Title: texturing an aircraft model
Post by: sdc16064 on January 16, 2010, 12:00:08 PM
Sorry to ask again, but does ANYONE know how to texture an aircraft model downloaded from Flightsim, as well as how to make your own textures? This applies only to commercial aircraft.

I do, but it is a highly involved process. Do you have the model open in GMAX? I can make a pictorial tutorial, to allow you to follow my method, but I can't do it right now.

I use a program called DXTBmp and paint.net. I don't have a link for them, but if you google them you should find it.
After you install these programs, go to Avsim.com or any other FS website and download the paint kit for the type of airliner you want.
Go to youtube and type "DXTBmp" or "repainting fsx aircraft" in the search tool, you should find something there.

Yes, I do have a few models able to be opened in Gmax, but I still need help in finding other aircraft and making textures.

There are some models posted at sc4D under 3ds models.

Can't remember if I included textures.   &mmm

Try some from here  http://www.cgtextures.com/   or from the texture links thread here at SC4D

Have you read the tutorials?   They don't apply to airplanes but do explain how to texture.
And texturing depends on what textures you want on it.    To just have a plain metal plane
is fairly simple.   To have lots of decals and custom stuff is far more complicated.

Edit:   There are some great tutorials on texturing at this link.  http://www.escalight.com/tutorials/3dsmax-tutorials/gundam-rx-78-2-texturing-part-1.html

Remember, GMax is just 3ds max minus tons of features.
