2Fimg56%2F1570%2Ffreedombournemap111006tf6.th.jpg&hash=c1815236c73bada2c6aecda3491fa62b23877a20) (http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/1570/freedombournemap111006tf6.jpg)
The unlabeled land to the north will become farmlands and the lower level around the southern plateau will have the rest of the township's development. I'd like to have this township become a coastal city in the future.
Barby K. Winterton Nature Reserve Dedicated:
On the easternside of the southern shores, the Barby K. Winterton Nature Reserve was created. It encompasses most of the eastern side of the southern half of the Freedombourne Township. No hunting or fishing is allowed within the boundaries of the Reserve. Fencing has been erected along the western border of the Reserve:

The fenceline runs from the southern edge of the township to the coastline.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg217.imageshack.us%2Fimg217%2F5296%2Ffbpreservefencedetailtu3.jpg&hash=2ac398667c580f354c98a4b4095bfdbe69e0eb43)
The animals have been seen jumping the fence frequently. Passageways through the fence will be made soon.

Wow! The nature preserve looks fantastic! I love those fences. Keep up the good work!
Two wonderful updates. I especially like the little car with the flag on the roof. It's such attention to detail that makes this journal so good.
Great update. Very simple pictures, yet I like them alot. The fence looks great, very realistic.
Is there any amount of begging that I could do to get you to upload those personal use Driveway connection peices? I have no idea how to make stuff like that and I don't know of anyone else who has uploaded such a creation. I think they would be a great addition to the game. And they do look perfect, if I haven't already said so. ::)
Robin
nice plan and wonderful pictures!
@Thundercrack: A second nature preserve is on the table for being designated. It will be on the eastern part of the northern part of the township.
@Emilin: The Mini with the UK flag on the roof is part of this download on the BSC LEX: BRT Scandia Minis BSC (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=25). They are one of two sets of Minis that I created for this particular BSC project.
@Robin: I'll see about it. Begging me won't help $%Grinno$% I need to clean up the files first and my time is limited these days. I'm job hunting again :(
@Bat: Thanks.
A bit of an update on Misty Plains and some winter shots of Freedombourne are what I'm showcasing in this update....

The Starbucks and the Trixie's IV establishments have been bought up and replaced by Thompson's Trading Co. The office building handles various transactions with the SimNation Stock Market. There was a MTP business and a cell phone store next to the post office, but SimTech Inc. demolished them to make room for a local office for their company. Oh, look at that! It's starting to snow. ;D
A few days later, and in Freedombourne....

A section of Freedombourne is getting an Aussie make-over. Several Aussie-styled houses are being constructed in this corner of the town. The modular homes that were on these sites have been demolished and the scraps hauled away. What the? There seems to be a ghost cement mixer. Where did that come from? ???

With the recent redevelopment, several offices and a another shop decided to set up shop in Freedombourne. The new offices, from left to right: SimNational Bank, another branch of Thompson Trading Co., and a satellite office of BLS Real Estate.
Next time, I will have more pics of Freedombourne, and the snow that has blanketed the cities in my region

Jan them darn llamas will get you every time lol, great update and btw love the new avaitar - pat
Great pictures jan. The simple structure of the city gives it a natural beauty by it self. Ant the Barby K. Winterton Nature Reserve is even more beautiful - absolutely gorgeous .
Wow! Winter in Freedombourne looks beautiful! I love the picture of the llama running out into traffic. Keep up the good work, my friend!
Another super update. I say some wild life right up on someone's lawn. Now that very rural. As for the begging, I did mean it in a very nice way. I saw a tutorial on how to transit enable a lot. I think I'll read that over. ;)
Thanks,
Robin
Beautiful, Jan. I love Freedombourne, and I especially like your nature reserves. ;D I like sectioning off parts of my cities for nature too. Hopefully a developer won't have the nerve to plunk down a Toxic Waste Plant right next to it. $%Grinno$%
I'll be waiting for more. ;)
and you've hit 100! real quick too. &apls the wildlife reserve looks massive! and massive work must have been done to fence the whole thing. the snow looks great in freedombourne, my friend. and with what i see, more good development is bringing in more commerce. love the selection of residential my man
@Pat: Thanks for your comments and the humor :D
@Sebes: In this update, a second nature reserve is being dedicated. I'm glad you like the rural feel of my region.
@Thundercrack: Thanks. You can imagine how hard it is to spot a snow-covered llama against the snowy scenery.
@Robin: I was just giving you a hard time ;)
@Flipside: No developer will be getting anywhere near my region with such nasty developments.
@Heinz: I'm glad you like the layout of Freedombourne. I didn't notice the reply count because numbers don't mean much to me. It a "quality vs. quanity" thing ;)
Starting Monday, I will be working at my new job for an architectural/engineering company in Lynnwood, WA. I'll be working from 8 am to 5 pm daily. So my only freetime will be evenings and weekends. I'll try to update when I can, but real life has priority first. More info on the job can be found by following the "globe" that is under my avatar.
Now on to my update:
J. Colyn Serfontein Reserve Dedicated:

The reserve covers the eastern ridge on the northern part of the Freedombourne Township. It also includes the coves that are along the ridge.
Back in town....

Some houses have been added near the highway that comes in from Independence's commerical district.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg201.imageshack.us%2Fimg201%2F3563%2Ffbhondadealerbp2.jpg&hash=c5274bffea2b1ef6f635d830f03d272f96eaf2d5)
Freedombourne's first car dealership, a Honda dealership. Cars are imported via Chinook helicopters to Independence and now Freedombourne. The cars are dropped off in clearings or on roadways with low traffic volumes. Plans are being made to have designated cargo airstrips for cargo planes to land and offload the cars. The airstrips will be built in Independence and Freedombourne in areas outside of the city limits so the planes won't have to navigate around buildings.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg201.imageshack.us%2Fimg201%2F4341%2Ffbcrimescenedz5.jpg&hash=ec3d9175c17c2756d0026c46ccce37e2dc2c881e)
This crime scene occurred in the backyard of a rural-styled house. No suspects yet, but the horses have been ruled out as possible suspects.
A bit nortwest of the main town....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg166.imageshack.us%2Fimg166%2F8039%2Ffbmiddleclasstd3.jpg&hash=a526bb4587bf8e13ed22d2f5d1e13337a857c4d2)
Some middle class residents have taken to living away from the main town of Freedombourne. The residents of the house in the upper left of the picture are having some hard times, so their house is falling into disrepair. Hopefully, things turn around soon for them as it is a nice house. Some country-styled houses are also seen here.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg201.imageshack.us%2Fimg201%2F4374%2Ffbcountryhomeconstructiwr4.jpg&hash=ad3df600390659fa59972af7aabcebcb4e1136f6)
This country home finished construction just in time to see the neighboring plots get developed.

That particular country home also has quite a bit of wildlife frequenting the property from the nearby woods.

The finished neighborhood.
I will have more pictures from Freedombourne in my next update.
-Jan
Very nice update Swamper. I love the mix of custom content and the subtle humor - great work!
Another great update! It looks like there's a bit of a bear problem in town, though... I'll be looking forward to more!
Good luck at your new job, hopefully we still can get alot of updates, I am very greddy.
The reserve looks great, a nice place to camp maybe?
Robin  &apls
Great little town and fantastic pictures with snow!
Nice winter images, feels a bit strange as it has been quite warm here in Holland lately.
Hehe... the bear on the front lawn must be the best excuse ever to skip work and stay at home. ;D
Jan that was an awsome update and i do agree w/emilin. If i saw that there was a bear in my front yard i would freak ooooh wait i have and i did lol. I had called my neighbor cause it was the first time i saw a black bear in the front by my car and my poor dog was going ape poop lol. My neighbor told me not to worry he would come over and shoot over its head and that scared the bear off. I cant wait to see what you have planned when you can get back here again - pat
@Meinhosen: Thanks.
@Thundercrack: No bear problem here, just nature wandering among man :D
@Robin: You may be able to camp in it in the future, but no campfires allowed.
@Bat: Thanks.
@Kwakelaar: I felt cold while editing them in PhotoShop ()sad()
@Emilin: A probable excuse though ;)
@Pat: Interesting real-life story. Thanks for sharing it.
I lost my new job on May 1st at noon, after starting on April 30th at 8 am. I'm now unemployed again, and rather unhappy about it. This update was delayed because I've depressed about losing my second job of my life. I'm now looking for another job :(
Freedombourne is going through a stage of growth lately, which includes some not so good aspects as well.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg518.imageshack.us%2Fimg518%2F2623%2Ffbfastfoodgarbagetk4.jpg&hash=6b17c4baa643345f42f7e0e3fe6b67f251a79f6c)
What-A-Burger has been causing a garbage problem in Freedombourne. Litter can be found for several blocks along the roadways that lead to it. There's quite a bit in the parking lot of the business as well. Several complaints have been filed and the EPA of Hayden Sound is looking into the matter.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg172.imageshack.us%2Fimg172%2F8246%2Ffbmajoraccidentfe7.jpg&hash=8aec8e237247d54e554c95794fa0b5c91523f0a5)
Trash is not just an eyesore, it can cause accidents as well.

A couple months later, a mysterious fire burned down the fast food restaurant. The remains were cleared and several new businesses have been founded in its place.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg181.imageshack.us%2Fimg181%2F7890%2Ffbsmallbusinesseshr3.jpg&hash=38d633f5809e92d218a1f3203003ea4cdb12d239)
Businesses that are down the road from the former What-A-Burger.

On the other side of downtown Freedombourne, a new strip mall opened its doors. Why the town needs 2 CellMart stores is beyond me. All 4 stores are by JMyers and were grown. One of the units is "for lease" if anyone is looking to start a business in Freedombourne.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg522.imageshack.us%2Fimg522%2F117%2Ffbnutshopkm5.jpg&hash=853101dc45618710f986dc8aef37339b497f359e)
A new nut shop that opened up nearby.

The Citago station that is across the street from the nut shop. One of two gas stations that Bobbo has constructed in Freedombourne. The other one is next door and it is a Shell station.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg172.imageshack.us%2Fimg172%2F1323%2Ffbmiddleclassrecoverednc7.jpg&hash=352dee2bdc402b5c739a4b853e0428a9626836a0)
The middle class family that was going through some hard times is doing better. Their home looks much better than it did several months ago. However, that old car is still being worked on at the back garage.
Speaking of better times, the Freedombourne Industrial Park has seen some growth:

Out to the west, another school and clinic are constructed and opened to the public. Quite a few Australian houses are seen in this area as well.
Within a few months, there is a major accident in Freedombourne:

Sorry to hear about your employment situation, Jan. But don't worry, you'll be back out there in no time!
As for the update, it certainly looks like Freedombourne needs a sanitation overhaul! Hopefully the town can get it straightened out. Great update, my friend! Can't wait to see more!
Sorry to hear the new job did not work out quite as you had hoped, I was really thinking it would be something that should fit very well with your talents.
Nice to get another update from you, lots of small details makes for interesting reading in this MD.
another great update! also a fantastic industrial area! &apls
At least Sharky's opened up where the fire had been. ;)
I don't know about you, Jan, but most of the accidents on my cities' roads are caused by the mayor playing UDI. ;D &Thk/(
Beautiful stuff. Always a pleasure to view.
you have a cool selection of residential bats, i like all the one story houses
Burning down an establishment that pollutes is an interesting way to solve a towns environmental problems... :P Let's hope Freedombourne's fire department is up to the task once the arsonists discover that industrial park.
@Thundercrack: Freedombourne is having an easier time dealing with the garbage now that the fast food restaurant is gone. A sanitation facility is being constructed out by the industrial park to deal with the garbage problem.
@Kwakelaar: I'm glad you like the details of this MD.
@Bat: Thanks.
@Flipside: The accidents I get are caused by commuter traffic alone. I hardly touch UDI any more, unless I need to check pathing/routing.
@Zaphod: Thanks. Most of the one story houses are either SimGoober's or ThesDale's. ThesDale's are based off homes in Melbourne Australia.
@Meinhosen: Freedombourne currently just has volunteer firefighters. A majority of the townspeople are trained in firefighting with classes that are available from Independence. More on that in a future update ;)

Joe opened another Cafe Joe coffee shop in Hayden Sound. This one is in Freedombourne at the corner of Main and 1st Streets. Cafe Joe has drive thru service all day to accomodate all the shifts of workers coming and going to the industrial park. Beware of the police though. They wait here, looking for speeders.

Next time we will visit one of the other townships. (I'm not going to say which one either $%Grinno$%)

Ohhh wow i cant believe i missed the last update Jan and I'm sorry to hear about the loss
of your job. the updates where great and hmm i tend to agree about the little burning of
What-A-Burger is kinda weird but hey it gave opportunity for more business to come to town.
What is that building that says smart on it next to the theater BTW. cant wait to see what
town we go to next - pat
btw i didnt notice till now welcome to page 7...
Nice one ;D More,more.ect ::)
Thanks for the tour around town Swamper - but a word to the wise - don't let the Australians take over (just ask any Brit ; they'll tell you :D) Just kidding - I like the elevator that you've used for disabled access - nice touch!
The updates have been great (though I'm sorry I haven't been able to comment more as of late). It's interesting that those kids are walking to school so calmly given the proximity of a somewhat large woodland creature. It must be a pleasant community to get along so well with nature.
Sorry for being gone for so long. It's depressing to be fired a couple of days after starting a new job, so I was putting off working on this MD while I was trying to forget about being fired. Since then, I have put together some custom content for the public and for myself. I have also developed these few cities I have to a point where I am happy with them. So now, I will start this back up with some new pictures after the replies....
Replies:
@Pat: Now you will finally see what town we will be going back to ;)
@Jayo: Here's more (finally ::))
@Matt: The Australians and the British seem to be getting along fine in my region so far. I'm glad you liked the elevator access. Accessibility is a must in my cities.
@Three Stooges: The kids aren't quite as scared as real world children about being near a large bear due to the number of field trips and the lessons on wildlife ;)
Welcome Back to Independence!

While I have been developing Independence, some new developments have occurred in Downtown Independence. First, there is a complete Farmers' Market behind the post office. Mediterranean in style, it attracts a lot of people who are interested in fresh food from the local farms. There are numerous stalls, a weigh house, and a large market hall on site. Next to the college, a Mercedes dealership has taken up the space on the corner between it and the bank. Commercial Avenue has been widened to a full avenue since the original roadway was getting congested at many of the intersections. The new avenue upgrade enabled the development of several office buildings across from the post office. At the top-left of the photo, you can see the new local electronics shop, Nexis Electronics. The gas stations, the bank, and the bed & breakfast place still remain due to protection of new laws that do not allow redevelopment of necessary commercial services unless there is a larger lot available providing the same services.

Another Farmers' Market The first one was such a success that a second one was constructed at the north end of Downtown to handle the overflow. The local wealthy residents helped to provide the funding for the site and they have been seen here, buying local produce.
Independence Industrial Park
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg174.imageshack.us%2Fimg174%2F9494%2Findependenceindustriespxm2.jpg&hash=74bd720fb2ee3b3ebbe578d14713fc16692210c2)
This is how the industrial park in Independence looks today. Some high-tech industries have moved in and set up shop next to the buffer woodlands. Some reconstruction also took place as pipes were repaired underground after a pipe burst in the middle of the central intersection in the block. A traffic analysis showed that there was low traffic on that street, so the signals and turn lanes were removed during the repairs.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg410.imageshack.us%2Fimg410%2F9311%2Fhightechlocalens5.jpg&hash=37e276902069cf4cc0db95f80edb3a06114dc823)
Most of the entire left side of the industrial park is high-tech in this block. There are a few manufacturing industries mixed in among them. Looks like they are unloading a truck at the larger of the high-tech industries. Let's have a closer look....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg410.imageshack.us%2Fimg410%2F3880%2Fflowertruckrq9.jpg&hash=bf26ed56c060278637aa08f5f36a0d84d285383b)
Looks like a cop is giving the trucker a hard time about the load of flowers that are being unloaded from this place.
Now, let's head out west on the Jade Mountain Loop Highway before the cop sees us. :D
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg53.imageshack.us%2Fimg53%2F9898%2Fnewconnectorstreetij3.jpg&hash=85981b66b4ca9b65aae3af7604225c00029c083a)
Just west of Downtown, a new connector street has been built to connect to Farmview Estates. Some of the residents enjoy the quicker commute. Instead of heading west through their neighborhood to reach the highway system, they can go out the backside of the neighborhood. In the future, a Bureau of Farm Management will be built near where the new street connects to the Jade Mountain Loop Highway.
Continuing west, we come upon the farmlands.....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg526.imageshack.us%2Fimg526%2F6862%2Fupgradedhwyintersectiondc6.jpg&hash=f576fdaf4bd10772d84585e4a85bd621644bc2f0)
...and the newly upgraded highway intersection. The intersection was getting congested, so it was widen which also provides better clearances for turning vehicles. We are going to head south here, to see some of the new farm developments.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg338.imageshack.us%2Fimg338%2F9695%2Fspringroadmn9.jpg&hash=572e4f7388f2594854469d6df05704854ae52d3c)
First intersection we come across is Spring Road. A short distance to the west, there is a freshwater spring that is maintained by CSX Industries. A volunteer crew cleans out the pool at the base of the spring every few weeks. Turning left here, we see two farms that weren't here a few months ago:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg46.imageshack.us%2Fimg46%2F463%2Foaklabsbd2.jpg&hash=87cd349a2d1bbe42482b743f16f7d9039fac9aae)
A oak tree farm specializing in Oakus Vlakhaus has started operations here along with a CSX GM lab. The lab is surrounded by scrub/brushland and has beacons on all their antennas for safety reasons.
Heading down the highway further south, another intersection....

...and two more new farms:

The Paladin which boards and raises horses. Looks like they are taking a horse or two out for some riding in the woods somewhere else. I see some horses have escaped their pen. Doesn't surprise me with the height of the fencing on that pen $%Grinno$%

Across the street, we have the La Montage Vineyard and Winery. They make fine wines which they sell locally and export to SimNation. Their wines are very affordable and come marked with the Veradant Island Crest (http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o144/Swamper77/General%20Pics/VerdantCrest.jpg). Be sure to pick up a bottle before we leave. ;)
We're going to head south once more, and then west.....

...another turkey farm. Did you know it costs $2400 just to remove the main farm lot and $10 for each field tile? I talked to Barby W. and she says there is an inherent high cost for willingly destroying turkeys. So I left this one alone, as much as I didn't want it here. &mmm
Now, we are going to head back north to the highway intersection and then west...

...to see the new farms that occupy the northwest part of Independence. 2 agave plantations, a maple tree forestry farm, a garden cottage, 2 lily farms, a sunflower farm, another banana farm, a lavender farm, another orange grove, a corn farm, a cabbage farm, and a lime farm make up the new farms. There are also some houses tucked in among the fields. All housing lots are 1x1's. Let's have a closer look at some of the new farms....

Darn truckers gawking at it. No wonder traffic is slow on this section of highway. There's 2 westbound sections of highway leaving Independence. This is the first one that was constructed and West Farm Highway was built later as the farms expanded. *Suddenly the ground shakes and a loud THUD is heard* What was that? Sounds like it came from a nearby farm...

The last of the Ponderosa Pines have been harvested from this farm. It's going to be bare with stumps for a while. I kind of liked seeing those tall trees from a distance. :'(
Time to head back to Downtown Independence...for a train ride :)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg46.imageshack.us%2Fimg46%2F8137%2Fpostalaccidentts6.jpg&hash=847453423a1d3da5d165da2a87a00d5cdbca4d67)
We're going to go to College Station, but it looks like we will be held up a bit. The station is to the right at this light. We're going for a ride on the new train line that connects Independence to Misty Plains.

Due to space limitations, the tracks could not use the gradual curves to get back down the hillside.

After getting down the hillside, we pass the southern section of the Jade Mountain Loop Highway. Looks like the highway is busy tonight.

Last glimpse of the Highway before we reach the border of the Independence Township and enter the Misty Plains Township. There's one more cut we will pass through, called the Misty Cut.
We will continue this next time from Misty Plains....
-Jan
A great and lengthy update, Jan- it was a treat to start up SC4D tonight and find it. And there's plenty of jobs out there. I bet you'll find another worthy of your talents in no time.
Good luck, and thanks for the new stuff in this fine MD!
David
Jan,
I really like your region. And your custom content. And you're a really nice guy. I can't wait to see more of your development, you have the rural feeling down really well.
I'm sure you'll find another job without a problem, as I suspect your programming skills are on par or better than your SC4 modding skills, both of which are impressive in my book.
Cheers,
Kevin
(Someone who does not pound at a keyboard for his daily bread, electricity, and internet.)
Massive update, my friend! Glad to see that you're back in action!
Independence is looking just as great as she did when you left off, and those railroad pictures at the end of the update are absolutely magnificent, as are your industries and farmlands. I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing more of your work!
Jan its great to see you jump start Hayden Sound again with such a wonderful and plenty full update  &apls  &apls  ..... I agree with David that you will find anther Job worthy of your skills... trust me i know im trying since Feb LoL...
A lot of wonderful pictures! Great farm area and also a wonderful railway!
@David: I hope to get a job in the near future too. I'm glad you liked the update.
@Kevin:I'm glad you like the rural feel to this MD. As for my programming skills, I don't have any except for what applies to this game. Outside of SC4, my LUA programming skills are useless.
@Thundercrack: Here's more of my work for you ;)
@Pat: I'm still surprised this MD wasn't shuffled off to one of the other sections because it had been almost 2 months since I updated the other day. I've been trying to get a job since January, but I'm not having much luck.
@Bat: Thanks.
Continuing the train ride....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg440.imageshack.us%2Fimg440%2F8763%2Fmpnorthconnectionaw9.jpg&hash=5049d79dc5f6e37b6091b325c2270c6d54f5cf98)
Coming into Misty Plains from the north, we catch glimpses of the commuters that choose to drive to work instead of taking the train.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg266.imageshack.us%2Fimg266%2F9656%2Fmpjmlhcrossingnorthtf4.jpg&hash=7a38e09ff7706367c711401d62b83417ab6908c2)
The train takes a right, here at the junction. It's heading to West Misty Plains Station. At a future date, a switching tower will be added to this location. This railroad crossing is the busiest in this township.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg516.imageshack.us%2Fimg516%2F2672%2Fmpweststationoq8.jpg&hash=867249015317941e87d951ca6a2e61563d820208)
Arriving at West Misty Plains Station, we get "warped" onto the station platform as the train fades away. Mostly apartments in this area, but most of the residents take the train to work in Independence and Freedombourne. The station has a few shops and an underground parking garage. While we wait for the next train, let's take a look around...."TAXI!"
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg518.imageshack.us%2Fimg518%2F8853%2Fmpwestdowntowncurrentey3.jpg&hash=26367a4ebf195686d61db86726a2b3ac08ceda6b)
This is the western commercial district. To the locals, this is the "Western Downtown" of the township. The centerpiece of this district is the pedestrian mall in middle. Access to it is achieved by two avenue crosswalks and two parking lots. The local health clinic and school are in this area as well. The school teaches kids through the end of high school. A college is in the plans to be constructed somewhere in this township, but the location is undetermined.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg440.imageshack.us%2Fimg440%2F4151%2Fmpmayoralestatekm7.jpg&hash=94dbf5856d59ebfa0fd90758a0ce10d92b7c0311)
Nearby, is the Mayoral Estate. This is my third home in this region. I do most of my work from Independence and occasionally visit here and and the one in Freedombourne.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F1605%2Fmpwatertowergu3.jpg&hash=a7c68c47b76d0e37a3902efcbb7ca3563c80ba87)
Across the neighborhood is the city's water supply. Gshmails, CEO of Black Hole Corp., constructed the tower for the city after the water pump stopped working. The local utility crews disabled most of the pollution controls that were installed since bad effects occurred in other cities in SimNation when the water tower was taken offline or demolished in those cities. *I pull out a time schedule* The next train is due to leave soon, so I will take you back to the station in my limo. *Flags down his driver, who was just coming down the street* "To the station, please."
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg441.imageshack.us%2Fimg441%2F23%2Fmprailcurverxu6.jpg&hash=18e77b1877989d4bdc81329de173e09b63eb4e01)
We caught the next train with time to spare. This one is heading to Downtown Misty Plains. We've just came down the hill and are going around the next curve, after which the tracks run parallel to the Jade Mountain Loop Highway.
A closer look at the nearby highway intersection...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg441.imageshack.us%2Fimg441%2F4789%2Fmpjmlhintersectionrm9.jpg&hash=ad85646e7b685e30e123b9c83fc3e5f20c8d72c7)
This intersection links the JMLH to the western part of the township and the neighborhood we just visited the water tower in. It usually sees about 1000-1500 cars a day running through it. At a future point in time, this intersection will be upgraded, possibly to an interchange. But that will only occur when the conditions make that upgrade necessary.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg118.imageshack.us%2Fimg118%2F5830%2Fmpjmlhcrossingxv7.jpg&hash=89261af72c2aad0170b56fd7dd9f3eccf312f9c3)
Now we are now approaching the second busiest railroad crossing in this township. It's not as busy as the first one I showed when we went to West Misty Plains Station, but it is still considerably busy.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg128.imageshack.us%2Fimg128%2F1779%2Fmpjmlhcrossing1rn5.jpg&hash=f0321bed489f175e1c0df71ff456f244fc134ccf)
Us going by and a few minutes later...

Here we are, Misty Plains Station in Downtown Misty Plains. Same plans as the other, but it makes construction easier that way. We're going to take another taxi ride..... "TAXI!"
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg505.imageshack.us%2Fimg505%2F4398%2Fmpservicescornerxq3.jpg&hash=7cd6649cd6ffbe50b40ccde817a49971aabc47c0)
This is what the locals call "One-Stop Corner". Here, you can buy a house/rent an apartment, buy/lease a car, and get your legal needs taken care of. BLS Real Estate is across Main Street from the BMW and Daihatsu dealers. Next door to the Diahatsu dealer is the Wisner Law Offices, as designed and constructed by JB Simio. A similar building model is used for apartments, but none have been built of that design yet in this region. A post office designed by him is just down the street from the Real Estate office. We're going to head north to the other half of Downtown at this light.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg441.imageshack.us%2Fimg441%2F7659%2Fmpmorningturnstz5.jpg&hash=3f01af8d371df64d614875e40a1aa4d93923d8ce)
This is the other half of Downtown Misty Plains. North of here is more residential housing, mainly small family homes. The White Swan Pub on the left serves some the wine that is produced in Independence by the La Montage Winery. There are two Tapas bars on the right. We will be making a "U-Turn" in the middle of this block and following the traffic east, to the industrial estate.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg413.imageshack.us%2Fimg413%2F5996%2Fmpindustryexitnu1.jpg&hash=a9517f5e9220e591fcbc9861548d2bcdfa213874)
This is the main exit to the industrial estate. It's so busy that the original avenue interchange structure was torn down and replaced with this Highway T-Junction.

Looks like we have some slow traffic ahead at the gate to the utilities section....
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F6291%2Fmpsecurityiz7.jpg&hash=40ea8a9cc2f11cd7fa11a65b1d531eacb24a5fc6)
It seems that the speed of the security checkpoint is slower than usual, which is causing traffic to back up. We'll just mosey around them in the other lane.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg412.imageshack.us%2Fimg412%2F3323%2Fmpindustybusyvp3.jpg&hash=56027904d5f179d873b5b7a9407ca549f92f9f83)
This is how traffic usually is, without the security traffic backup. Traffic usually backs up to the T-Junction without the help of security. Usually, the left lane is empty so drivers can get around backup, for the most part

We're going to head straight through the light and take a right at the next one.

This is the end of the Sounder line in Misty Plains. A few commuters from Stone Valley come down this street though, to head out to at least Independence. The street is usually lined with parked cars so a parking lot/garage will be built adjacent to this street, probably across from the station. *Sound of brakes screeching and horns of trucks blaring*

Looks like two semis almost got into a "Bonnie and Collide" :D *Sound of revving semis*

And now two semis are having a "drag race" on Industrial Drive. I guess the truckers get bored on their lunch break ::)

New connector road for West Woods. Connects to road at the bottom of the above picture.
And I will now leave you a detail shot from somewhere in Misty Plains, as we head back to the station:

Next stop, Freedombourne. I will be on the train with you to answer any questions you may have on the way to Freedombourne.
BTW: I have a new township in mind for development:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg508.imageshack.us%2Fimg508%2F3408%2Fhaydensoundnewcity07240ty5.jpg&hash=0396c654e1b63f811dc896d97b658fc41faaea82)
Any ideas for naming the waterway that is in the middle of the new township? All I can think of is "Veradant Channel". The city name is irrelevant because I will be building two in that township, one on each side. I just need a name for the waterway that will be between them.

Fantastic new pictures, Swamper77! Great region overview!
QuoteLooks like two semis almost got into a "Bonnie and Collide" *Sound of revving semis*
Jan ain't it weird how them truckers drive LoL... Was that shot planned or did it happen as you
was out trying to take some pics? Anyways a fabulous update and far as the waterway
I like the name of "Veradant Channel", what about instead of Channel how about " Pass "
See you next update - pat
BTW its a 90 day grace period of in-activity thats when you would have been bumped to Completed Section...
Pat,
Those two shots where taken while I had the game on Pause. They were positioned like that in two locations on the same roadway. The intersection at the bottom of the second semi image was between both pairs of semis.
If you look closely at my pictures, you will notice a lot of photoshopping going on. However, the vehicle positions are the actual positions, not photoshopped into place. So that semi that cut the other off, was actually there on the road in that position.

woah that region map takes me way back! Anyone remember Digby?
Very nice swamper, always a treat to read.
Magee,
That is exactly the region map I used. The author of Digby nicely provided the map to the public at ST. I rendered it with CycleDogg's Columbus Terrain Mod and Pegasus' Brigantine Water Mod. My snowcaps that are seen in the region aren't working as of late, so I have to find the file(s) that are causing the problem or that are missing. I have them downloaded, but they aren't working right now.

Another fantastic update! Your transportation networks are excellent, and I love the region view. I'll be looking forward to seeing how you further develop the region!

Load the snow cap mod after your terrain mods. It's the actual terrain mod that's causing the minor issue. It should then work.
You know, this looks good, it's got a slow, peaceful feel to it, and I quite like it. Though, admittedly, you make the area sound bigger than it actually is in region view. :P
Good job!
Shadow Assassin,
I got the snowcaps fixed. The file for them got modified, which caused the snowcaps to go away. I replaced the file with the original one.
As for the region size, it is larger than what I have shown so far of it. I used the entire Digby Region from the STEX :P

Jan,
I really like your development and the little pieces of your "personal" content, especially the wire-hung traffic lights.
Cheers,
Kevin
Swamper, that farm area brings tears of joy to my eyes. :'( I love it, I love it, I love it. ()stsfd() Never be gone so long again!
awesome!!!! i love it!
those cars with lights, is that clever photoshopping or a secret mod you are developing? *hint* *hint*
:D
Well again it's been a while since my last comment here. From what I have read, it has been too long. The updates are great and so finely detailed. You have a true knack for transit systems, but what makes it even better is the story you wind into it. Case in point: you took a pic of a wildflower farm with a truck in it and gave it a personality the truck "slowing down" to look at the flowers... well done. It's great that you have used the digby map, but even beyond that I think oyu have achieved a digby quality as well (one of my favorite CJs). I hope things are going well in the rl arena, things seem fine in here. As far as a name for the channel goes... perhaps Jade Channel/Inlet, referring back to the name of the mountain from the first post.
