Thought it time to make a request myself, but, of course, it's well possible that someone already thought of these:
1) we've got snow in SC4 - so how about a modular ski resort? Ought to be self-powering, at least for the main lodge, since you really don't want to run ugly powerlines up a steep, high mountain.

2) to go with that, a funicular; the type of steeply rising small railroads or cable lifts you find in the Alps (see pics).

3) and finally: we've got canals galore - but where are the houseboats?? This ought to be one for our Dutch bretheren, since they live around if not in them..  $%Grinno$%

Oops - funny enough, at the office here in Bruxelles they called me that a few times (but thy are Flemmish, ergo..) and I never thought about it. They will certainly here about that one, next time they ask me for another tool.

My apologies..

So we cannot turn that knob on you to decide what tool to create next? $%Grinno$%

I think he's just set on "high spin"  :D
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it

RJ: Mais oui. As long as it can be done in C# or VB.net and some finally explains to me what handles (or knobs) there are on SC4, I'll give it a shot.

callafrax: I'm too old a model for "high spin" - I just simply run everything through the wringer and see what comes out at the other end. Lemme know when its your turn..  ::)

Darn, too bad I didn't know of a ski lift option before hand, that along with the modular resort, is good for other situations, but I waited for the most recent NAM to deal with the major slopes. This isn't the same, but in this situation I tried using the new high and regular monorail combined just for transporting up a real giant slope.

Ennedi

@j-dub: As I understand you correctly, you would like to use monorail to create something like this one showed by HandsOn on his pictures? Very good idea, and it can be done!
It would need to change monorail parameters to enable placing it on - let's say - 45o slope (which is realistic) or even more (which could look unrealistic). It's an easy part, it can be done by modifying the slope mod. But creating such mountain rail would also need making stations (lower and upper one, with an overhanging part to cover up the line ends) and a special monorail vehicle model (only one would be enough).
I would be able to modify the slope mod, but you should find somebody to create stations and vehicles  :)

Yeah your right, the slope in my case isn't so much the issue, as the regular stations are, special ones that end have to be made. Unless a U-turn for that can be made, I have a special command that allows the monorail to U-turn where the line ends.

I've been on quite a few of those things, and the stations are rarely at and angle themselves, thus you could still use regular, albeit shorter (max two, three tiles) stations. Someone did a ELR through a building once, can't remember, but probably SimRolle. These statiosn could be the same sort of thing: small, max, two-storey jobs. And only some ought to require road access. And definitely no power or water requirements because getting pipes at a steep angle mostly won't work.

Be good not just for resorts, but also "alpine" burbs..  $%Grinno$%

Edit: biggest deal are the cars: they are usually created angled, otherwise everyone would be sick by the time they reach top..  :D

A notable exception is the Peak Tram in Hong Kong...

Correctomundo, but I don't recall it going any steeper than about 15-20 degrees. Never been on that one, though, too bloody posh the Peak was in those days..
