Title: Dependency Help
Post by: Jonathan on January 08, 2010, 04:53:23 AM
(i'm sure the was a dependency forum somewhere wasn't there?)
Anyway I found at least forum sections that might be where I'm supposed to post this.
In the check_for_deadwoods_dependencies.txt Cleanitol File it says it can't find bsc_Essentials_OG.dat and the link goes to BSC essentials which I have downloaded and installed. So where do I get this file?
And I only wanted to download the SNM security fences (I'm now beginning to wish I hadn't) and it gives dependencies for all SNM lots! I just want the dependencies for the security fences.

Also some lots (with dependencies) have Cleanitol files, some don't. And once you've got all the Cleanitol files it takes ages to load each one into Cleanitol one after another, so is there anyway of merging them?

Why can't each lot have it's own dependency list and Cleanitol file instead of trying to get you to download the entire LEX?

I'm sorry if this post is ranting but it's exasperating having all these files. Maybe for the people who downloaded each file as it was released on the LEX it was ok because it was just one at a time. I'm just saying there has to be a better way of organizing this (Diggis' Dependency table is a massive help but even some downloads put dashes and spaces in which aren't there on the list, so you have search more manually and then you find 2 dependencies which have similar names and your unsure which one to download)

I'm almost at the point now where I'm willing to go through every lot on the LEX I can and add to the description a list of dependencies, with the exactly correct titles, for that file WITH links.

bsc_Essentials_OG.dat is installed as part of the BSC Essentials file and should reside in the root of the My Documents plugins. If you check your plugins and find the file then you can ignore the Cleanitol.
As for the SNM set, these were ported from another site and a lot of changes had to be made to the Dependency lists. You should find the dependency list for just the lots you want in the Readme which is installed for the single set
Like many of the older work on the LEX these needed a lot of work and I am afraid that the volume of work required to redo each Readme and installer was too much to do. The fences I think you are referring to are a set made by deadwoods rather than the original set and so reference deadwoods' own Master List and Cleanitol file. You would do much better to check for yourself in SC4Tool for the dependencies. I have just done that, it took just a few minutes, and found that the only dependencies for this set are:
BSC Park Base Set - for the alignment arrows
SNM Security Fencingv2 props - installed with this set
BSC Textures Vol01
BSC Textures Vol02
BSC Essentials are always required and if you have the updated version at all times you can safely ignore any Cleanitol errors - this may be as a result of incorrect or outdated filenames.
I am sorry, Jonathan, but we simply cannot check and correct the many older files found on the LEX. The DVD and CD solved some of these problems as Readmes were updated for them and all BSC Dependencies were included.

so bsc_Essentials_OG.dat is inside BSC Essentials.dat?

I agree it is a huge amount of work, and can see why its not been done, but even just a few of them were updated it would be an improvement. And I think it's better when the dependencies are in the Description so if all the dependencies were put in there then you could just leave a message saying ignore the dependencies in the readme and use the ones in the description. That way it saves reuploading files.

I just wish I could get the DVD,not only for me but for the site, but my dad's paypal when asks to get a password says the email address doesn't exist but when he goes to sign it says the same email is already in use with another account.

I think for now I'll stick with what I've done before, playing with what I've got and just living with it.

No, it is a separate file that is installed when you install BSC Essentials. Check your plugins root for it.

Even doing that would be a huge amount of work, Jonathan. We do try to do that for most of the lots but you have to understand that many of the older ones were uploaded quickly to help get the LEX started and running with a reasonable amount of files. I still have a vast number to update and upload for a variety of creators and cannot even think about tackling such a task.

The small town USA pack by JB is showing nothing but boxes in game. They show up in the menu but when plopped I get boxes any help.

In either the readme or the description, there should be links to dependencies, you need to download them. And hopefully none will be out of date and you won't get any boxes.

EDIT: I'm extremely tempted to say I could volunteer for the job, but I know I wouldn't get through every single file and I'm scared I'll break something.
