Title: Large City Tiles & Industry
Post by: Dreamcat on July 29, 2009, 06:44:57 AM
Hey, I have a problem.

I want to use the mega-Eaton map--right?  And I'm using it--but I don't know where to put my dirty industry and manufacturing.  When I start the region, there's a big demand for that and I give them their own city -- but then later on the ID and IM demand goes to the floor.  And it never goes back up again.  So I'll be stuck with a dirty town only a quarter of the way full (because it's on a large city tile, and there are ONLY large city tiles, and I don't feel like changing the config.bmp).  So what do I do for the polluting industries?

have you got a neighbor connection to a city with only Resitential (or are there Residents in the specific city?)

Yes, I'm just guessing they're too intelligent to work there.  Should I make them dumber?

If you're using the SC4 model (ie not faking it with plops and etc) the most common problem BY FAR is players trying to make everyone and every city RICH.. problem is that in order to function properly, about 80-85% of the workers have to be "poor".. this doesn't men they have to be slums (though that can provide large numbers of workers and lots of tax income) but you have to find some way of "holding them back".. dumbing them down is probably the easiest way to do that.. I have a full city tile for "low end workers" (illegal aliens? ;) ) that has a steady education of about 40.. works out fine.. and as many have noted, it can be fun to exercise your creativity in making a picturesque "slum"
