hello again - i'm taking a break from big skyscraper cities and am trying my hand at small towns, so i'd like to have some smaller industrial lots. i have all the industrial starter packs and all the other cam industrials; can i use other industry downloads? pre-cam is stages 1-3 right? can i use any of them? let me know - i have a bunch of non-cam industrials on my old computer and it'd be super easy to copy them over. thanks in advance! DeeCee
Of course you can use any industrial lots that you may already have. Your best bet would be to use SC4PIM to update their stats accordingly though, to make sure that they don't interfere with the smooth progression of your Industrial zones. Check the User Guide first, then if you still have questions, let me know.

ok - have downloaded the sc4pim program and the user guide. i scanned the guilde quickly before i print and read it in full and my question is this: what stats am i updating? i didn't see anything about cam in there but am thinking what i need to do is under section "Making changes to the exemplar properties (otherwise known as Modding a lot)" correct? i'm going to read it all but just wanted to make sure i'm focusing on the right section. so, if you would, please point me in the right direction for the stats to be changed and what they should be changed to. Thanks for your help. DeeCee
That's the one.
Once you recompute with a proper filling degree, the modding is taken care of automatically. Then you'll just need to update the Growth Stage of the lot, and you're ready to go.

Nate, in the release version that is taken care of automatically when you recompute the building. ;)
Just be sure you do click the
Save button, both for the building and for the lot. :)

great - at least i know i'm in the right place. so what's the proper filing degree and what growth stage should i set buildings to? is that a choice i can make or are there some standards? let me know and thanks! this should be fun because there are a few buildings i absolutely love but they aren't campatible yet. i won't do too many - just the ones i love to see in all my cities. DeeCee
I would suggest that you read the section on Filling Degree in the User Guide to SC4PIM. The Filling Degree will depend on the building examined and its LODs. SC4PIM shows the LOD box so you should be able to make a reasonable estimate. Ripplejet has also explained about Filling Degree in the Support thread for SC4PIM here: http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=9279.msg286183#msg286183
thanks BarbyW - i STILL haven't had a chance to read the full manual yet, but i will. i'll post a success story here when i see my favorite building grow in one of my cam cities - ahhhhh....the best of both worlds - here i come! HaHaHa - have a great day and thanks again. DeeCee
i'm so very proud - following the user guide, i was able to easily update my favorite building - here it is! now - i have to ask; is there a limit to the number of buildings you can convert?

Of course not. ;)
what do you think of my stats? i used a .73 filing degree (i used your formula - i think it was 1.00 x 1.00 x .85 = .7225. that gave me an occupancy of 485 at stage 13. i'm not sure what stage the original building was, but it had 350 occupants. it's a 3x1 lot growing on high density - i thought it would have more occupants and be at a lower stage, but i left everything at the figures the program calculated. do you think these numbers are reasonable?
Sounds reasonable. ;)

You probably meant 1.00 × 0.85 × 0.85 = 0.7225 :)

thanks for that - there are a lot of times i get the right answer and am not sure how i got there ;D
anyway - i'm downloading medium density commercials and residentials - none are over stage 6. i shouldn't have to update those using pim-x should i? or is it recommended to recompute when the lots aren't camelots or campatible? will i get that much more capacity? let me know - i'm going to have a nice selection of small town stuff soon. If the buildings have a filling degree close to 0.50,
recomputing would give roughly the same capacity and growth stage.
However, there are certain other properties that might be off,
e.g. the water consumption and certain pollution values.
Recomputing would also ensure that all such properties are correct. ;)
Okay - all is going well, and i won't be providing updates as i go :) but i am running across some questions i can't find answers to in the guide. if they're there and i just missed them let me know.
can you choose the density a building grows on?
some of the files are named like r$$3 and after the recompute it may have changed to a different stage. how do i change the file name? can i just right-click and rename or do i need to edit it another way?
those are the only two questions i have so far - i've successfully converted a couple buildings so thanks for the help. DeeCee
In order to change the filename, all you have to do is doubleclick on the lot's exemplar name, and change it to match the stage. When you hit save, the filename will be changed automatically as well.
Not sure about the density thing though. Try doubleclicking on it.

okay - i'll right-click for the filename and will try it for the density also - hopefully it will work. two last questions (for now :) )
- i like buildings that grow on all tilesets - is there any danger to changing all the lots that i'm recomputing to use all the tilesets?
- i downloaded some stage 3 or 4 lots but didn't recompute them, but now i'm realizing i should have. if i go and recompute them do i have to bulldoze the buildings that have already grown? will they update to the new figures?
let me know and thanks!
Double-click, not right click.
No danger, except they'd probably grow more often, which is probably what you want.
You don't have to worry about bulldozing the old ones, (as long as you're dealing with growables). They'll update automatically the next time you start the city. Although any Occupant Groups you add (like the CAMelot OG's, though not at these stages) will only show up for new instances.

ok - so i double-clicked (and right-clicked for good measure ;)) on the density lotconfig line but nothing happened. if you think of anything else for me to try on this give me a holler. the double-clicking worked just like you said it would on the rename part. thanks! DeeCee
The density updates itself automatically when you recompute.
Residentials and Commercials are set to grow on low density if they are less than 25 m tall.
If they are over 100 m tall, then they'd grow only on high density.
Industrials grow on medium density if they are growth stage 1-5, otherwise only on high density.
I really need to read that User Guide huh? (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk301%2Fditareinvented%2FYoYo%2520and%2520CiCi%2Fyoyo199.gif&hash=2da70f7feb291efb921c40d20304dc1ba82ee71f)
i truly did read the guide (i keep it on my desk actually to refer to) but i wanted to change the density and i don't think i saw anything about that. anywho.
the stuff i recomputed doesn't seem to be growing in my cities as often as the non-recomputed stuff. sound reasonable? i don't do any of the steps after the "making changes to the exemplar properties" section - nothing in the "tidying up and advanced stuff using ilive's reader). it says it's optional so i didn't do any of those steps.
do you think that could be causing my recomputed items to not grow? i'm zoning correctly, using the right density, tileset, am in the right stage and have the proper demand. why won't my downloads work darn it?! ()what()
thoughts?
They will work. It's most likely just a coincidence that they haven't been growing until now.

you were correct o-wise-one
my next question is sorta related in that as i said, i'm working on small towns and don't need the cam skyscrapers. would it be okay to remove say the model files for the cam files? that would free up considerable space after i datpack the rest of the files, but i don't want to do anything that's going to cause errors in the game. what's the worst that could happen? let me know. Thanks! DeeCee
The worst that would happen is that you start seeing brown boxes in place of the buildings if/when they grow. So there's no danger.
