Title: Infuriating Bugs
Post by: freedo50 on August 27, 2009, 02:58:09 PM
Hi all,
I've been playing for a short while and I've experienced two weird bugs. The first I haven't got a picture of an can't explain, so I won't bother with that here. The second, however is absolutely infuriating, and involves the zoning tools. I am trying to build a terraced city into the side of a relaively shallow slope, using 15 m terraces for NAM-patibility. However sometimes when I zone a R$$ zone with one side touching the edge of the slope between two terraces, the land will become stepped across the last tile of the zoned area, the slope, and the first tile of the next terrace down/up. This is driving me absolutely mad, and I've never seen it before. I'm using the Italia terrain mod in case that is relevant.

Thanks for any help,
Fred

I believe you can "lock your slope" by placing a ped plaza on the slope (or other slope-conforming lot) .. It is annoying .. :(

To zone without getting odd terraforming issues in the process... use the CTRL button.

There are a few cases where this method may fail... specifically if you decide to zone individual plots on slopes... (e.g. if you zone many 1x2s individually the bug may occur but if you zone a big 4x2 and let 1x2s grow by division the bug may not occur.) Also letting tiles regrow may cause some issues.

It's been awhile since I've actually done a lot of mountain zoning (the terraforming bug annoyed me such that I normally do not build on sloped land anymore) but I may give it a test tonight.

OK, well I haven't played enough since your suggestions to be able to try any of them, and the reason for that lack of playing is the "first bug" I mentioned in my opening post. I've tried my best to apply some logice to getting rid of it, but it's appearance seems to be entirely random and totally annoying.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi7.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy251%2Ffreedo50%2FHELP.jpg&hash=bf9aad13dd7c97141f296b7de7a6cf35c44d9f5d)

This happens sometimes (but not in any obviously replicable pattern) when I save and quit to region, or even sometimes if I just save and then quit to region without saving. It defies all of my attempts to remove it, and I'm absolutely at my wits end now. I really hope someone can shed some light on it, as I can't bring myself to rebuild my plugins again.

Thanks in advance,
Fred

EDIT: I realised today that this only started happening recently, and so set to thinking about stuff that I'd changed recently. After a while, I realised I'd changed my Crossfire settings, so I opened up ATI's Catalyst Control Centre (ridiculous name eh?), and disabled Crossfire, and went back into the game. And it works! Looks like SC4 doesn't know how to play nice with Crossfire...

This is a general tutorial on zoning that you may find useful

And this is more specific to your complaint

Thanks for the links SC4BOY, both gave me some interesting and useful tips to remember.
