News:

The SC4 Devotion Forums are no longer active, but remain online in an archived, read-only "museum" state.  It is not possible for regular members to post or use the private messaging system, and no technical support will be provided for any issues pertaining to the forums in their current state.  Attachments (those that still work) are accessible without login.

The LEX has been replaced with SC4Evermore (SC4E), and SC4E maintains an active Discord server.  For traditional forums, we recommend Simtropolis.

This is the first site with downloads that doesnt have any Search Button.
If you don't know what I mean, is a search button on which you write (example): "BSC essencials", and it finds prodcuts with that name, i mean name!!! So there will be only 1, itself.
It would be easier to find dependencies, because I cant download most of here because I dont find the dependencies, and it all starts on doesnt have a search button like this one or it isnt on the dependency list.

Have you tried the Power Search ?

btw: Welcome to SC4D. Hope you enjoy your time here.

The LEX does not have a text search function, but instead uses the "Power Search" function that enables you to search for items by creator, category, LEX category and type.

Im registered here for months, this was just the first time I posted, because its very annoying trying to find all dependencies for 1 single object, and doesnt have a search button to find everything I need.
Placing a link to the download page of that dependency its a good idea, but there are people that have too many uploads to do that, so it seems a search button could really improve a lot the Sc4D.

The dependencies are linked in the Readme. That is standard policy.

You may also like to note the link to the dependencies list at the bottom of the forum pages, this will take you to a hyperlinked table which lists all of the dependencies released upto the beginning of September I think.

I'm going to add my say to the discussion regarding the search function.  I completely agree that it would be beneficial to be able to search by title, which would make the site a bit more user friendly.  The way that the site is structured is perfectly fine for browsing, but it is almost impossible to find things if you are looking for something specific.  For example, lets say that I would like to add some parking lots to my game.  In order for me to locate the parking lots that I'm looking for, I would either have to know that WalkingSnake was the one who designed the lots or troll through hundreds of pages looking for it.  And given the amount of those designing, I'm not going to remember who does what.  As the site grows larger, it really would be beneficial to include a search function.  There's already a quick search on the site, but it really doesn't do anything different from the power search.

I agree: Power search is inefficient in terms of tracking down items.

It's fine if you can't remember the lot name, but you can remember the creator's name. It's not so good in terms of the situation: you can remember the name of the lot, but for the life of everything, you can't remember where it was or what the name of the creator was.

The LEX, in my opinion, is not user-friendly from a searcher's perspective. The way the search has been implemented is that wild-card searches are performed inefficiently (if i remember correctly, one of the BSC guys, probably Lee, said that a wild-card search would cause too much system resource slowdown). This inefficiency is a tough nut to crack, seeing as it's a flaw dating back to the use of 1s and 0s, which means we can't do anything about it. Computers can only do so much, that's the thing.

There are still workarounds. Also, it'd be lovely to see people use categories consistently when uploading lots... it's a waste of time where something is not where you expect it to be, and it's in another category on the LEX... people really should pay attention to what the nature of the product is, so that they can put it into the right category. For example, the Dependency - Props and Dependency - Textures categories are redundant, because there already is a Dependency section... and people don't always use Dependency - Props for their props, when they just put it into the broader category anyway.

To be honest, if the LEX is to be streamlined, clean up some of those categories! It's inefficient... and even better, if the categories are reshuffled, the links don't get broken, it just makes it easier for the search system to search the database.
