Title: Traffic Mods????????
Post by: MattyFo on December 13, 2009, 06:59:09 PM
someone had mentioned to me in the forums that there are mods available to make cars remain on the roads for a prolonged period of time.  I'm sure you all have noticed that the vehicles in the game would always apear and dissapear after being on the screen and also they disappear whenever they arrive at an intersection.  one of the main reasons i play this game is to make realistic cities and once they are reasonably developed i like to fix the traffic issues and such.  I would like to be ablke to see traffic jams and major congestion.  anyways if anyone has come across this mod i would LOVE to know where to get it!!!

Thanks in Advance!

When you are installing the NAM, there is a selection for Automata.  Select the 24h version.  I believe the vanilla version is selected by default.

You also need to change your ingame graphocs settings to high in order to see more automata.

i see, would i have to unistall then reinstall the NAM for these changes to take effect, and if so would i have to rebuild all of my previously made roads and such? i already ran the install again without uninstalling and didn't notice much of a diffrence.  vehicles still dissapear all the time :bomb: >:(

Or simply download the MAC Version of the NAM, which is all of the files, without the installer, so you can switch out any files you wish at any point in time, without having to uninstall/reinstall the whole thing.

No, if you re-install before running the game again, you should not have a problem with your networks.  Every time you update to the newest NAM you do this and there is no effect, unless you run the game in between uninstall and re-install or some legacy files from the NAM have been removed.

But, you would be re-installing the same NAM and there are no changes, so you should have no problems.

Remember, you have to change the Automata mod installed.  You might want to use the Radical one which makes a lot of traffic visible.

ok i will try that.  just so i know what to expect..........have you done this with your? and if so do vehicle stay on the roads for a prolonged period of time even during u-drive-it?  I want traffic jams and and to see major backup so i can see what projects need to be done first hand.  Not just goign by a few red line in the Data map.

I have done it in the past, every time I tested something new for the SAM and I switched out old files.

Yes, with the Radical version of the Automata, it adds many more cars to the roads compared to what you currently see and the traffic is visible 24 hours, meaning all the time.  If you select the "Standard 24h" version, you will see roughly the same number of vehicles, but throughout all 24 hours of the game day not just at peak times.

"Also, there are some mods of the automata controller file out there that will show more automata and for a longer time (there's even one that shows them from start to end of the travel route)"

this is what some guy had writen to me in another thread.  I'm hoping to find a mod where vehicles don't disapear AT ALL! i don't know if i am in over my head or not but according to this dude, it is out there, and i will find it!!  DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THE MODS IS THAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT AT THE END OF WHAT HE SAID????

Which thread?

I don't know if you will ever get cars to never disappear.  The Automata Controller has a number of variables and one or a few (can't remember off hand), deals with the length of time the vehicles are able to travel.  Basically a timer for how long they simply drive around for. With Automata, I do not believe they have specific start/end locations in the way you would expect, like leaving a driveway and travelling to a specific job location.  You can however extend the life time that they exist and increase the number of them.
