Title: The SFBT Advent Calendar
Post by: Andreas on November 30, 2009, 03:09:56 PM
It has become a nice tradition at SimCityPlaza to offer an advent calender in December in order to shorten the time until Christmas. :) The SFBT members have been working diligently on new BATs, lots and mods, so each day, you will be able to open another "door" of our virtual advent calendar, filled with a small treat. I will upload these shiny new items to the LEX as well, so you don't have to figure out any strange German site. ;)

December 1st is just starting here in Germany, and item number one has been uploaded to the LEX:

SFBT Red Tower (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2280) by Temroc

The Red Tower (Roter Turm) is one of the landmarks of Chemnitz, Germany, and the oldest building that still exists in the city. It was erected during the end of the 12th century. The name is derived from the red sandstone that is dominating the tower. Until the year 1900, the tower and its annex building was used as the city jail, which is also the reason that it wasn't destroyed during the early 19th century.

The classic 500 ml bottle of the East-German dish detergent fit has been designed after the shape of the tower in 1968, since the manufacturer VEB Fettchemie Karl-Marx-Stadt produced this product in Chemnitz until 1967. The Red Tower is older than Dresden and Berlin, and also older than Chemnitz itself. In 2007, it was selected as one of the figures for the German edition of the game Monopoly. This download contains two slightly different lots, one with flower boxes, and one with seasonal trees and shrubs.

Im Moment wohl eher noch als Nikolaus. ;)

I hope you liked the first goodie, here comes number two:

SFBT Pond Plaza Set (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2282) by T Wrecks

This little set was created to make proper use of the wonderful pond props that SimGoober has created - they haven't been used on lots very often so far. The set consists of three lots which were designed after the Maxis parks and plazas: The lot sizes are 1x1, 2x2 and 3x3 respectively, and they have a positive influence on residential and commercial development. The icons are neatly grouped together in the park menu.

The properties of the lots in this set place them somewhere in between the Maxis flower gardens and plazas, since they are paved, but also feature more greenery than the Maxis plazas. The water consumption is a little higher due to the ponds and fountains, though. All trees and flowers are based on prop families, so no two lots look alike. There are sims walking across the plazas, making them more alive as well. The lots are not slope-conforming, though, as the water would leak from the ponds. ;o) You can place them on slopes, but they will level themselves.

Apart from using the lots individually, you can also combine them with the NAM pedestrian malls or other plaza lots to a more complex arrangement. The 3x3 plaza has a diagonal symmetry axis and works well next to corners, or in diagonal layouts. The download contains three different sets of lots, one basic set with Maxis trees, a deluxe version that makes use of the tree prop families from the SFBT Street Tree Mod (please make sure to install the additional dependencies, if applicable), and a version that features the chestnut trees by SimFox.

$%Grinno$%

I really like the old tower, which is very beautiful! It'll be good in my city!
The idea from the SFBT to do present during the advent. I find it nice! We did the same thing in german at school! $%Grinno$%

Mhh, chocolate!

Thanks for all the compliments, I'll pass them to the other team members. :) Meanwhile, here's door number three:

SFBT Rue Bourdon 1 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2283) by N1_2888 and voltaic

A fictional Parisian residential building from the Haussmann era, whose origin is based on the spleen of the creators, using BATs with commercial services or offices in the lower floors only for commercial zones. Buildings with shops or offices that are designated as residentials in this style were rare to find so far, so this download is supposed to relieve this shortage, providing more cozy living space in ground floors as well.

As for the name, let me tell you that during the development phase of this building, the color pink and a certain female moderator in the German SimForum (which is showing a certain affinity to this color) has played a somewhat important role. The name that was chosen is reflected on the right wall, which is showing a mural with an advertisement for a very popular animation movie in the Sim world where bumblebees ("bourdons" in French) play an leading role.

The lots in this download only grow in the Euro tileset, stage 6 and above, on a 1x2 tile lot in medium density residential zones. They have room for 145 medium-wealth sims. For using this lot at T-RAM roads, there's an optional extra lot that lacks the overhanging props on the front side. More information can be found in the table below.

Door number four - not as fancy, but nevertheless useful. :)

SFBT Warehouse (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2284) by Tolsome and Sam Johnson

You can find them in basically every industrial area: warehouses of all sizes and shapes, often not very pretty, but always functional, and during delivery hours always very busy. This download contains two slightly different 4x3 lots, which offer 119 I-M jobs each. The model was done by Tolsome, and Sam Johnson picked it up later for texturing, nightlighting and the lot design.

Yes, I will release one item per day until Christmas. :) Today we've got an oldie, which was released ages ago at the STEX, one of the first BATs by Mathe Man, created way before the SFBT was founded. For the LEX, the lot has been revamped, and another lot (the water pump) has been added.

SFBT Geothermal Power Plant and Water Pump (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2285) by Mathe Man

The geothermal power plant is a small plant with a capacity of 400 MWh for a cost of 38 § per month. The rather high plop cost of § 27,000 is balanced towards the life expectancy of 120 years. Using a natural power source, the pollution values of the geothermal power plant are very low. The water pump that is contained in this download has the same values as the Maxis water pump, but a more European look, based on the building for the geothermal power plant.

Title: Re: The SFBT Advent Calendar
Post by: Andreas on December 05, 2009, 03:07:33 PM
Something big? Maybe. ;) But not the Dubai Mall - not European enough... Well, today is Saint Nicolas Day, and kids in Germany (and other European states as well) get a small treat from St. Nicolas (which basically is the model for the American Santa Claus; the name is derived from the Dutch Sinterklaas) if they were nice. Naughty kids only get some coal and a rod.  :P Let's hope the SC4D kids were nice thoughout the year, then they might enjoy the following treat.

SFBT Charlottenburger Tor (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2286) by praiodan

The Charlottenburger Tor (Charlottenburg Gate) formerly marked the border between Berlin and Charlottenburg, which was still an independent city back then. The current shape of the gate was established around 1910, when the Charlottenburger Brücke (bridge) was built across the Landwehrkanal (canal) with a width of 55 meters. The erection of the Charlottenburger Tor in baroque revival architecture took another two years and originated in the representational needs of the wealthy city Charlottenburg. The Charlottenburger Tor is the western counterpart of the famous Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate); both are connected via the Straße des 17. Juni that runs through Berlin's Tiergarten park.

This download contains two different lots, a 8x2 version that is transit enabled for avenues, like the real-life counterpart in Berlin, and a 7x3 version that is intended for using together with the BSC Park Series. The park paths can be connected seamlessly to the BSC Park Series lots, and the path textures change automatically with the path texture set that you have installed. Both lots can be found in the landmark menu, grouped together with the other SFBT landmark lots.

Well, the weekend is over already, and I was busy to pack upload number seven. You might remember voltaic's wonderful Swiss farm buildings - now they come in diagonal shape! :)

SFBT Diagonal Swiss Farms (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2288) by voltaic

These three farm buildings are diagonally oriented and placed in a way that they can be build seamlessly next to a diagonal road. Apart from that, the models are identical to their orthogonal counterparts. You can find the 1x1 lots in the landmark menu with overhanging buildings in the landmark menu, directly above the orthogonal lots. The icons are marked with a "D" for "diagonal" in the upper right corner.

This week is "voltaic week", so here's another one of voltaic's great Swiss BATs. :)

SFBT Craftsmen House (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2290) by voltaic

This craftsmen house was erected in 1777 in Herzogenbuchsee, canton Bern, Switzerland. Unusual for this time were the relatively large windows that were selected by the owner, a hosiery knitter. They provided ample light for the working places inside the building. Today, the house can be visited in the open-air museum in Ballenberg.

This download contains three different lots; one 3x2 growable residential lot that houses 30 R-§§ sims, an identical landmark lot that you can plop yourself, and a 1x1 landmark lot with a diagonal version of the building model. If placed properly, it will align with a diagonal road seamlessly.

Yet again with the nice buildings. I really like the Geothermal power plant & water pump, the Tor, and the new one... It is nice to see a good selection come our way. I am not really particular of diaganols, but I definately use the originals for the Swiss farms, and enjoy the fact there are now options open for others that use the diagonals. I myself would prolly use em' eventually, to at least check them out... :)

Great work through and through. &apls

Snow on the roof, you say? Well, it's not christmas yet... ;) (http://www.olyana-design.net/sc4/winter03.jpg)

And tamorr, in case you don't want to use the diagonals because of the somewhat bland appearance: They are mainly meant as filler lots, for creating a nice compact village. Personaly, I don't use ploppables at all, but as fillers, they do the trick just fine and provide a good supplement for the growables.

Today's little present is a nice set of small chapels, again created by the skilled voltaic from Switzerland. :) (Note: I changed the layout of one of the lots a bit after taking the screenshot, so they don't show the same tree, but a different one.)

Small Chapels (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2292) by voltaic

Esp. in the Alpine area, small chapels that only hold slightly more than a handful of people can be found everywhere. Here, the devout members of the surrounding farms and travellers are gathering. The small church "Maria Hilf" is located near the Ludescherberg mountain in Vorarlberg, Austria. The second model in this set is a chapel in Leutasch. I modelled it after a watercolor painting by Oliver Lindauer.

I'd have to agree with you on that, as I don't use too many plopables myself, although there are acceptions, like the stuff along the non-functional canals I tend to use.. and in general the rural modular parks that can be made to look similar to a national or state park... Although using them as fillers is an interesting idea, that never really dawned on me.. I tend to use a lot of different fillers for Diagonals... and in general. Definately like the variety.

Looks like another good one here, like the rural look it has... :)

Well, if you looked closely at the pic posted above, you might have noticed some buildings which haven't been released so far. So the next door of our advent calendar contains this little gem (as with the chapel lots, I changed one of the trees on this one as well, in order to create some more variety):

Crummy Shed (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2295) by voltaic

A magnificient wooden shed, a little decayed - and as the icing of the cake some moss on the roof. This download contains two different lots, one orthogonal version, and one that is slightly angled. Apart from the moderate plop cost, the shed doesn't produce any other expenses, as it isn't really maintained anymore anyway. If it collapses some day, only a small bulldoze fee has to be paid. But be careful, such wooden constructions tend to burn down occasionally.

SFBT Tobacco Barn (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2299) by voltaic

Especially in the western parts of Switzerland, esp. in the regions Payerne, Yverdon-les-Bains etc., tobacco barns are a common sight. They are used for drying tobacco leaves, which are still grown in the region, and finally used for tobacco products in the factories in Neuenburg. They belong to this region since a long time, as well as the tobacco harvest, which is often supported by teenagers that want to brush up their pocket money during the summer holidays.

Ah, well you can go to sleep before you upload the lot if you want to, you don't have to start up your pc just for us. Also, is it just me, or is practically all of this stuff made by voltaic? Ergo, will we also get stuff made by other people? Not that voltaic's stuff is that bad.

Yes, worse are some lots released on the STEX, worse are several Maxis things, there are plenty things worse. I perhaps shouldn't have used the word bad, my intention was saying that your work is good, but that you shouldn't be the only one responsible for the Christmas production.

Well, after returning home from the party (It was a very nice evening! :) ) and recovering a bit, here's the treat for today - this time not another voltaic BAT. ;) As I said a couple of days ago, I was preparing a "voltaic week", mainly because voltaic created a whole set of nice farm BATs. But of course we have other things in stock as well, so the following one might be a welcome change for you. Actually, you all know the building, but I guess not that many have ever used it, because it didn't really fit into their cities, or it was just not unlocked because there weren't enough water tiles. What I mean is the Maxis cruise ship port building, which was used by Nardo69 in a different context... :)

SFBT Nardo's Toy Emporium (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2300) by Nardo69 and T Wrecks

Nardo's Toy Emporium offers all kinds of toys, but is specialized in model trains. The owner supplies the SimKids (and often also the SimDads) with the most detailed and wonderfully designed accessories you can think of. He's also a critic for several model train magazines - and dreaded among model train enthusiasts! His waking eye doesn't miss any wrong signal and no wrong railroad crossing... This toy store grows in the Chicago and New York tilesets, on a 4x5 stage 1 lot, or as 4x4 and 4x3 lot in stage 2 and 3, respectively, offering 65 CS-§§ jobs each.

Korot, it was the use of the word that that caused the issue.  By using that you were saying it's "neit echte slecht" (excuse my spelling, I can speak it, but never very good at writing it) you should have just written 'Not that voltaic's stuff is bad'  ;)

But I think he knew what you meant.

And guys at SFBT, great work on these, keep it up.

A while ago, I showed you a sneak-peek of the following set, and after many hours of lot designing and modding, it's finally here. :)

SFBT Church and Cemetery Set (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2301) by Andreas and Khiyana

When Khiyana created her wonderful props and textures for German cemeteries, I was planning to create new church and cemetery lots for SimCity 4, since the Maxis ones never really met my taste and looked a bit boring as well. This set contains four different church and three different cemetery lots, which are available either as additional lots to the Maxis ones, or as a mod that replaces the Maxis lots completely.

It wasn't easy to find suitable replacement models in the proper size for the Maxis churches, but finally, I found four churches: the Village Church by voltaic, Bosham Church by Mntoes, Usakos Church by Colyn and the Stiftskirche by Haarlemmergold. Please remember to install those four churches and the other dependencies that are listed below, otherwise, the lots won't show up properly, and you'll get the infamous brown boxes.

For the German grave props, Khiana created some HD props that show additional details in zoom 6. All graves are part of a prop family, which will create some nice variety, as well as the seasonal trees by Cycledogg. Two cemetery lots feature a small chapel, created by voltaic, and a few watering cans and a well, just like any German cemetery looks like.

The file "SFBT_Maxis_Cemetary_Church_Mod.dat" contains a mod that replaces the Maxis churches and cemeteries. If you want to use this file, you don't need to install the rest of the lot files (but you'll still need the dependencies listed below). If you want, you can also install the separate lots, in that case, the Maxis lots will stay, and you can build the new churches and cemeteries along with the Maxis ones. I suggest to use the mod only in new cities, otherwise, you should bulldoze your Maxis churches and cemeteries first before installing this mod, and replop them afterwards.

Thanks to Colyn, Cycledogg, Haarlemmergold, Khiyana, Mntoes and voltaic for their wonderful BAT models and props; without those, this set wouldn't have been possible. :)

Definately a lovely addition to the seasons gifts. Although I prolly would not have minded if the cemetary and church replacement mod were separate... As Church & Cemetary respectfully. I personally prolly would use the cemetary replacement, but not so keen on the church replacement... This is doesn't mean I wouldn't use the churches, as I would rather use em' alongside the maxis ones per say... Just my oppinion on that one. :)

I really lovingly adore the Toy Emporium, as it is a nice ideal addition as well.

Post by: Andreas on December 13, 2009, 04:37:06 AM
Thanks, guys!:)

@tamorr: Yeah, I could have separated the mod into churches and cemeteries, but then again, I designed the lots to be used together, and each cemetery lot matches one church lot (same wall or hedges around etc.), except the additional church, which is a bit different. I guess you can recognize that idea on this overview pic:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fthumbnails%2Ff8b6556178ca705de940c23bc708d55b.jpg&hash=30cd1f0ee37303875866931e6b0eb6e49096792d) (http://www.ld-host.de/show/f8b6556178ca705de940c23bc708d55b.jpg)

But if you really want to separate the lots, you can open the DAT in the reader and extract the relevant exemplar files and icons (they are clearly labeled, so you can manage that with minimal Reader knowledge).

Every evening this month (until the 23rd), Andreas spends his free time to finalize and upload the SFBT Advent Calendar contribution, and on some days (like yesterday), he spends much more time than the evening only. We (the other SFBT members), we would like to say a big THANK YOU to you, Andreas, for your time and dedication for SimCity 4, the SimForum, the SimForum BAT Team and also to SC4 Devotion.
You are a real Devotee!  &apls

For today's upload, I am glad that I could help (but Andreas had no free Advent Sunday because he created the installer):

The SFBT Simple Tram-on-Street Stop (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2303)

is a simple GLR/tram and bus station for the tram-on-street, new in the NAM of June 2009.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsc4devotion.com%2Fcsxlex%2Fimages%2Fbeximg%2FSFBT_Tram_on_Street_Stop_01.jpg&hash=d274008e7c5c3c20a8289dbd33957d2c83d4d9aa) (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsc4devotion.com%2Fcsxlex%2Fimages%2Fbeximg%2FSFBT_Tram_on_Street_Stop_02.jpg&hash=ff11fc00af595492eafac96669df82154a62c90e)
It fits well into most city environments due to the minimalistic design. The tram stop is only one tile long. If  you use long GLR/tram automata, don't place the station close to a junction. Dependencies: Network Addon Mod and SFBT Essentials (see Readme for links).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg522.imageshack.us%2Fimg522%2F1092%2Ftramstop1.jpg&hash=2a175e98bbf9a1a4d8cc8f2aa3491a56c0f229f5)
The included file z_OptionalHighCapacity_SFBT_TramStreet_Stop.dat is for users of high capacity traffic simulators. Simply move it into the folder SFBT\Tram-on-Street Stop, if you need it.

SFBT Mayor Mode Ploppables (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2304) by Mathe Man, Khiyana and Andreas

Ploppable Mayor Mode trees have become popular recently, and developers quickly realized that the same method can be applied to any prop, so we also have seen ploppable bushes and shrubs, boats, coral reefs and even rocks. Small things like these are often used by city journalists in order to recreate the real world as detailed as possible.

T Wrecks created a wonderful city journal in the German SimForum, showing open lands with smooth hills and lots of agricultural zones. Even the smallest village gets lots of attention, and so every detail has to be perfect. One thing, however, was missing: realistic livestock paddocks! If you have ever been to any rural area in the world, the first thing you notice in a cow paddock are lots and lots of cow pats. Finally, this important detail has been recreated for SimCity as well. Simply open your Mayor Mode menu, select the SFBT cow pat and plop as many as you want. Other than their real-life counterparts, those doesn't smell, and they won't affect the ground water at all!

Over the time, additional Mayor Mode ploppables have accumulated in the SFBT labs, all suitable for a more realistic rural landscape. Mathe Man created some nice stacks of logs and firewood, a hide where hunters can watch for deer, a hay rack, and some beehives for the apiarists among us. Khiyana created some heaps of gravel in a test rendering, and they turned out so nice that we decided to include them into this pack as well.

It's nice to see that also the small, not so obvious things are appreciated - today, I've chosen yet another of those almost forgotten things that proves to be really useful in pretty much every city. T Wrecks dug up an old model by rp2005 (aka zero7) and created two nice lots for it.

SFBT Sports Pitch Set (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2307) by T Wrecks

This package contains two sports pitch that are based on RP2005's props. As far as I know, they were only used on RP2005's Ardnox School lot once. Now, they can celebrate their reincarnation as separate lots, either on their own, or combined with other lots in order to create larger complexes.

The smaller 3x6 lot provides only a sports pitch and a small path at one side. The larger 5x6 lot also offers a parking lot, a club house with snack bar and some tables, and a restroom facility. Feel free to combine the lots to your liking - next to each other, parallel or crosswise, and whatnot.

Thanks that is probably what I'll do with the Lovely church pack, as now a days I find myself modding things to a certian degree for my own private use. Mainly the growables as I prefer to change the tileset they grow in....

Anyways it is nice to see those cow pats again with more stuff included this time... Love the gravel piles and wood piles as well... I can find many uses to play around with them a bit on my landscape, when I am in that sort of mood.. &mmm
It is good to see quite a bit of the other stuff too like te sports complex and the one Chrisim released for you a couple days ago I think.... No matter the work here seems to be a steady  being pleased with every release. :)

You might remember the Plattenbau lots by Ch. P. and ArkenbergeJoe for creating large areas of highrise tenements - today's upload will be a nice addition to ArkebergeJoe's set of large lots that grow on 4x5 and 5x4 lots in particular. :)

SFBT Anlage Wohnglück (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2310) by JohnD and ArkenbergeJoe

The real-life counterpart of this apartment complex is located in Cottbus, Germany. In order to create a larger variety, I created three different models with different heights. The tenements are another part of the SFBT Large Lot series in European-Contemporary style, which is intended to create growable quarters with low-wealth highrises in the typical Plattenbau appearance.

This is another example of mass construction that is mainly intended for the general public, so the lots were designated as R-§. They grow only on high density zones, since you'll find this type of buildings in residential highrise areas in particular. The set includes buildings with 8, 6 and 4 floors.

SFBT Billboards (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2312) by T Wrecks

First off: The initial lot of this set is 95% oppie's work (from SCCentral / Simphoni). He had the initial idea, and his lot, which I found among my SC4 stuff, was the core of this new release. I simply changed the prop layout, matched the base texture to the street side, created a new icon and new LTEXT descriptions, and I changed the values a bit.

Then I added two additional lots, one freestanding sign, which looks nice next to roads and ground highways, and a lot with a raised billboard, attached between two poles. It's pretty unbelievable, but there wasn't a single pole that was suitable for this purpose among the Maxis props! So this lot requires the only dependency, SimGoober's mega prop pack.

All billboard lots produce a small income between § 1 and § 2, and they raise the commercial desirability a bit within a radius of five tiles. In return, the residential desirability is lowered a bit in the same area. Once you plop a lot, a random billboard prop will show up. If you don't like one of them, or if the same billboard appears twice, simply bulldoze the lot and try it again.

The lots will show up in the landmarks menu. Placement help: The arrow shows from which side the billboard can be seen. For the freestanding billboards, it should point towards the adjacent road, then the billboard will appear next to the curb.

SFBT Rail Viaduct Station (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2314) by JohnD

This station was designed and BATted for the Rail Viaducts from the Network Addon Mod. The lot has a size of 1x4 tiles; for building the station, you either need to leave room between your railway viaducts, or bulldoze them before plopping the lot. In order to prevent crashes when dealing with puzzle pieces and transit enabled lots, it's highly adviced to build the rail viaducts first, and then plop the lot. The station also needs road access at one side at leas

Well, I'm a bit late today, but I'd say the wait was worth the effort. ;) Today's upload is a huge one - containing more than 50 lots in total, with hundreds of hours spent on planning, calculating, modeling, lot making, modding and packaging. SFBT member exziviben started this project months ago, and now it's finally finished: the SFBT Urban Highway Set!

SFBT Urban Highway Set (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2315) by exziviben

Although the Maxis Highways were put on the backburner a bit by many players after the release of the Rural Highway Mod (RHW), they are nevertheless an essential component for urban transportation. Many large cities around the world have elevated highways running across the city, and in most cases, the (albeit not very attractive) space below is used in one or another way, since space is rare and expensive in metropolises. You might find underpasses, parking lots, billboards, bus stops and many other things.

With this extensive set that contains more than 50 individual lots, you can make use of the unused space below the elevated highways finally, even though most lots are only eye-candy (apart from the bus stops and subway stations). Especially low-wealth areas will look a lot more realistic, and it doesn't really matter if you simply don't use the space, or place some non-functional items in this area after all, does it?

All lots have minimal plop and maintenance costs, and they have only a very small impact on the vicinity, so you can use pretty much as much of them as you like. There are both orthogonal and diagonal lots, including a variety of special-purpose lots, i. e. for highway onramps, underpasses, curves, on-slope puzzle pieces and many more. You might get confused by the diversity at the beginning, and some features might be not that obvious on the first glance, but with some trial and error, you should be able to overcome the obstacles soon.

That's fantastic Andreas!  &apls
RHW is very popular and it deserves it for sure. But RHW can't replace "regular" highways in every case. These empty spaces unedr raised hoghways always were a big problem and now it is solved
Looking at this set I have a strange feeling some of these lots can be used not only under highways, but also in another, more original configurations  ;). I will try them as soon as possible!

Fantastic job on these...has anyone tried using them on elevated RHW as well yet? And if they do not fit with them..any chance we might see a elevated RHW version one day?

Useful doesn't begin to tell how I feel about it .Especially since Maxis Highways are the majority in my region.

%confuso ...   Wow That is a nice set, and I can already see the greatness it has. I have been always wanting something for the Maxis Highways beyond what may already be out there that could be used to some degree. I also must say I love the station posted earlier as well. Both are lovely additions to my city planning. I see a lot of the team is really hard at work with many great things coming out for this special month. Much appreciated. ()stsfd()

Wow, quite a few comments in this - thanks, guys! :) And to answer your questions: Yes, it should be possible to use the Urban Highway Set for other elevated networks as well, as it's just props that extend the lot borders. Needless to say, it will work best with two-tile wide setups. Surely a lot to experiment in order to find the full potential! As for said "flower walls", those are Mathe Man's slope reinforcement lots, which I haven't uploaded to the LEX yet, apparently. You can get a German version here (http://kurier.simcityplaza.de/details.php?file=394), though, and I think they're included on the LEX DVD as well.

Today's upload is the continuation of a classic SFBT project, the Hamburg W2Ws by stephenhh. Enjoy!

SFBT Hamburg Hansaplatz (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2316) by stephenhh

This download contains two modern residential buildings. They are part of a larger residential neighbourhood located at Hansaplatz in Hamburg, Germany. With a fountain and linden trees, the Hansaplatz is a central square in the quarter St. Georg. For several years an area of questionable reputation, it is now developing again into a prime address, and this fact is reflected by the buildings included in this download.

This is my favorite upload from the SFBT advent series so far. Thanks so much stephenhh, Andreas and the SFBT.
By the way: does this mean that stephenhh has returned to BATing? Or did he never retire and I have missed something? My SimCities rely heavily on his Hamburg buildings. Keep up the good work.

@Girafe: Well, I won't spoil the surprise, but I'm pretty sure they will show up at the LEX eventually. :)

@alj: No, stephenhh never retired from BATting, but due to the ubiquitous RL issues, development has been somewhat slow lately.

Anyway, since Stephen's Hamburg W2Ws seem to be very popular, here's another one of them!

SFBT Hamburg Neustadt (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2318) by stephenhh

This download contains a brick residential building at the street corner of Rehhoffstraße/Herrengraben in the southern Neustadt of Hamburg, Germany. It is part of a larger residential neighbourhood that stretches around the block to Martin-Luther-Straße.

Rail crossing signals, eh? We'll see about that. ;)

Christmas is approaching pretty fast now, and I'm about to wrap up the final gifts. voltaic has been pretty productive this year, so here's another Swiss farm building!

SFBT Ostermundigen Farm (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2319) by voltaic

This baroque farm building is located in Ostermundigen, canton Bern, Switzerland. It was built in 1797, after the predecessing building burnt down. When creating this BAT, I left out the colorful front, since the original facade was grey, in order to appear like a noble stone building. So it's not entirely a true recreation, but it fits better into the set with my other farm buildings.

Apart from a growable lot, this download also contains a ploppable version with jobs, and a diagonal version of the building on a 1x1 lot, which has been designed in a way that it will show up right next to a diagonal road. You can find the ploppable lots in the landmark menu. The icon for the diagonal version is marked with a "D" for "diagonal" in the upper right corner.

When I lived in Berlin in the beginning of the seventies I was a young child and my parents gave me an Adventskalender. It did contain small pieces of chocolate on some days. It tasted good. The SFBT calendar does not, but it contains more goodies for the grown ups.
Every year I await the new calendar with curiosity. Pity it's almost christmas already...

Thanks people from SFBT!

Sorry Andreas i thinks the model inside the zip is the wrong one . I think they are the  same as the diagonal swiss farm. No name in the LE as
Ostermundigen Farm . Can you tell me if i`m wrong please, thanks
Title: Re: The SFBT Advent Calendar
Post by: Andreas on December 23, 2009, 06:27:17 AM
@Kimcar: I have checked the download, and it's definitely the Ostermundigen Farm, both in the English and the German version. There is a diagonal version of this BAT included as well, though, maybe you mixed them up? In LE, they show up with their German names (Bauernhaus Ostermundigen).

@Fresh Prince and FrankU: Well, the advantage of the SFBT advent calendar is that you won't gain weight due to all the chocolate - but then again, your plugins folder gains said weight, so I'm not sure what is better. ;)
Title: Re: The SFBT Advent Calendar
Post by: FrankU on December 23, 2009, 06:59:19 AM
Andreas, my pluginsfolder's weight is a good kept secret, but it's quite a lot.

Another weight problem can arise if we all play the game instead of playing a kind of sport. Sitting at our desks and playing Ruler of the Cities can result in undesired objects around waists and hips.

I thought it wouldn't be such a good idea to miss Christmas Eve dinner with my family, so it got a bit later than expected, but here's the conclusion of out SFBT advent calendar, another three goodies uploaded to the LEX! Thanks for all your nice comments, and I hope we were able to find something interesting for everyone.

SFBT Fritz's Farm (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2320) by voltaic

Like the other farm buildings that have been published before, this one has a real counterpart as well. It is owned by a family I know, and during a visit and my interest in my previously created BATs, this model was the result. It is located in a small village in canton Bern, Switzerland, right between some other farm buildings (and yes, every single item has been recreated properly ;-) ).

Over the years, the living area has been modernized a bit, as you can see at the skylights in particular, and the building now offers enough space for two families. This building also shows the classic design, with the former stable directly attached to the living area. Together with the obligatory geraniums at the windows, it creates the atmosphere of the typical farm buildings of the Berner Oberland and the surrounding area.

SFBT Wind Power Plant (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2321) by voltaic

Wind power plants have become a common sight in Germany and other places as well. Although they are not always received well by the locals, they have become one of the icons of renewable energy sources, although the priniciple of using the wind is several thousands of years old already. Modern wind power plants produce up to 5 or 6 MW each and are up to 200 meters tall these days.

SFBT Water Towers (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2322) by voltaic

The real counterpart of the water tower that is pictured on the left side is located next to the railway station in Köthen (Saxony-Anhalt, Germany). Today it's no longer in use. Due to the rise of the railway transit hub in Köthen about 100 years ago, it was decided to built a water tower, which took about one year to complete (from 1911 to 1912). The water tank has a capacity of 250 m³ (66,000 gallons), and the tower is about 30 m (100 feet) tall.

The tower on the right side is based on the water tower of Markranstädt, near Leipzig in Germany. It's a bit smaller than the real counterpart, but looks like a typical water tower in Germany, like they can be found everywhere in the country. And although they are relatively old, many of them are still used, even though some of them only serve as mobile communication tower these days.
