A question about using stuff..

Figure this may be the right thread for it: I am about to plunge headlong into the icy waters of creating my own plopable lots and I am hoping (against enormous odds) that I might be able to create some under-highway stuff. Strictly for in-house use, mind you. Ergo, what's the rule about using textures & props & stuff from downloads? I know IPR is a touchy subject, especially by downloading communities..

If it's for in house use then you can do whatever you want

If it's for uploading then you can still do what every you want except upload someone elses file.  you must link to it as a dependency.

For personal use, the sky's the limit, use whatever you'd like in any way that you'd like (as long as it's within Maxis EULA). If/when you decide to share your creations with the community, the rules are pretty simple: all model files created by other people must be linked to as dependencies, and cannot be included with your upload package, without the expressed written permission by the original creator. This rule is common among most, if not all, SC4 fansites, and immediate action will be taken if the rule is broken. Take a look at Barby's Guide to the creation of custom content for sharing with the community so that you know most of the guidelines that we here try to adhere to with all of our creations.
Have fun with your projects. That, probably above all else, should be the most important rule to follow.  ;D

Thanks, boys and girls, that's one monkey off my back (no offense meant, Xxdita). Not to worry, there won't be any uploading for a long, long, long, long time to come - heck, I first have to learn how to do what I am planning and this old brain ain't what it used to be (if it ever was)!

You dared, you dared..! Well, that's the thing about Simians and their descendants: never think of the consequences..anyhow, all I am trying to do right now is to create some under-the-bloody-highways-and-bridges-stuff for this new (absolutely smashing) map I downloaded. 45 mega cities in Barsalonia. I've got five cities started, and it looks like I'll end up keeping a tab on som 3mill Simians in the end.

But really, I am just fooling around with all these SC4 Tools and the geek Greek I face in them. Sure the tools are fantastic, but UF?? Can't say they are, and I program for a living..

Here's my cry for this weekend: write more tutorials folks, many, many, more wonderful tutorials for old, old men like me..!!

Thanks & sorry for the blabbering..
