Title: are there still any PPC-users? PPC-Support required on Macintosh tools?
Post by: GoaSkin on November 24, 2009, 03:49:49 PM
Hello,

up to now, the NAM TOOL comes as universal binary and uses the Carbon version of the QT library. Universal binaries are very big and if the program supports the PPC (G3, G4, G5) platform, the latest version of QT cannot be used.

For future versions I could either still compile universal binaries using carbon with the old library or make cocoa builds for Intel only. But that makes only sense if a big majority of the Mac users use Intel machines now. The binary would have less than half of the size and be much faster.

So I ask here if there are many users with old machines or not.

I still use a G5, running Leopard. Played SimCity since it came out for the MAC.

I use a PPC iSight running Tigger. Can't afford a new machine so here's where I am. I run NAM version 29 and while it slows my game when I access the transit tools, I have adjusted to it. No other issues.

Digging up an old thread that wasn't that far down the Mac list.  ;D
Yes, I am still on 2002 Quicksilver 733Mhz G4, OS X 10.4.11

But whether that still matters is probably moot today.
