Hey guys, I just downloaded the MP urban w2w set on the stex, and I was hoping to save myself the trouble of editing 80 lots to make them match my desired sidewalk texture. Since the majority use the same sidewalk texture, I was wondering if it would be possible to replace that texture's ID with another ID, say, the sandstone texture. If so, how would I go about doing that? Obviously the first step is to find the hexidecimal id for the sidewalk used in the MP lots, but from there, how would I duplicate the sandstone texture and delete the target one? Should I just open the target one and upload a new texture to overwrite it? How would I go about doing this?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

The easiest thing I can think of would be to make a replacement for the most common textures that lot makers use such as 0x258b3004 ,0x258c2004, and supplement the texture for the sandstone. The only draw back is that it will effect any and all lots that use that texture , including parks , etc.

that's perfectly fine with me. I'll see if I can do that. Should I use Sc4tool then?

You can actually use reader to do it. If you need help , let me know.

Jayson

Which texture IID is it?

Reader overloaded my memory and wouldn't let me open the file(simcity_2.dat) So I used Sc4tool to do it (after making a backup file) and made the change. Only problem is, the game crashed on city load, and now it does it every time with the backup file to... Clearly I did something wrong, although the texture i Wanted is in the right spot now

So , were you able to make the override?

Jayson

If not , here is one for just that IID.

Never edit original maxis files. Create a new dat file using sc4tool, add your texture using ID you want to change and put this file into your Plugins folder. The game will automatically update textures.

in addition to previous comment, your simcity_2.dat file is probably corrupted now and you will have to reinstall it. You will probably not need to reinstall simcity, just copy simcity_2.dat from the rush hour CD (SC4 Deluxe CD) and run any patches.
1. Install SC4+RH
2. Install LEX (CD&DVD helps) and latest NAM + updates
3. Play the game
4. ? ? ? ?
5. Profit!

all right. I figured making a backup would have been fine. It's wierd though, because the game runs on my other account which uses the same files, just not plugins.

reinstall fixed that problem.

Thanks, Sithlrd98!

No problem...let me know if you need anything else!
