Title: Gas Exchanger
Post by: RadicalOne on August 30, 2009, 05:44:53 PM
It's a gas exchanger, designed specifically to reduce air pollution, much like a water purification plant reduces water pollution. This technology, while as yet undeveloped in real life, is making its first baby steps. If balance is an issue, I can make it add to the water supply whatever it takes from the air, as a city big enough to need this would have a water treatment facility anyways.

Its stats are as yet undetermined, but it will have a significant but not huge effect over an area identical to the SC4 Water Treatment plant's area. It will be expensive - though not as expensive as my "Hyperspace Garbage Disposal" or "Dyson Sphere Antenna". It will go under the "Park" category, but park effect will be 0.

Before I move on the the .sc4desc, how is the BAT? Keep in mind this is a draft render.

The yellow piping could do with a slightly different texture, something with a little variation.

Have you tried the Bitmap Animation Builder? This would look really cool animated.

Edit: I just noticed another thing: You can see one of the yellow pipes through the fan, I recommend cloning the gray bit, and flipping its normals, that way an interior will show. If you need more of an explanation of this, I am happy to give it.

I can do these.

How would I do this? I like the idea.

BAB is a little finicky... I have figured out how to use it, but I'm not sure I can explain it.. lol.

First, it has to be in GMAX I believe, not Max. But once you have the model complete, I could probably animate it for you pretty quick. Let me know and we can email back and forth...

Can you try?

I do use Gmax. The only thing I have from Autodesk is Maya 8.5 PLE.

That is a possibility, but it would, in all likelihood, be easier for me to learn the technique - these gmax files will easily overrun hotmail's 10MB limit.
I would also like to learn so as to be able to apply the technique to other models in the future.

Using the program isn't difficult.  My problem (if you call it that) is that I still use the BETA version of the program, as I tweaked the seetings to make it work for me.  The final version was released  here  (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2082) on the LEX, and there is a support thread for it as well.

I never really looked at the release version, so you'd be better off reading through the thread and there is a help manual as well.

Thank you.

EDIT:
It won't run...it is failing to find a file "C:\gmax\gamepacks\BAT\scripts\TB2Main.ms", so I made one.
Now the damn thing says "file already exists".

LOL... I remember when I got the BETA version, I had several "issues" with file names.  Overpop san doesn't speak engwish vewy gud... lol... so I had to do a lot of experimenting, and eventually made it work, though I think is was more blind luck thatn anything.  When he released the final version, I was afraid to even try to start over again, so I stuck with my jerry rigged version...
