Title: Consultation needed for a new CAM guy
Post by: luckrecio on August 28, 2009, 03:10:20 PM
Hi,

I don't know if it is a bug or what but the problem seems to very unnatural, if I'm thinking correctly. I don't have any other mods installed, just some prop sets for custom lots. So, before installing CAM everything seemed to be OK, but when I started to use it, I'm facing this problem: I have zoned all city with high-density residential, commercial and industrial zones, everything started to develop nicely. As I played, demand grew. Little by little all Dirty industries were replaced by I-M and I-H, all zones became built-up. And now, when all this city tile is zoned, no development occurs at all. The demand is superb, except for R$, CS$ and I-D. I checked desirability: everything is totally green (there are really many parks, schools and hospitals placed). Traffic is normal, almost perfect, no any pollution, enough fire and police stations, a seaport, some landmarks. And here: city size 35k and do not change, buildings are little and poor (largest buildings are just about 1000 jobs/residents), nothing happens. However, if I place insanely many recreation zones (I mean really insanely many), then 2 or 3 buildings develop just very close to that spot and then again everything stops. And this is happening all over the city at all types of development. Surely, everything is nicely powered and watered with some margin.

The only clever explanation I thought of is that my city is the first one in entire region. Do you think it is the main problem or I don't know something? Has anyone else faced similar problems?

I would grateful for any comments of this thread.

I understand you've only played one city so far... is it small, medium or large?
If it isn't large, then you've probably faced what I faced early on as well... there are no empty zones remaining in your city.

With CAM you will need to let your city sprawl out to the sides before you will see any considerable growth upwards.
In other words, start a few neighbouring cities and grow some low-density suburbs in them.

When you return to your main city after that, you will see taller buildings (higher stages) appear. ;)

A medium city. OK, I can try that. However, I have built some more cities in other regions without CAM and they developed nicely even without neighbours. I understood your point. Thanks a lot.

Yes, that's one of the features with CAM... ;)
Each higher growth stage requires a larger regional population compared to what Rush Hour required.

That way it becomes somewhat more realistic.
It isn't very realistic to be able to grow an isolated skyscraper city sized 4 km².
A scyscraper city in real life needs a lot more sprawling suburbs around it.
