I know this is possible as I've done it before but can't for the life of me remember how I did it.

Basically you start with a large box, then draw a smaller box, move the smaller box so that it is half way inside of the larger box and sticking out half way.

Now you do something in Gmax that makes it so that the smaller box disapears and in it's place is left a hole that is the exact dimmensions of the smaller box, basically you're left with a large box with a indent in the side of it that is the same size as the smaller box's width, height and depth that you inserted it into the larger box.

Can anybody tell me how this is done, or if you know of a tutorial that describes it that would be great.

Thanks,

Select the large rectangle, go to modifiers> patch/spline editing> Edit spline. Now on the right side of the screen in the modifier list, locate "geometry". Under that you will see "attach mult.", select this then attach your other rectangle.

You may have meant to search for Houdini. (result of searching for XiahouDun on SC4D)

Select the box that is going to be cut, go to Geometry, select compound objects and pick boolean, press pick operand B and choose the piece that is going to cut the one you have selected (to cut different geometry just attach the meshes)

Thanks very much, that was the word I was looking for, "Boolean", but couldn't find it anywhere on the menus, guess I didn't look hard enough.  Thanks for the assist to both of you.
