Hello all,
the NAM Team is proud to annouce the June 2009 release of the NAM. :) The NAM Team members have been working hard to add new features, extend the current ones, and fix various bugs as well.
What's new?
- Canal Addon Mod (CAN-AM) plugin has been added.
- GLR-in-Street puzzle pieces plugin has been added.
- Wide Radius Curve plugin for streets has been added.
- New FAR intersections have been added.
- New GLR-in-Avenue puzzle pieces have been added.
- New GLR-in-Road puzzle pieces have been added, including modular GLR-in-Road roundabout.
- New FLUP pieces have been added, such as Avenue and OneWayRoad ramps and underground intersections.
- All GLR puzzle pieces have been modified to minimize the "crash to desktop" bug.
- Two new Underground Rail puzzle pieces have been added.
- New Ground Highway Y Interchange has been added.
- New Data View plugins for improved traffic map have been included.
- Traffic Plugins have been updated.
- There are now separate NAM Controller files for RHD and LHD versions of the game.
- Some RUL, texture and pathing errors have been fixed.
Please note!As usual, there have been some changes in the file layout; this time, you have to take extra care of the NAM Controller installation. Since there are a few puzzle pieces that need different RULs for LHD versions of the game (i. e. UK and Japanese version), there is a special
LHD NAM Controller included. In the installer, the first option in the list of components is a selection between RHD and LHD controller. The LHD option also installs the Left_Hand_Version_Plugin, which is still mandatory. Please make sure that you delete the old NAM Controller (NetworkAddonMod_Controller.dat) from your NAM installation folder! This can be done by either uninstalling the old NAM first, or by using the included Cleanitol file.
NAM EssentialsThe current NAM Essentials have the same files that are included in the June 2009 NAM, so you don't need to download them. If we find some RUL bugs over the next few days, or if optional NAM plugins will be released/updated, we'll update the NAM Essentials as well. Like in the NAM Installer, there's also a new option to select between RHD and LHD controller. We also created a special file called "NAM Controller Version Marker", which will add an icon to your highway menu (with the NAM Logo on it), and if you hover your cursor over the icon, it will display the version number of the NAM Controller. If it displays an error message, you should check your NAM installation.
The error message is not completely fool-proof, since it can't detect any instances of older NAM Controllers that are loaded after the NAM, but if you follow the troubleshooting guide in the NAM "ReadMe first" document and add some "z" in front of the NAM installation folder name, so it will load last, you should be able to override most older controllers that might be hidden in your plugins folder. We also decided to include both an installer for Windows users and the individual DAT files for Mac users, this should solve the issue for those who were not able to "juice" the previous installer properly.
The CAN-AMIn the NAM installer, you can select between two canal styles (SimGoober's and Callagrafx'). Since the NAM doesn't contain any lots, the ferry terminals for the canal puzzle pieces will be released separately by the BSC. The release will be very soon, but at the moment, only lots for SimGoober's canals have been made. So for the time being, select "SimGoober's canals", if you want to use the CAN-AM.
New Data View ModsThis NAM version includes modified Traffic Volume Data View Mods for all Traffic Plugins. The proper Data View Mod will be installed when selecting a Traffic Plugin. There's also an optional Zone Data View Mod included which makes it easier to build and query your mass transit stations. The mods were provided by z, for more information, please refer to the included readme file, or the support threads that z created.
FLUPs and T-RAMChrisim has updated the initial postings of the FLUP and T-RAM threads, so you should read those again for getting the latest information about those NAM plugins. Both items got updated with additional puzzle pieces for even more flexibility.
And now, have fun with the new NAM! :)

THANKS!!! &apls &apls :) Can't wait to try, especially the new features like CAN-AM
Congratulations, guys! I'm unable to play the game right now - but once I get it back, I'll be happy to take this out for a spin!

Nice to hear you were able to help minimize the CTD issues with this release! Great job! I can't wait to try out some of these new features!
I am pleasantly surpised to see a release so soon after the previous one ;D.
When you say "minimize" (I would say minimise) - do you mean "eliminate" or "reduce"? I guess I will find out soon enough for myself.....
Wooot another NAM SWEEEEEEETness!!! Thank you all and for sure this will hit the Podcast
joelyboy911: I believe that means Reduced.
Anyways Great work, and good to hear of the new release. I've patiently been awaiting to try out the CAN-AM. Thank you for all your hard work.
I have the older N.A.M. and also the S.A.M., R.H.W., H.S.R. and additional bridges. How i need to install the new N.A.M. without having any problem?
Just follow the directions in the Readme file. "$Deal"$
Great work! I hoped to see T-RAM diagonals in new NAM, but I see, a have to wait longer ;)

Nice to hear you were able to help minimize the CTD issues with this release!
This means that most GLR puzzle pieces shouldn't cause a CTD anymore, but a handful of them can't be changed that way, so you still need to be careful.
Hello and thank you!
Did you ever calculate how much money all players of SC4 have not spent on buying new games, just because the NAM makes SC4 still worth wile?
It must be a lot!
Pityfully I have to wait several hours until I can play with it... And then still: only if my little son (see the new children thread) is nice and quiet I will have time....
QUESTION!
Can I use both canals included? I happen to use both. ;D
Fantastic news :) Thanks a lot :)
Have converted over and everything seems to work great. Have picked the " Z_Low " this time and have run about 15 of my cities with it for about 8 years each and everything is just peachy. Thank you for your great contribution to this little game. &apls

No, you can't do that at the moment, since one puzzle piece texture is replacing another. Also, there are no ferry terminal lots for callagrafx' canals yet, so you should install SimGoober's version.
On another note, I've reactivated the old NAM Update versions. Those are intended for players who already have the previous NAM version (the
March 2009 version in this case) and don't want to download the full package because of the size. The update is about 50% of the size of the full version. We intend to make better use of the updates in future, this means we might be able to release new NAM updates every month or two, depending on the development progress. Future updates should be even smaller this way, so you don't need to download a 15+ MB package all the time.

I really love the new FAR stuff and street curves :) Thanks!

Thanks z, i follow the directions and no problem ahead
This time i didn't install only the new abilities but i also give a try to a new traffic simulator. I test the Simulator "A" in Easy Difficulty and i can tell you only this:
Traffic problems solved!!! &apls &apls &apls &apls
An another brilliant job from the N.A.M. team, as always :) :) &apls  ()stsfd()
Can you make the CAN-AM optional, it seems you cant untick it....(windows update installer)
Also, after using it, it seems that none of my cities will open.
Well, it is difficult to say which new feature I like the most. I think for me it is the various FAR intersections, which will enable more non-orthogonal road layouts.
omg omg omg omg omg omg FLUPS FLUPS !! FOR ONE WAY ROADS OMGAWD :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-\ :-\ :-\ &hlp &hlp &hlp
okay...
back to normal..
why is the glr on street not the default maxis street???
and why are there no underground avenue flups...
The Avenue FLUPs ramp uses the normal road pieces to make the tunnel, the underground sections are for road, one way road and avenue.

Can you make the CAN-AM optional, it seems you cant untick it....(windows update installer)
This is a weird glitch I wasn't able to resolve. If you run the installer, it should be unticked, but if you change something, it suddenly gets ticked, maybe because
of the script that makes both styles mutually exclusive. If the files get installed accidentially, just open your NAM plugins folder and remove the CAN-AM files manually.
Quote from: Dexist on June 22, 2009, 07:27:16 AM
why is the glr on street not the default maxis street???
Because the default Maxis street textures need to be updated for the puzzle pieces, which wasn't done yet. They will come eventually, though.
The lots for the CAN-AM terminals and automata are now on the LEX.
Once again, the NAM shows that if you had to choose one plug-in, it'd definitely the one not to miss! Great job on all the new additions, can't wait to see what future updates hold!
:( Why are we not allowed to use both canals and only choose one?
Because we don't have ferry terminals for CAL's canals yet. ;)
In the CAN-AM thread I also wrote about this.
As I plopped all the ferry terminals.I found out that the CCPW medium terminal has no water texture. All the others are OK.
Did I do something wrong, or is there something missing in the lot?
Stupid me! Forgot to copy a dependency. ?=mad)=
Just when I thought I had it all! :P Thanks guys! &apls &apls &apls
Thanks for this new update!!!  &apls
Where can I find a mod that can change the elevated heavy rail's viaduct? I have seen some pictures but I can't find any aside from those in the NAM installer. I want a modern look for my El-Heavy rail. :)
&apls <- That is all I need to say.
Update noticeThe NAM Team was busy to fix the bugs and issues that were reported over the last few weeks. Naturally, a mod that is as large as the NAM might bear some bugs all the time, but we'll try our best to fix them all. ;) Apart from an update of the full Windows and Mac version, we have created a NAM Update installer that only contains the files that have been changed. It's about 30% of the size of the full version, so that should ensure a faster download, and also less load for the LEX server. :)
What's new?
- Some pathing errors for the Ground Highway Y Interchange and the gentle Ground Highway Curve have been fixed.
- GLR plugin has been fixed.
- OneWayRoad Arrow Reduction plugins have been fixed.
- CAN-AM plugin has been modified slightly.
- Some Rail texture bugs have been fixed, SFBT Darker Rail Texture plugin has been updated.
- NAM Controller has been updated, NAM Controller error messages in various languages have been added.
- NAM documentation has been updated.
DownloadDownload NAM Update for Windows (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1425) (Installer)
Download NAM Update for Mac (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1424) (ZIP file)
Update InstructionsDo not uninstall the current NAM! You need the June 2009 version as a base, so if you don't have that one yet, get the full version. We have updated those as well, so you don't need to apply the update afterwards.
Windows users: Simply run the installer and select all components that you have installed already. The installer will overwrite the old files.
Mac users: Extract the ZIP file and replace the old files with the new versions.
I assume that this also fixes the RHW bug (wrong b-type exit)?
thankyou very much :)
Yes, the RHW RUL bug should be fixed as well. Alex will publish a separate RHW update soon, since some more issues were reported lately.
Great great great, thank you for the quick update. I need my precious RHW4 B-exits in that one particular direction ;D Thanks.
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for my question.
Is there a zip file available with all the traffic simulator plugins for the latest release of the NAM?
And yes, I realize that the simulators would need to be kept somewhere other than my plugins folder as only one should be used at a time.
I downloaded and installed the June 2009 release and used the custom install option that let me select a specific simulator. I would like to be able to change the simulator without doing another installation if that is possible. I didn't see this covered when I checked the NAM readme but I may have missed something.
I did find a zip in one of the development threads for one the simulators but see that the specific simulator that was loaded by the installer was a bigger DAT file with a later date than the equivalent file in that zip.
Thank you in advance for any help with this.
jmelvin
jmelvin: You should be able to download the Mac version (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=852) and take what you need from that zip. (Regardless of whether you have a PC or Mac or whatever.) I've done the same thing myself before.
If you replace the traffic simulator, be sure to replace the Volume Data View with the matching one as well.
Thank you, Splime, for that fast response to my question. I was in the process of posting my question in a more appropriate thread (The NAM Issues thread at http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=1444.0 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=1444.0)). By the time I had done that you had already answered my question. I'll go download the MAC version.
And thank you, Z, for your comment about the Volume Data View. I hadn't thought about that.
jmelvin
Added comment: Here is another item to check when chnging the traffic simulator: the Census Repository Facility file for Ripplejet's Census Repository. His readme states which one to use for the various traffic simulators.
I don't have a question, issue or any such thing.
I just want to say a HUGE (and I mean HUGE) thank you to the NAM team for all the work that they do.
When I saw the update for additional bridges and you included a SUSPENSION bridge for MONORAIL I nearly came unglued. Fantastic! I'm already planning a new, extensive monorail network including these snazzy bridges. :P &apls &apls &apls
If I could buy each of you a drink, I would. :D
Thanks,
DJ
@all who are using the nam tool: Please update to the latest version! It is now availlable:
Windows: http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1914
Mac OS X (Universal): http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1912
Cool tool there, GoaSkin, but I don't know Chinese. :D
Anyways, here's another tool for the Mac collection, the NAM Installer for Macintosh. Posted about it over at the NAM: Development thread, but I'm starting to realize that's for development of the plugin itself. :P
Bugtracker (http://scdirectory.ismywebsite.com/bugs)
Download (http://scdirectory.ismywebsite.com/proj/NAM-Installer-For-Mac-0.9.1.zip)
And thanks to GoaSkin for suggesting a few extra features I put in there. ;D
InfoI don't own a Macintosh, but it does support shell scripting, which is used in this script. To run it, open up a terminal and assuming it's been downloaded to the desktop:
cd ~/Desktop
Or the download folder (if I understood the manual correctly, it's:)
cd ~/Download
Extract the files and make sure you have the NAM Loose Zip (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=852), it's named NetworkAddonMod_Mac.zip and it's in the same folder as the script. Then run:
chmod 777 NAM-Install
./NAM-Install

Registration for the LEX is separate from forum registration. You'll need to register on the exchange and be logged in, in order to see the download button.
