Well for a while, I've constantly had game crashes. Just annoying.
I start building my city, always with plopables first. No problems at all. Then, I start with growables.
After a while, my city crashes to desktop.
The first few times this happens, I thought I should just delete every bat, lot, etc.. delete all cities, and start over again.
Once I re-installed most of my bats, I started to play again.
And yet again, the crashes started.
So I figered that it had to be dependance, perhaps. Started mass downloading every single depandence package I could find.
didn't work.
Then yesterday evening, while I was laying in my bed, I came up with this idea.
For example;
You have 2 buildings. Both contain a growable and a plopable version.
They both go in seperate folders.
And, they both have 3 files.
2 of these files are called; 'Growable', and 'plopable'.
This is for both the buildings.
The 3th file is called either building 1 or building 2. But both have differend names.
Now, my question is; Does this causes ID conflicts that results in crashes?
Thanks!
PS. if anyone has a suggestion I could try out to stop the crashes, please let me know. ::)
Keeping growable and ploppable lots in separate folder should not cause ID conflicts. They should already have their own IDs and it should not matter where in the plugins folder they are placed.
As for what might be causing the crashes, there are a number of things that could do it. First make sure, if you use the NAM, that you only have one copy of each of the NAM files in your plugins (it doesn't like having multiple versions of itself). Second, what are you doing when the game crashes? If you are plopping something, is it a puzzle piece? Moving those over Transit Enabled lots can cause a CTD. Whatever detail you can provide about what is happening when you crash would be helpful.
The last time it happened, which was yesterday evening, I was plopping Goofyguytpa's MP low wielth series.
And just before that, I was working on a suburban area, which was all growable.
Is there a way I can check on multiple versions of NAM files?
edit; now I think of it, it also happened when I started to work on a sport area, which arena's etc. That was just after I was done with plopping Goofyguytpa's MP low wielth series too.
edit2; Just tested those MP series. Nothing wrong with it. I had the game running for 15 minutes or so, and no crash.
So I think it must be a growable building, or the NAM things.
Did a cleanit run, but couldn't find mulitple versions of it. If there's another way to check, please let me know.
Thanks for any help. :)
Glowbal, I'm having the same problem as you are and it's very irritating. There doesn't seem to be any reason for it, my game just randomly decides that it's had enough and crashes to desktop. It only started happening about 2 months ago and I've cleaned out my plugins and downloads to see whether there was a problem there, but nothing! I did a clean install of the NAM to ensure that there weren't multiple versions or an old controller and no luck. My next course of action is to uninstall, clean the registry with ccleaner and reinstall; adding my plugins in small groups - maybe the core files are corrupted? I just don't know what else to do.
Mine too. I've just decided to save every few min.
It's funny (NOT) but I am having CtD's quite a lot lately even after I reinstalled the complete game.
My game crashes sometimes during play even when I am not plopping anything.
Imagine the following situation: Sunday morning, prior to a family breakfast I start up the game (it takes about 20 miutes to load), I select the city I like to play in and turn the monitor off. No other software is running, no virusscanner is active. When I turn the monitor on after 45 minutes to play, the game is gone, Crash to Desktop! Now I did the same at lunch, only then I did not let the game run, but pauzed the game. Guess what, no CtD! Maybe one of the newsitems is corrupt I do not know. What are your thoughts community?

Glowbal, ElPhantasmo69, Driftmaster07 and NikNik: First, are your processors with one or two cores? If they're with two, I think I have a solution for you. First, start the game. After it loads, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the Task Manager. Go to the processes tab and find the "SimCity4.exe"
Right-click on it and choose "set affinity".

Remove the tick on the box "CPU 1".

Click on OK and now your game won't crash randomly (while scrolling or zooming). It might lag a bit, but I guess you'd prefer this than crashes ;) Hope this helps you!
There is also this tutorial here [linkie] (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5060.0) that can work
