Tree Controllers Plant (Tons Of) Maxis Pines -- Is this normal?

Hi, everyone, hope you're having a great holiday season.

I have used most of Cycledogg/c.p.'s wonderful God Mode tree controllers, Olympia, Meadowshire, Missouri Breaks, etc.  On 70% of the terrain, they plant what is shown in pictures, and it looks great.  But no matter which one I use, particularly in dry, high elevation areas, they always plant solid Maxis pines.  I don't find this very attractive, and end up trying to bulldoze most of them, which is a pain.  I always thought it was normal until this happened with the Missouri Breaks mod as well.  From what the pictures of this show, there are supposed to be large open areas with this one.  But it is filling in the Maxis pines there as well.  I am using it with the corresponding terrain mod, as I think that can affect what is planted, correct?  Or is it just elevation?  Could it be that I have a conflict?  I am careful to follow instructions, but I might have overlooked something.  Does anyone have any thoughts about this?  Does it happen for you?  I have pics if needed.

Thanks for your help.

It happens to me too, but most of my elevation isn't all that high - the highest is just mountain peaks, so the Maxis pines just end up in patches surrounded by other kinds..
My days here are numbered. It's been great and I've had a lot of fun, but I've moved on to bigger and better things.

Unfortunately, I think this is normal.
@Livin in Sim Do you have any Cycledogg/c.p. Mayor mode trees? Maybe to get around this God mode issue, you could use those. I could of sworn the trees from the mayor mode could go on higher elevations where snow will covers the ground. I also could have sworn the Cycledogg/c.p. trees in Mayor mode are free, $0. I don't know how high your elevation is where it won't do other trees anymore, but I have palm trees on an elevation so high, the game's snow covers their roots. All I know is when I plant trees in the real high mountains, it just does flat logs all over the place, because I don't think it reaches anymore.

Thanks, guys.   :)

Nerdly, that sounds exactly like what they do for me.   ::)

Yes, j-dub, I do have Mayor Mode trees from Cycledogg, and those work fine after I bulldoze the pines.  They're just time consuming to plant.  Yep, they're free, too.  It's odd that you get flat logs on high areas.   ()what()

If anyone else has any input, please chime in.   ;D

You can select the "Random Selection Of Conifers" controller, which works wonders on high elevation. Also, have you minized you game before you planted trees in God mode? There seems to be a glitch after you do that. :bomb:

Thanks, sim-al2, hmmm, select the Random Selection of Conifers Controller...is this a part of the install process of the c.p. controllers?  Or is it a separate controller entirely?  If so, where can it be found?  I don't think this is anything to do with the glitch you mentioned, as I have it happen without minimizing.

Bye for now.

I made said controller back then when Cycledogg released his original Columbus Tree Mod. Since I helped Cycledogg with the packaging, the controller should be included there as well. Please note that the current "CPT_No7a_" tree controllers are newer and will conflict with the old "CPT_No7_" controllers. If you don't plan to use the newer controllers, you're fine with said "random" controller. I didn't pay any attention to height and moisture differences, like Cycledogg did when selecting the tree models, but rather used random numbers that will cover your terrain with a somewhat uniform forest.

Hi, Andreas.

I don't see a Columbia 'scuse me, Columbus Tree Mod on STEX or LEX, but I do see http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=15005.  Is this the one that includes your controller?  Will the fact that is it for Mac users allow me to install it on my PC?  And do I replace my current tree controller with it and use it stand alone with the No8 and 9 models?  I'm using Missouri Breaks at the moment, so I would want it out of Plugins, because it would have the conflicting No7a, correct?  Or is it something else entirely?

Thanks for all your help!   :)

Andreas

This is the file I'm talking about: http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=12362 You can also use the Mac version, if you want, but the PC version comes with a handy installer instead of a bunch of zipped files. And yes, if you're using a No7a Missouri Breaks tree controller, you should remove it (and also all trees that you planted with this one).

Wonderful..thank you Andreas.  I see now that if I would have just clicked on cycledogg I would have seen that one too.  Looks like I should remove no's 8 and 9, as well, and just use this.  I think I will just try it on the fresh region I'm starting just to be safe.

Best holiday wishes to you.
