Title: Request: Replacement of UDI Fire-fighting Plane
Post by: hkboondoggle on November 15, 2009, 06:18:33 AM
This is a sudden whim which sparkled in my mind when I was watching an amazing video showing the wonderful UDI jetliner created by Joelyboy911  &idea: "How about a replacement of the ingame fire-fighting turboprop?"

Well, I'm thinking of something that surely looks much more decently than the current crappy one; something like this:

P-3A Aero Star FireFighting Vechicle
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi528.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd322%2Fhkboondoggle%2Fp462.jpg&hash=7cb51d28612321533ae9f7e05ac78f0579475fff)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi528.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd322%2Fhkboondoggle%2Fwaterdrop.jpg&hash=183efdf37082aa92a39902547e9037a61313f346)

However, this request would certainly need the knowledge of automata modeling & modding, which very few people do master, so here I come to see whether if the "masters" are interested in this requisition. Thanks. ;)

Searching the STEX gave me this:
http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=20138

It isn't in the same livery as the pictures you posted, but it's better than the Maxis ones.

Thanks Emgmod, although I am aware of the presence of that pack you've mentioned. No offence to ja/att, but well, I am not satisfied. (I admit I'm kind of greedy, okay?  $%Grinno$%). Thus my request still remains.

Oh, Lol. Didn't notice that was FSX for a second. But, there is no way to model props as UDI or automata. Just way too many pixels or something (pliotdaryl answered this question asked by someone a while back).

Hmmm... Props cannot be transferred to UDI or Automata because they have too high of a Poly count... (how many Polygons are in the Model)

If you were to ask someone like Srainy, who has been releasing Aeroplane Automata on the STEX, he might just be able to make you something.

Good luck with your request,
Adrian.

Driftmaster07, thanks for your reply, but perhaps I didn't make myself clear.

My request is not ask someone to convert this FS2004 P-3A model into automata; (btw, good guess Driftmaster07  ) & I am aware of the fact that there is no way to model props as UDI or automata. I am just asking if any experts would like to create something from scratch that would look like the plane in that photo, in other words, having a similar effect.

I came across this idea as Joelyboy911 has successfully convert the jetliner Props made by Srainy into great looking UDI vehicles (somehow it works), proofing that making a decent looking UDI plane is, or at least in theory, possible; and therefore I am also asking if any one would like to give it a shot and try this concept.

(Srainy and Joelyboy911, if you are watching this, would you please give a comment or two for the sake of proof, or disproof, of concept? Thanks.)

And thanks Adroman, I guess I really need some luck in this.

Best regards,

Hey hkboondoggle. If someone could give me a low poly model, I could try to figure out how to texture it in an automata kind of way. Then, I certainly could mod it into a UDI-able plane.

So basically, Joelyboy911, what you mean is that the vital key of this request is whether if somebody agrees to create an appropriate low poly model, or grants the permission of using his finished creation. If the answer of the above question is "yes", then there will be a way to realize an UDI firefighting plane or any kinds of planes preferred. Am I correct?

Btw, just being curious, what kind of firefighting plane is being used in Australia & New Zealand?

To answer your first question: "yes", though, when I replaced the firefighting plane with the 747 model, 2 things happened. First, the shadows were no longer cast by the plane, and second I was not able to make the plane drop water. I feel fairly certain there are ways to overcome these problems, however.

As for your second question, I don't know. I think helicopters are mostly used. However, large outbreaks of fire are rare in New Zealand, on account of our very wet climate.

Sorry for the late reply, people.

Well, if that is the case, then Adroman, may I have a link to the freeware website you've mentioned in your Air Force Project post? Because I would like to have a look on that miracle site by myself. Thanks.
