A Happy New Year to all of you!
I am facing two problems building my region:

1. I shifted a catenary prop up to place it on top of a NAM viaduct and viaduct shops but can't safe the new lot. Instead, I get a message stating that the prop is overhanging the lot size. How to solve that?

2. I want to expand my container yard under highway and rail bridges creating overhanging lots. Is there a tutorial or other description how it works as I can't find any?

Thanks for your help!

Hi

I have little experience with the Lot Editor, but I do know that your catenary problem is related to the fact that an overhanging prop must have an anchor point that is offset from the actual prop itself. Overhanging props are so called because the visible part of the model extends over the boundaries of what SC4 considers the actual prop. Properly centered props (where the visible bounds and the "logical" bounds are in sync) can't be placed over the edge of the lot, and I think lots that do this are part of what cause the immortal lot syndrome, though I'm extremely rusty in this area and am merely speculating at the this point.

I suspect the Model Tweaker may be able to help you in this regard, but I would be guessing (don't take my word for it).
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Yep, the SC4ModelTweaker is the way to go, and easy to use as well. Just keep in mind that once the catenary model is offset, all other occurrences are offset as well so you may have to make a copy of the model and give it a new instance beforehand.

As for overhanging lots, these take a bit of work and I'm a little foggy on the details but iirc, first make a lot and place adjacent to the highway/bridge. Now, in the graphics menu set 'city details' to low and safe-and-exit. Next, open the lot in the Reader and expand the lot size - obviously you have to keep this in mind when placing the lot so the expansion will go under the highways/bridge. Open the expanded lot in the LE and put the props on it. Open the game and put 'city details' back to high but don't enter the city just yet! Instead, exit and open the game once more and finally enter the city. If all went well the expanded lot and props will now show.

It may seem a bit cumbersome but switching 'city details' to low and back to high again is paramount because it forces the game to re-draw all the props, including the ones put on the overhanging lot. And as I said, the details elude me atm so it's probably best to try this in a sandbox first of all to get the order of things right.

Thanks! I managed to expand the overhanging lot but with no props showing up... %wrd
