Title: Low Definition-ing Things?
Post by: JoeST on June 21, 2009, 06:40:36 AM
Regarding High Def Props [linky] (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=7464.0) and Textures [linky] (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=7430.0).

In these topics is discussed trying to get both z4 and z5 (two closest zoooms) into the same file. Also is discussed what happens if lower zooms are not present (I seem to remember). So would it be possible to remove the closer zooms from my plugins without having disastrous effects on the game speed (due to the processing involved of creating the zooms on the fly). I don't mind about reduced speeds (to a point) or lowered quality. This is all in an effort to speed up loading time and reduce plugin folder time.

For props, you can set the exemplar to have them only show up in the closest zooms.  This would be a good idea on smaller props that are used a lot, like bushes, flowers, people, etc.  I don't think this can be done for buildings, but that shouldn't matter as there is only one "building" per lot anyhow.

Thanks SG :) but I was considering actually removing FSH's from the modelfiles, as to reduce their size :)

FSH of far zooms have small file sizes anyway - so why bother?

Removing the FSH files may have a marginal benefit at game start up time, but none while the game is playing.  Having the props not show up at all when at the further zooms would definitely reduce lag time while playing.

I dont mind the play lag, its the start up lag that I am trying to diminish. and this was mainly for the larger buildings.
