Title: Prepo's BAT thread
Post by: prepo on April 14, 2007, 04:46:23 AM
Hi all. Here is my thread ;)

I've started making a set of diagonally rendered w2w buildings:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg261.imageshack.us%2Fimg261%2F4803%2Fw2wdiagonals1jb7.jpg&hash=64a891898da5c5004491b30a7e6ed5439988228e)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg410.imageshack.us%2Fimg410%2F5706%2Fw2wdiagonals2xr1.th.jpg&hash=a8dfd5d642a7824b4cf189e9b7b962971a719922) (http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=w2wdiagonals2xr1.jpg)

Building with red roof is from simtrop. by ferox

Problems: it's hard to fit building to each other and to streets/sidewalks. Also some shadows don't look good. I rendered sidewalks into model files as ferox has made (I did that also in my Karjala Insurance (http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/8172/karjalainsurance2yj4.jpg))..

I'll try different architectural style this time, these are "jugend"/classism..

Yay! I was actually looking for more diagonal W2W buildings, as they would have come in handy in my MD. But this is looking great, and I'll be more than willing to wait for them! I've always loved your work, especially the diagonal parks and the Uspenski Cathedral !

Good luck!

Hi prepo ,

Firstly I want to congratulate you for the great BATs you gave us since 3 years .... &apls &apls &apls
You're the BATer of the first triangular building , the first triangular park set , the Ympiratalo ... so a specialist of buildings out of the ordinary by their architectural forms !
I was glad to see you in the "Introduce yourself ..." thread but I wasn't expecting a BAT thread so quickly .
What a project !  &apls

Awesome Prepo... the game needs more of these!  Your parks are a great addition and your others are great as well!!

EDIT:  Btw, where are Ferox's diagonals available?  There are only a few on Simtrop, and I can't seem to find the red or yellow ones...

I know only that one with a red roof ("Warsaw Geberthner And Wolff Diagonal" in first and second pic). Other diagonals in pictures are mine...

Hi Prepo,

First I want to say that I am a big fan of your work. second I also love Suomi. My niece maried a Finnish Fighter pilote. so I've been a few times in Finland. I don't speak the language yet (unfortunately) But I intend to go there more often. The nature is astonishing and Turku and Helsinki are beautiful cities.

But back to your bats. I am thrilled to see you tackle the niche of diagonal buildings in SC. they look very Helisinkian to me. are they?

Good luck!

Hi Strechnitz,

Yes, these are mostly based on buildings in Helsinki.. not any particular though, I just took details here and there.
There are no much survived historical buildings in Finland if you compare to most of Europian countries, I'm just reading a book about historical architecture and it says that only 2,5 % buildings here are built before our independence (in 1917). Finnish towns were really small in the past and buildings were also small and mainly made of wood...

From Helsinki:

Some old buildings from my hometown Pori:

That is true. Most of the buildings were made of wood. You probably know the history of Tsar Alexander II. Finland was his crowncolony, it included east karelia back than. He wanted to turn Helsinki into a stone city. After Augustus' famous words. "I found rome as a city of brick and left her a city of marble" So he funded building projects to this end.

The Upenski Cathedral, the university and its library, and a few other buildings were done. not have of what the finns wanted to do. but Alexander was mean on money so they simply hadn't enough to built more. When he made a surprise visit to Helsinki they showed him the cathedral and the buildings around the square, as well as the avenueadjoining the esplanade. they did so 3 times. then he demanded to see the rest. He was a bit dissapointed to see the rest off the city built of wood.

But nothing is wrong with wooden houses. he just didn't like them. A lot of stone structures are built since then. But I need not tell you that. $%Grinno$% I just like the story a lot.

I haven't been to Pori I think. But perhaps I will next time when I come to Finland.

Great bats prepo; these are very unique and useful.
I love the buildings in the photos you have posted. They seem to have a sort of organic style between small russian buildings and small parisian ones. They are very interesting...

Hyvä luoja prepo  :o

Luomuksesi saavat omani näyttämään koiranjätöksiltä  ;D Lieneekö sattumaa, että minä aloitin toissapäivänä tekemään näitä vinokaduille sopivia W2W rakennuksia sinusta tietämättä   %confuso

En millään malta odottaa näiden julkaisua, onneksi BSC pakottanee sinut julkaisemaan nämä  ;)

Simple english version: I can't compete with prepo. No one can, because prepo has achived the highest level of batting.

That modernist building is indeed very nice Prepo,

Are you releasing them as a set or seperately? What are your plans with these wonderful bats?

I have counted at least 9 different models already. That is a lot indeed.Good luck with this project.

Post by: prepo on April 21, 2007, 02:11:46 PM
rooker1: They are mine :) .. hopefully this set will be released some day ;)

Sim Shady: Buildings "LODs" were not yet modified in the last pic, that's why it wasn't look correct.

Bengt: Älä luovuta, battisi on ihan hyviä, ja jonkunlaisella vaivannäöllä niistä saisi erinomaisia. Jo esim. parempi teksturointi saa ihmeitä aikaan.

T Wrecks: Making these orthogonal wouldn't be that easy, because a diagonal "tile" is not same sized as orthogonal:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg152.imageshack.us%2Fimg152%2F1372%2Fsizesfa7.jpg&hash=41174d707f89c146a0b70b9440c72cc7f4e34f8a)
I've used these sizes / placing in my buildings (squareroot of 162+162)=22,6 (or x 1½ of this size= 33,9)

Strech: This will propably be a set, I haven't decided how many building I'll make. All my orthogonal buildings shown here will be relased in another set (I've finished batting, BSC team will lot/mod them).

Here's an update with nightlights, better textures and details, my triangle parks fit nicely in:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg444.imageshack.us%2Fimg444%2F5040%2Fdiagonaalitfh4.jpg&hash=69d3d05e1fdcef734bc0dd4a3bc915589197808f)

Title: Re: Prepo's BAT thread
Post by: Krio on April 22, 2007, 04:34:46 AM
Jep, pitäisi alkaa tekstuureja itse tekemään ja saada kärsivällisyyttä pieniin yksityiskohtiin  :P Mutta nuo mittasuhteet ovat kätevät, itse olen tehnyt vähän liian isoiksi omat batit (eivät sopisi esim. sinun työn kanssa yhteen). Hyvän standardin saa battaajat sinulta näihin vinoihin rakennuksiin.

English: Yep, I should have better texturing and more patient for the details, and the "sizing" what you showed are handy for all batters who do diagonical buildings, e.g me.

I edited this, so the non-finnish users would have more "fun"  ;)

I please all the members to keep the english as the main language in this board  ::) ... so all the other members can understand what is going on.

Looking good prepo old man! But this time those shops look kind of wierd...espically that red one  :-\ and those bushes a great idea, but not really realistic? Or do I just visit only in no-green areas of Helsinki  ;D You could do a round (ympyränmuotoiset) shaped bushes perhaps?

And few words in finnish, basicaly same as a english version: Niin noista kaupoista / liikkeistä, niin tuo punainen näyttää vähän oudolta, ainakin markiisit eivät mielestäni sovi tuollaisinaan tuohon. Mutta muuten erittäin hienoa työtä jälleen, varsinkin katto on mahtava. Täytyy myöntää, että aion kopioida savupiippujesi muotoa omiini  ;D

Geez you're revolutionizing the game here. These diagonal buildings are going to be a big hit and useful to many. They're also really well detailed and that's saying something considering how much of a hassle diagonal buildings are to create and lot. Keep up the great work  &apls

All that said, I can't say that I care for the roundabout gas station though. Putting a building in the centre of a roundabout is a great idea and one that people have so far overlooked (existing roundabout stuff is either a transit station or landscapping). However, I think a gas station isn't an appropriate building for the space because gas stations generate a constant stream of entering and exiting traffic. Locating a gas station in the centre of a small roundabout like the ones we have in Sim City, would be an accident just waiting to happen. Maybe a cafe or something would be more fitting?

Sampo palatsi looks great, those Sampo-signs give me reality to the game and ROFL-station is awesome. Is it funkkis-style also? Because it reminds me about one cool Esso station, which is behind Helsinki School of Economics.

And I agree with Glenni, footprint would be great for him because I still see nightmares about his triangles..just kidding  ;D

I actually made the station almost a year ago, but didn't show it outside BSC... Vil gave me idea for the name..

I know it's not so realistic, it's a kind of joke..

I had that idea also when I started making this set and I may do so.. :)
Would they better be gmax files or rendered model files with lots? It's also not so easy to place them correctly in lot editor, as you can see in my pics there's sometimes (by mistake) some small gaps between buildings..
And I know many people like you glenni are using 3dsmax, can you easily import gmax to 3dsmax?

Yes, it's kind of funkkis.. not based on any real one.

I don't know about autocad, but there are some export/import plug-ins to convert gmax to 3dsmax compatible file, though some data will be lost like texture mappings (ok, it's not important in this case). I don't remember if it saves for example the scale correctly... which is the most important.

The route from Gmax to Max requires you have the MD3 plugin and conversion software such as Deep Exploration.  It's not a painless process but it is doable.

Sorry, this set will be Finnish/European..
Maybe my next building could fit in North American cities too? It's based on Stockmann department store (http://www.virtualhelsinki.net/tour/goto/kolmen_sepan_aukio_qtvr.html) in Helsinki.
Real building is such a large complex (fills nowadays the entire block and part of another) so decided to make it smaller, I'll call it "Stickmann" :)

You could do the whole Stockmann instead of Stickmann  ;) But why not name it Tukkimies like in Aku Ankka  ;D

Still great job, like a photograph. The newer parts of the Stockmann are very complex and they are expanding it. But could you add that light tower to the roof, the white one which has Stockmann's logo? I like that for some odd reason very much  :)

The Kolme Seppää-statue is awesome, but maybe it could be little smaller?

And finnish: Ajattelin itse batata tämän kokonaisuudessaan, mutta mitä turhia kun teet näin hyvää työtä  :) Itse voisin Helsingin maamerkeistä "luoda" Senaatintorin rakennuksia tai Helsingin kaupungintalon tämän seuraksi. :-\

Some day I hope.. :) Maybe I now have enough buildings to call this a set..? More details, maybe some scaling, hi-res renders, better lotting, modding are needed before release.. it will take some time.

I've made 5 different footprint models for batters as glenni and bengt requested:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg57.imageshack.us%2Fimg57%2F2050%2Fw2wdfootprintsdf0.jpg&hash=3b9132a84ecb26fc151d68984885514cd87dc8fa)
there are 2 different sized corner buildings (1 and 1½ diagonal "tiles" long)
1 normal diagonal building (1 diagonal tile long)
             2 orthogonal/diagonal corner buildings.
Enough different sizes to start with?

wow is all I have to say. I love Stickmans. The sculpture out front is a very nice little detail. The inside details and lighting also turned out very well. The only thing I would suggest is changing the window texture to be a little less strong. I think it's distracting to see the Sim City scape so easily in the building's windows. If it were me I would tone that down just a tad. Other than that this is great. Keep up the awesome work.

Quotenice shapes but di you not miss off the stickmans shape and its mirror....

There would be so many possible sizes and combinations..
You can make needed sizes by combining these models with help of the grid.
I will include the rendered footprint bats and lots in the file, it might help lotting.

With this picture I try to clarify how the diagonal "lots" are defined. Diagonal lot borders will be like the drawn red lines (or maybe between them, I havent decided that yet.. ;)). Yellow areas are the actual lots in Lot editor, rest of the buildings are overhanging.

Anyway, here's an update of Stickmann. I'll stick with the name Stickmann.. Tukkimies is too much Ankkalinna :) But hey, I made the ugly ad tower, and they got Crazy days 24/7..

116327 polys, ~130 omnis.. it takes soooo long to render one direction in hi-res.

QuoteAbout the green roof texture- is it glass (ie- are those skylights?) If so, it looks perfect!,  but if it is just green roof tiles I would lower the glossiness in the texture a little.
Real world roof is made of copper (patinated (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patina))

Another side looks like this.. I need to fix couple of omnis.. they are "flooding" a bit.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg122.imageshack.us%2Fimg122%2F8278%2Fstickbackze5.jpg&hash=37a220e08c09f1ac90fc9418b40df31da9612336)

QuoteI don't know why, but this building keeps reminding me of the Goldman and Salatsch department store in Vienna, which also sits on a diagonal in between two intersecting streets.

I've read about that building (http://architecture.about.com/library/weekly/aa030199.htm), it's one of them most important work of architect Adolf Loos, he was one of the first "functionalist" architects. Someone should BAT that building too..

I lol'ed when I saw that myself. I think the phrase that my mind came up with (Roundabout On Four Legs) was even funnier.  :D :D :D (I actually think it'd make a decent name for a cafe or a bar).

Love Stickmann's, I need more diagonal buildings badly. My CBD area is an intersecting diagonal and orthogonal grid, which makes it rather difficult to get the look of some areas right. This'd probably fit in somewhere in what I call the "breakdown" - basically where it's transitioning between suburban and urban (which happens quite abruptly in my current region).

Here are all 14 buildings I've made. Lot placings need still some adjustment.. It's hard to see when they are correct in Lot editor.
I changed my 1½ "diagonal tiles" long building to corner building because it will be easier to make the lots this way. 1½ size corner buildings will be needed because the diagonal intersection causes "half" diagonal tiles.. it's hard to explain but if you look at the pictures (I hope) you'll understand :)

They will need separate diagonal filler lots.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg479.imageshack.us%2Fimg479%2F3789%2Fdiagsetallvk0.jpg&hash=9c32c56f9636b6146e0c1d78b37f71b516d534a5)
I'm not sure why some of the buildings don't always light up..?
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg267.imageshack.us%2Fimg267%2F8497%2Fdiagnitedo0.jpg&hash=29c997b77b69efb2e5bd5f1270d39b4f35c18268)

I've used these textures inside the buildings as a floor texture. They don't look very special here, but if the windows are not very big and window texture opacity is set to 50-70% they'll look just fine. All lights inside the buildings are omni lights.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg516.imageshack.us%2Fimg516%2F4482%2Ffloor1ec1.jpg&hash=6b2746c041cd5c7c097bea9914f3d3d78b8758d7) (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg252.imageshack.us%2Fimg252%2F3896%2Ffloor2xo7.jpg&hash=3f498ad50f3864ba8e9d1b352cb470648e96a24c)

It takes less time to render just these textures than actual meshes inside building.

Unfortunately not, or it would be a quite hard, they'd also need to be overhanging. I had to render the pavements into model files, because I don't know how to control ground textures.

If the other diagonal batters are rendering the pavements as I have done, shadows/lights may look silly when buildings are plopped wall to wall (first pic).
I placed there a plane (green line) with 100% opacity (2nd pic), gmax default lights always cast shadows, no matter opacity and the buildings on rows look better now.

I'm not sure why some of the buildings don't always light up..?

As far as I know, the game has a small bug that is triggered in one particular rotation (south?). If a prop is placed next to the lot border or overhanging the lot, it doesn't light up at night in this rotation. Since your props are overhanging the lots as well, I think they are suffering from the bug, too.

But with nightlights or not, those are some spectacular pics, and I'm sure your BATs will change any European W2W downtown forever (wait, I think I said that before, didn't I?).

What a sight to see all of these together in one spot. This will be a transformational set -- allowing diagonals to be developed at a level not done before. You are a pioneer in diagonal development!

Indeed. prepo should get the highest reward for making these. I suggest prepo to receive Finnish Innovation award  ;D

And I consider myself as a bad copycat when trying to make my own diagonals.

I've made two diagonal filler lots with parked cars, they are both rendered "all in one", no separate props.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg86.imageshack.us%2Fimg86%2F1139%2Fdiagfillers2st2.jpg&hash=953534fc74c1e0a3742b50edd6a1a243d58035cf)
I used Jeroni's diagonal fences on the upper left corner lot.

My diagonal BATs with some other w2w buildings:

This just gets more and more impressive. Those textures to fake interior details are a great idea and I could see them working quite in most places. The diagonal car parks are a wonderful addon and the lighting on them and your bats is perfect. Whenever you get all of these released it'll revolutionize the way a lot of people play the game.

I haven't uploaded the BATs shown here.. I've finished the "BATting part" of these diagonal buildings and rendered them. villaV will improve the lots. My own lotting/modding skills are limited... that's why I haven't released my buildings recently.

I don't remember writing a proper tutorial about it but here are couple of textures I've used:
texture1 (http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/5313/kerros2og.jpg) texture2 (http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/4482/floor1ec1.jpg) texture3 (http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/3896/floor2xo7.jpg)

Set one of the textures as your building floors inside the building. Make your windows textures transparent (I usually have 60-70% opacity). I use omni lights inside the building as night lights.

I would like to echo Swesims comments.  I understand several lots were completed already.  However, I have tried to get the diagonal buildings aligned properly in the lot editor and i can see it is very hard, so plenty of kudos to anyone that successfully lots those.

BTW, any tips for getting the lots to be consistant/ buildings to align evenly?

Thanks again for making these Prepo, what can i say, theyre freaking amazing  ;D

Kannatti valvoa!

YES..YESSS!  $%Grinno$%

Something to add:

prepo's work is really stunning. I admit, I'm good batter but look at his work. My diagonals will never be as good as his, neither my "straight" bats. Round shapes, texturing, details. Everything is awesome. Like roofs: prepo's rooftextures are stunning and because I suck with photoshop, I can't create rusty metal -> never as good bats. Also prepo is master of different styles: functionalism, national romantic, empire and also 60's.
This man is a real gift for SimCity4 community. Best batter ever - better than Goober, porkissimo or several other masters.

Prepo, the way you mirror things in gmax is to group all the objects (except the lights) into one and then under the roll out attach a mirror modifier. Don't use the mirror tool at the top as it will mess up the textures and is actually broken, but the mirror modifier does function correctly. Once you've mirrored everything using the modifier move the lights back into their proper position (they have to be done separately as they'll mess up the mirror). This is how I have done it and why all of my corner buildings come with both a left and a right version.

Wow, SC4BOY, that picture by Petteri Järvinen (who is an author in the biggest Finnish computer magazine, "Tietokone"), is from the island of Katajanokka.
Several of the names for Prepo's orthogonal w2w buildings (yet to be released) I have taken from streets on this very island. :)

The market in the foreground is the "Wanha Satama (http://www.royalravintolat.com/wanhasatama/index_en.asp)" = "Old Harbour", and it is indeed a market... but mostly a market of beer, food and some souvenirs for tourists coming from Sweden by Viking Line, the terminal of which is just outside the picture to the left.

The big harbour warehouse to the left is today the Grand Marina Hotel (http://www.scandic-hotels.com/grandmarina), which would also make a beautyful addition to SC4! ::)

But, because I name my buildings too after streets of Helsinki, could you a) avoid naming them with same streets what I've used and b) tell me the names after you have decided them, so I don't name mine with same streets :)

But, because I name my buildings too after streets of Helsinki, could you a) avoid naming them with same streets what I've used and b) tell me the names after you have decided them, so I don't name mine with same streets :)

Hmm hmm.. $%#Ninj2

So far none of the names you have used, have collided with any of the names I've used for Prepo's lots. ;)

If you place Prepo's MEGA pack in your plugins folder and open LE, you will see all his orthogonal buildings as props, with proper names! ::)

Prepo W2W Orthogonal (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1348)

All Prepo's 13 orthogonal w2w buildings are now available on 22 different lots, beautifully lotted by VillaV.

Title: Resident counts?
Post by: SC4BOY on December 02, 2007, 10:58:39 AM
Hi all.. beautiful bat work here..

I don't normally use this kind of lot because it is rare in my area, so I build things I know about.

I dl'd your package recently just for a look.. I was stunned by the number of residents you have in your buildings.. They seem extremely high. I'm sure you have your reasons for doing this, but it seems completely out of line with anything "real". I suppose you just do this so you can have high population cities without skyscrapers?

EDIT: haha.. pretend I didn't say any of that..  &blush

Actually, they have all been modded using Wouanagain's "X Tool", which performs the capacity calculations (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2308.0) in line with those settings Maxis used for all their buildings in the game.

All formulas Maxis used (and to a certain degree implemented also in the Plugin Manager) are based on the dimensions of the bat, or more exactly the width, depth and height of the LOD box bounding the bat.

What Maxis left out, is the element that has been added by the "X Tool": Filling Degree (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2306.msg68219#msg68219).
The "X Tool" is better at calculating the capacity according to the formulas Maxis developed than Maxis themselves... $%Grinno$%

The default filling degree is 0.5, and using that value, you would get exactly the same occupancy as Maxis gave their buildings.
Wall-to-wall buildings typically have a filling degree well above 0.5 though.
These w2w houses by Prepo have generally been given a filling degree between 0.6 and 0.7.

The in-game buildings these will be competing against should actually have a similar increase in their filling degree...
They are all taking up more than 50% of the LOD box bounding them. Maybe CAM 2.0 will correct these... ::)

The picture below shows a few of these buildings, all on 2x2 lots:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F9939%2Fcondos2x2bymaxisandprepct9.jpg&hash=79905de99d67c2bacb9d2d3b71612b72b4512a84)

From left to right:

Kapteeninkatuby Prepo
390 R§§
Wilsonoff Condosby Maxis
267 R§§
Somers Placeby Maxis
281 R§§
Manning Condosby Maxis
246 R§§
Katajanokkaby Prepo
304 R§§
Kruunuvuoriby Prepo
309 R§§
Holiday Hi-Hut Condos   by Maxis
246 R§§
Small Condosby Maxis
335 R§§

The Small Condos above with 335 inhabitants is the largest midrise R§§ available by Maxis.
The next one after that is the Jolly Manor with a capacity of 982.

And if you're playing only the Euro tileset, the jump is even longer, to the Beigestone Hirise with a capacity of 1,488 R§§.

There should definitely be more houses available between those two...
A gap at least European players can fill with Prepo's w2w houses! ;)

Umm.. well I don't have the Xtool.. but the numbers you show above look reasonable to me.. and maybe I've made a BIG goof and it wasn't Prepo's lots.. the ones I looked at had populations in the 1500-2000+ range.. I'll go back and look.. GOSH I hope I didn't goof.. if I did I'm really sorry.. I'll report back for my dose of crow if appropriate.. :)

edit: Well I've gone back and looked ALL THROUGH all the building I was looking at (in my defense I did have about 5 mil worth of buildings installed  ()what() hehe) and I can't find ANY building with the high numbers.. The only thing I could have done is thought I was clicking Prepo's and was hitting a LOD of a skyscraper in front.. sorry...

Serve up that big plate of crow!  :'(

I got a bone to pick with Eliel Saarinen... Obviously he lost all taste he's ever had when he designed this ...thing.

Yes folks, this is the American Embassy in Norway. What was he thinking?!

@ prepo:
This "forgotten building" ... is it for diagonal 90° corners that include two tiles?

It's for diagonal 90° corners but the size is only 1 "diagonal" tile (same as my other smaller diagonal 90° corner buildings).

QuoteI got a bone to pick with Eliel Saarinen... Obviously he lost all taste he's ever had when he designed this ...thing.

This is actually design by Eliel's son, Eero Saarinen. Not a masterpiece I think, but Eero designed also the TWA building at JFK airport (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/174/417081233_f8c60abd76.jpg?v=0) and the Gateway Arch of St. Louis. (http://www.visitingdc.com/city/st-louis-arch-address.asp)

..and if you want to see another ugly embassy building, here is the Norwegian Embassy in Helsinki by Eyvind Retzius and Svein Bjöland :)

As you may know, Prepo, I love your buildings.  ;)
But in this case, "Kapteeninkatu 1900", the window frames are much too dark - it's hard to see them, as a result the windows appear like black holes.  &mmm

What's wrong with European / Scandinavian style?

Absolutely nothing....  These BATs are incredible... makes me wonder, if you guys are able to do this... Why Maxis did not work this aspect into the game from the start.  I have had a talk with RippleJet and the answers he game me to my questions were disapointing...(I now know that you can not MOD a ortho. into a  diag.  what a shame.)Back to the post... There is nothing wrong with Euro buildings... I can totally see you guys doing buildings that are familiar to you, the only problem is we Americans and Canadians kinda feel out in the cold  :'(.  That is why I now pledge to put off all my city building temporarally to learn the BAT and start making a set of North American buildings.... Of course this will be a slow and ardorous process, since I am totally wet behind the ears on this art.  I am determined to learn however, because  the region I am working on pretty much has 2 cities that in real life need to be built in diag... The only problem I forsee is that most tutorials here and on ST assume you have some skills pertaining to the BAT and MODding... Hey, for all you guys doing actual city re-creations, especially New York and Philadelphia.... Imagine being able to do Brooklyn and Kensington, both built on diags. with diagonal el-over road or ave, with stores and houses front those streets, now talk about a BATgasm  :P...  Prepo,Krio and Ripple.... Keep up the good work, you with a host of other talented players have revolutionizes this game...Congrats. &apls
