Terrain mod causes CTD

If I install a Terrain mod, it causes a CTD. This is very annoying, because I like to have snow-capped mountains. Am I missing something? Must I destroy all cities in my region so that it wouldn't cause a CTD?

Please let me know,

Make sure that you have all dependency-packs it requires, otherwise an installed Terrainmod does crash the game.

No, you don't have to destroy those cities, but you have to uninstall that mod and put back again the terrain mod you ahve used with those cities.
Unfortunately there is some/several terrain mods uncompatible with each other.
I also have a few regions that I can't open them, just because I'm not using the original terrain mod I used when playing them.  ()sad()

The common CTD with terran is that you don't have texture for high elevation

Try to see if the CTD occurs on a plain flat region to see if this is your problem

mrtnrln, it would be good if you would tell which terrain mod did you install, so we would know what else do you need (or what should you uninstall).
Do you have an old (pjot's) Diagonal Jagged Edges Mod installed?

My recollection, if you are using one of the earlier terrain mods created by Brian (c.p./cycledogg) is that the failure to include any of the various tree controller files will cause a CTD.  Maarten, we need to see what mod you are using along with any associated files (screenie of that part of your Plugins subfolder would really help) and can go from there.

I think it was an old mod of CP, and the CTD occurs when the land got elevated. Also, I think I've downloaded the old jagged edges mod. Maybe I should download another terrain mod and see what happens then.

Thank you guys for helping me1

Every terrain mod includes an INI file (you can see it if you will open the main terrain mod file in Ilive Reader or DatGen). An important part of the INI file is a large texture map table. It decides which textures appear at various elevations, dryer and wetter places.
Custom terrain mods use mainly custom textures. It means you must install a file which includes all textures (FSH files and texture exemplars) used in the INI file. This file is a dependency for your terrain mod. Texture resource files can be released together with the terrain mod or can be released separately and described in the terrain mod readme as a dependency.

So your first step is to read the readme and check if you have all dependencies for your terrain mod. If not, you must install them. If you will install dependencies and CTD will still happen, go to step 2.

If you use an old Diagonal Jagged Edges Mod, you can use it only with Columbus Terrain Mod (there are separate DJEM versions for every Columbus Mod version: Standard, Snowcapped, Snowcapped Low and Snowcapped Lower), or without any custom terrain mod if you use the DJEM version "Maxis Standard". The DJEM should be placed after the terrain mod.

Step 2: Find your Diagonal Jagged Edges Mod version and check if it is compatible with your terrain mod. If not, fix it ie. install the proper DJEM version (if you want to use it).

Step 3. If you still have CTDs, remove DJEM and check again.

If you will still have problems, inform us here.

That's only if you're using his custom trees. Maxis trees shouldn't be affected.

Cycledogg's terrain mods require two dependencies:

CPT No3 Terrain Textures

CPT No4 Terrain Textures

...otherwise a CTD will happen.
