I am confused by the custom music option. I have downloaded the Sim city 3000 soundtrack from the official website and guess what? It works fine, and plays in my game no problem. But I have some enya music that I saved to my computer from a disk and I copied and moved the files from my windows media player to the custom music file. But they will not play, even when I select only custom music options. It plays the sc3000 music no problem, but why wont it play any other tracks?? How can I get it to? I need some more variety!

It will probably have to be the same file type... thats all i can think of at the moment, I have heard that it plays mp3's

What I do is turn off my Sound Options for SC4 and instead of listening to music while in SC4 I turn on Winamp (find it at download.com) and play my music on there.  It works pretty good for me and then I wont have an issue with having duplicate files.

Why not just go to the source ?  winamp.com

I do something similar, but with iTunes.

jplumbley: Thanks for posting. I check out the winamp page and saw that now I can use winamp to sync my iPod.  ()stsfd()

Fledgeling...

Just to add a bit to the post by star.torturer...

The game does only play mp3 files. If you copied files you had ripped into Windows Media Player, chances are they are wma files that will need to be converted. There are various free music converters available online (if you don't have one), but you may need to try more than one. I looked into this when I was converting music for the game and discovered files made by some converters don't work (never figured out why) even though they were mp3. Also, if converting, the bit rate needs to be at least 128kbs for consistant game function.

Of course, if this seems like a big hassle, you can do as suggested in previous posts and turn off the game's music and use your music player in the background. Hope this helps.
