Title: Loading Time
Post by: Maxim1110 on September 21, 2009, 08:56:06 AM
Hello,

I've been experiencing a problem for a while now, but with every mod I install it gets worse and worse. This problem is the loading time when I start up SC4. Usually, I have to wait for around 15 minutes with a black screen before I finally get the intro etc. Now I have spoken to my father about this issue, and he said the problem might be that My Documents(where everything is stored) is on a network location, and loading all those files through a network may be slow. I have already tried moving the whole SC4 folder from My Documents to a location on my own hard drive and putting a shortcut to it in My Documents, but that didn't work, as the game just created a new folder for all those things. Would it be possible to move ONLY the plugins folder to a new location and put a shortcut in place? Or are there any other possible solutions to this issue?

Anyone who responds: thanks for the help!

You can move your plugins folder to C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Plugins. (the folder where you've installed the game) If it still loads slowly, you can DatPack your plugins and/or remove the ones you don't use. Good luck!

What is datpacking and how do I do it? I am experiencing a delay as well, but not nearly as bad as 15 minutes.

Thanks

datpacking is basically compressing your plugins. You need to use Wou's Datpacker (found on the LEX) to do it

The discussion is not related to the site's loading times so I move it to the appropriated section  ;)

Thanks for the help.

Just curious.......the DatPacker readme file says to download 3 .dll files but when you click on the link it takes you to Uniblue Registry booster. I don't want to buy a program, I already have a program for my registry clean up. I just want the .dll files. Does anyone know where I can get just the .dll files?

This (http://www.dll-files.com/) site usually has them all, never experienced not finding a DLL at that site. Good Luck
