Welcome to Aurora, a random region of networked cities. Rather than an official story, or some kinda of description, I'm just gonna cut to the chase, and throw out some screenies:

Just random shots, I'd like to hear some feedback ;)
....It's great not having to read a lot, ain't it? :P
Wonderful eyecandy that is Frankie. &apls
Maybe some photoshopping on some of those pics and you can easily challenge the participants of "SC4 picture competition". ;)
It looks like Atlanta!!!! :P but it looks amazing... sweet eyecandy ya got there &apls &apls

I agree completely with Bongoswimp. Either way, you might want to consider entering one of those into the picture competition (particularly the 1st, 2nd and 4th pics).
Great work!
Nice one ;) quinticentually american(hm did i spell that right) Well no time to look at a dictionary :P Anyways your cj is very nicely done
Great pictures and excellent custom content, but a brief thought on realism:
It's very unlikely that in RL, your downtown area is going to be surrounded by so much woodland and contemporary sprawl. If you put a bit of work into creating various levels of transition from downtown to sprawl (i.e. inner city, decaying industrial core, pre-1940s suburbs, etc..) this could easily be one of the best realistic American cities on SC4D.
To keep the criticism at a constructive level, I'll point out your amazingly realistic downtown area - you capture the spirit of modern American cities (Charlotte, for example :) ) very nicely.
Well, I guess I should update (I suppose you know by now I am a fairly informal CJer, but that's ok, right? Schedules and planned updates are just not my style).
i'd like to make some replies first:
Bongoswimp & meinhosen: I dunno, I play for fun not contest.. (no offense of course)
sEAhAwk fAn121: Atlanta is a little bit more Northernized than the city in this pic, but thanks!
jayo: thanks! of course, i don't go for a specific style, I just liked the way this city looks :P
pickled_pig: Thanks for the advice. I actually based this style (not a re-creation) on that of Augusta, GA . Most of the city is historical, so the skyline is on the rim of 'downtown' rather than actually in it. With this 'hanging' skyline style, the modern sprawly stuff springs up close to the city center. And strict zoning laws leave very large plots of woodland downtown (search Atlanta on Google, a skyline surrounded by nothing but trees). Anyway, thanks for the advice!
Alright, now for an 'update'

very nice building strategies! &apls can't wait for more.
that is very nice. love the mix of green with concrete. very beautiful. &smrt
Another EXCELLENT journal started. I found myself staring at those pictures over and over again. This is really, really, really good.
Ah... Its lovely to see you get a CJ going Frankie
All these images are all lovely... Having never been to the U.S. I don't know much about what cities are 'meant' to look like, but from what i know this looks very realistic.
My favorite out of all these pictures has to be thrid one in your first post. The way thew city sprawls looks very realistic.
Keep it up the excellent pictures.
Aurora looks great so far, Frankie! I just got caught up with both updates, and I must say that your building style is excellent. Like someone poineted out earlier, I love the mix of buildings and development alongside so many parks and wooded areas. Keep up the good work, my friend, and I'll be waiting for the next update!
Well, this is not a formal update, just a little teaser, formal replies and update soon:

Great teaser, Frankie! Can't wait to see the next full update!
excellent teaser!! &apls
hehe... looking forward to the update!
Hi Frankie ,
Great start and work so far ...
Sure I'll come back for the updates to come . ;)
Those previous two pictures were amazing and look like they could be of actual places. I'll be looking forward to whenever the real update comes.

Well, i lost and got back my plugins folder, but I am afraid to open the city i was gonna use to update with..however, I did start on something that may be of interest:

Interested? :P
btw, this is no where near complete, just showing the starting ..
Looking good, there, Frankie! You've even got the power lines in there! Can't wait to see more!
Frankie acctually made something good :P, nice work, it really does look like the south [[insert the red word here]] :P
Nice city, very green! The little recreation is nice. Can't wait to see more!
Here's another mini-update...the full one to be released soon.
Fairview Road (SC 55) and I-385 meet at this sprawly exit:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2FEufala-Apr.jpg&hash=220c1aed1523316a9c737c5528596d08d6fdbb13)
And of course the real one:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2FFairviewand385.jpg&hash=4a8e961a23c365265ae3cb584fc4f5423efe4224)
Awesome interchange.
Robin ()stsfd()
That interchange is lookign good, Frankie! I'll be looking forward to the next update!
A very high degree of realism there, Frankie. It looks like almost every third interchange here in the Charlotte area, especially as you go down towards Rock Hill or up towards Kannapolis and Salisbury. I'm most impressed by that interchange with the RHW... it's inspiration to try it out sometime or another in my cities.
Frankie,
This MD continues to be absolutely outstanding... I'm so sorry I missed a few updates. The interchange in the last screenshot is perfect... it's exactly what I'm trying to do with my own RHW overpasses. Thanks for the inspiration

I agree , It's the best scaled and so realistic interchange I've seen so far .Excellent !
Thanks for the comments! I'll get to replies in a bit...
For now I have one more pic to show off before my update:
Hillcrest High School, (Simpsonville, South Carolina). This area was nothing but forest 2 years ago, however it has been built up, quite a bit i'd say...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2FHillCrest.jpg&hash=ee13b70b81b5bd84b817d0881360fee48ebaac19)
As you can see I re-created it to the best of my ability...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2FHillCrest-1.jpg&hash=42c2ead3022be4be6cbc6365da52a71bf889c9d8)
Looks pretty accurate actually, nice work frankeh
Nice one ;D Love the RHW :satisfied:
Another great recreation there, Frankie! It looks very realistic. Great job!
Excellent recreations there Frankie! can wait to see the update
Great recreation there Frankie!
Sorry if I come back to your comment on the last page. Just wanted to tell you that the contest is fun. ;)
But I understand that you don't want to participate. Let's have fun here then.
I suppose I'll do replies now :P (I know I've had a lot of teasers, lol)
Dioangel: Thanks!
guurgkud: well, wait no more!
BadSim: Thank you very much!
Aaron (pickled_pig): Thanks! The real update is here, so I hope you enjoy it
thundercrack83: Yessir! an exact re-creation requires all elements of the scene ::)
Yoman: hehe..oh your funny :P
realdimension: Thank you!
Rooker1: It wasn't easy to recreate either ::)
thundercrack83: glad you like it :)
pickled_pig: Thank you for the praise, it really means a lot to me while i'm making this, and this interchange style seems to be very popular around here...
meinhosen: I'm very glad that you got something out of it
BadSim: I'm also glad you like it...took quite a while to measure all that stuff out for proper scaling
Glenni, thundercrack83 & Jayo: Thanks!
mjig_dudy: thanks for dropping by ;)
Bongoswimp: Ah well, I do not stand a chance it that contest i'm sure $%Grinno$%
Alright, I've turned my attention from suburban areas to more..docile environments. My inspiration was Lafayette, Alabama (my home state). The town has little changed since the late 1800's...with the exception of the Pinebelt Southern Railroad (from Lafayette to Roanoke Junction, near Opelika-Auburn, and a second line, isolated; from Nickolus to Hurtsboro, both in Alabama. Both segments have been abandoned :( ) closing operations to this town.
Anyway, here is that update:

Hope you like it!
The rusty flair of this city is really outstanding!
Believe me, you would have a chance. ;D
Looking good, there, Frankie! I love the railroad running through town. Great job!
wow, LOVE it!!
That's what I call a well done city! &apls
Wow, I love how in the third picture the railroad tracks enter a yard on the outskirts of town, nice work.
Perfect! What a great recreation of an old deep-South small town. You just need to add a [lazy] sheriff's deputy sleeping behind the grain elevators and everything would be true to life ;)
Um...
everything has pretty much been said here ,Frankie. But anyway, as Yoman i too like how the railway goes into the railyard
in the 3rd pic, you also have alot of nice little details which makes your pics seem alive
I figured I would let you guys in on my next update, so here is a teaser:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2FConyers-Jul.jpg&hash=a0ab9e1b1833d5db0d60bdf646ba886305c2698d)
I'll have a full update soon..if all goes well.
Wow. This town seems to have fared better than many other towns its size - looks like the downtown is still alive and running. I presume that picture was taken before Wal-Mart (and eventualy Target... and Lowe's... et cetera) came to town and destroyed its dynamics.

Most smaller towns such as this one do not have those types of big-box stores. Typically those kinds of stores grip the interstates, and throughout much of rural areas, there are no Interstates. So no sprawly messes, just local stores and such.
Anyway, I have an "update"
This is where Norfolk Southern tracks Interchange, just on the edge of town:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2F7.jpg&hash=e27569dcf8cf7555be70b0336d413a2c8ae98a28)
The Interstate, and part of the Industrial Park:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2F6.jpg&hash=429bd5332ef4ef0e322723526f7d9bcdd6a95d09)
The interchange itself, (as you can see, sprawl is taking effect already):
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2F5.jpg&hash=6be4180fd8d9847d06efc06c9c0b9470b46659e3)
Conyers Industrial Railroad connects with Norfolk Southern on the North side of town, and serves a few industries between that interchange and the South side of town:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2F4.jpg&hash=5ba33759888d064acf33af959a456ed7045cb3ad)
The Norfolk Southern and Conyers Industrial Railroad interchange:

Close-up of the East side of town:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2F2-1.jpg&hash=fdf32c51db94a648c79839dfd263a788109d554c)
A sprawly apartment complex just off the interstate:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2F1-2.jpg&hash=fd7910f6fa44d71585646b929a3319cbf1f375dd)
This was my inspiration (Opelika, Alabama). It has a preserved downtown, but with I-85 a few miles away, it has a sprawly side.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2FAriels%2FOpelika-Ala.jpg&hash=7941fc876952be6c430ac370236d8ae9471a7576)
Hope you like it!
Another lovely update Frankie! The RHW interchange works perfectly
Another fantastic update, Frankie! Your use of the RHW is outstanding, and I love your railroads with the NAM curves. Splendid job, indeed!
I liked the update.
The industrial and rural areas are really realistic &apls
However, I woulndt have to drive in your res and comm areas :D :D !!!
Great work on the town! I can't believe you got those condos from JaWood to grow... I've never seen my game grow them.
Can't wait to see more!
That's a wonderful update with great pictures!
Really has that small town feel :P
Nice use of rail, very realistic
&apls
thats awsome frankie!! i love the way you use your home states towns as your inspiration!
I have brought with me 2 teasers to let everyone know that I am still here
I have shifted to re-creating my old town of North Augusta, South Carolina. Particularly Exit 5 (Five miles from the Georgia border) just off I-20.
The real one features a Burger King here, but I substituted with a Mcdonald's, the Gulf is really a Shell station..And the Wendy's is actually a Hardee's...:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2F2-2.jpg&hash=f0d88ca1842718f0f3df4b169037a2d5f3f003c7)
Winn-Dixie (A future BAT from me) used to reside here, but due to a bankruptcy, many of it's stores closed down, and a Food Lion now exists on the old spot. (in jest, this Winn-Dixie is called Gypsy-Dixie or Winn-Gypsy due to the presence of Irish Travelers just down Highway 25/ Edgefield Rd.)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi91.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk294%2FFrankie_117%2F1-3.jpg&hash=ca8d54f3c8688b40988d391a1a97d66622feeb57)
I hope to have a "real" update soon..stay tuned.
The teaser looks great, Frankie! Can't wait to the big update!
That are beautiful teasers! Looking forward to that update!
I like how you do urban sprawl ... very nice.
I'm teased now! CLIMAX ME, DAGNABIT. ;D
Might as well bring forth and update, right?

Love the update, Frankie! That first picture with the railroad tracks and the farms is beautiful, and I love ponds and factories, too! Great job, my friend!
Wonderful Update! Great pictures of the farm area and fantastic factores, Frankie  !
It is very realistic ...
It isn't easy to remake a city of reality
Bravo &apls
really nice and so RL-like , Wish I know how to do so great rural landscape !
Lovelly rural areas and burbs frankie :P Kinda like shadow assasins kind of rural areas on a smaller scale ;D ;D
Frankie, I'm loving this MD of yours! What terrain mod are you using? I really like it b/c it makes everything pop! I like your downtown areas, and your rural/suburban areas are very nice! And some come from Alabama...even better!! Any chance you'll come down to the Mobile metro area? Anyway, I'll be watching this MD!
I really like your MD, Frankie. I love that country feel, the ponds, forests, farms, sprawl, factories, all mixed together - just right.
Sorry folks, but i'm not going to be active in the SC4 Community for quite a while, so I will bring you a pic i made earlier, I hope it's ok, don't expect any real ''updates'' until later this year..

(Ignore the Eufaula, AL in the corner, the real Eufaula looks NOTHING like this, I just needed a name.)
Sorry folks for not warning you that I would be away.
Thanks for stopping by!
Frankie i do hope that you will be able to get back from time to time and great md you have here
sorry to see you leave and remember we will leave the light on for you here - pat
Good stuff. It's unfortunate that you have to stop CJing, as your CJ has been one of the more realistic ones I've seen.
I agree with Pat as well - we'll leave the light on for you.

Enjoy these, no updates for a long time.
Wow, very realistic pics you have there, very southern. :) Do I detect some custom Lot-Editing in there? Good stuff.
I especially like the fences scattered about, fences are all too rare a sight in SC4, compared to RL.
We'll be waiting for your return. ;D
Hi Frankie.
I just stumbled upon this diary today. Very entertaining. I enjoyed looking through all the pages.
Super pictures of the train and surroundings, very nice small update.
Robin
WOW frankie that was an awsome update and i hope all is going well... cant wait to see more soon - pat
Very nice, I see your still working on that freight train mod ;)
Great new pictures! Also nice looking pictures of the train!
And you're back with an amazing update...
The first picture is awe inspiring - looks like something you might see off a rural exit on an interstate or right outside an isolated NC/SC town. A fireworks store would probably go very well in there - but I don't know if you're creating an area in which the sale of fireworks is legal.

Lurked here long enough. This is one of my favorite rural CJ's. The detail in the trailer park is absolutely stunning. Nice custom lot editing.

What happened to your Civil War alternate history CJ though?
Love the trains and the ploppable streams, my friend! Great work!
