hi all,
ive been using a region over the last couple of years based on a real life area that i got from google earth. i used an old link on simtrop. which directed me to a tutorial on a sim railroad site on how to create
a region from google earth. everything worked out great and i love my region but i based most of the transportation on real life, which is not working out in simcity so i would like to restart it.
however, there is no jpg file in my region folder. i only have city files, the config.bmp and the region.ini. am i missing something here or what? its been so long since ive tried to start a new region
and i forget. i thought jpg files were clicked on to start the forming of a new region?
is there a way to create a new region without a jpg file? i dont even remember how i made the region i am using now and how i got it to work with no jpg.
forgive my ignorence and any help is appreciated! :)
Well, surely there must be a way to find the empty terraformed cities back, but I cannot tell you how.
Another possibility is to blow up all your cities one by one. Then you could use the "extra cheat.dll" to reset date and money.
There are some disadvantages: I remember that somehow the cities still keep some information form the blown up city and also the slight terraformation by flat tiles, sunken highways, raised bridges etc are kept.
So I guess it is not really good to do it this way, but if everything else fails....
I would keep a backup of your region though, including all plugins.
There are two easier options, both using SC4Terraformer.
- Load your region on SC4Terraformer and export a png image of your region, then use the same prog to create a new region importing that png file.
- Load your region on SC4Terraformer, if the programs locks your cities, unlock them by unticking them on windows that pops up when start the program, then raise terrain 1 meter. That will erase your map completely, you can them lower the terrain again and save. (This option I'm not 100% sure). In any case, make sure you back up your region before attempt this.
My advice, even if it gives you more work, is the first option. ;)
thanks for the input.
i think im going to try frankus method just because its easy, also cause i dont have the sc4terraformer yet. i dont mind the terraforming that remains as it was ok and i can change it a bit as i go.
i am wondering though, as franku mentioned that some info may be kept even after blowing up a city. is this just terraforming info or actual city stats? i would assume
that all stats would be reset to 0 (ive demolished the cities already and stats are all 0) but are there still some hidden stats that may be kept?

Even if you obliterate the city completely, you cannot reset the date and all the data achieved by the city until then. I advise you to export the map and start a new city.
oh, thanks rayden. well maybe i should take the time to do it right then. i will try what you recommended and hope it will work out alright. thanks for all the info.
