Title: Changing a CAM Farm to stage 3
Post by: clearlypowa on December 23, 2009, 08:36:14 AM
Hi there,

I have installed all the farms from BLS and Colyn. In the folder, I have some farms that grow only with CAM, like the BLS IR4 ferme réglisse, and the BLS IR4 ferme Aniss.

So i open Reader, and change the Growth stage from 4 to 3, change the "capacity satisfied", to have less workers, reindex lot config, and save as the 2 lots.

Question :
1/ Are these the only modifications i have to do for the CAM farm to make them standard one ?
2/ the 2 new files i saved are "name.DAT", not "name.lot" like the orignal ? Do i have any chance that they grow in my city ?

err, I think it's a lot easier to do this using PIMX (aka the "X-Tool")

2) If the originals ended in .lot, you do have a problem, because they shouldn't, the are probably a .SC4Lot file. And yes, the reader saves them as .dat, but that is no problem, as a .dat file is just a container file and is also used by many other developers.

1) You only have to change the growth stage to make them grow without the CAM installed, any other modifications aren't necessary for them to function, though they might be needed for a more realistic and balanced game.

Korot

If you do not wish to use CAM why not just delete the farms that are over stage 3? If you make growth stage or occupancy changes to the farms they may end up unbalanced for the game and/or may never grow.

because some of them are really nice  ;D, and i don't want to install CAM. I am going to make only rural Cities

The farms as made for CAM are balanced for game play and changing properties may make them unbalanced meaning they could grow too often or never.
Installing CAM does not mean you have to make megalopolis cities. I frequently make agricultural/rural cites in regions - see my challenge posts for GRVII. CAM gives the opportunity to have big cities but does not mean you have to have them. CAM also, by allowing higher stages than the original, meant that we were able to provide higher stage farms. Read the CAM manual or the threads in the CAM Board to see how it works.

CAM Rural is in beta test, so you might wait for it to be released :)

PIMX is mean to compute stuff for CAM

As for modification in reader, I think there are enough, but as Barby pointed out, you might end up with unbalanced game
