I downloaded the stand alone Lot Editor from the Maxis site and I am using that for quite some time now.

Some days ago I read about an updated version of the Lot Editor that is part of the BAT-download which also includes the PlugIn Manager. In order to install the BAT I also need to install Gmax.
Because I am not interested in BAT, PIM or Gmax I do not really feel an urge to install all that.

My question now is: am I missing a lot of versatile functionality by sticking to the old Lot Editor and should I install the new version or is the difference negligable?

Diggis

Hmmm, I don't think you have that quite right.  As far as I know the only other lot editor is the one being looked at as part of the X-Tool.  Other than that I don't think there is another one from Maxis.

Where did you read this?

Hi, Diggis,
I read it on this site: visit the Maxis support files thread. You know you must agree with the EULA. Then you find the second file: the BAT. The text says:

The Building Architect Tool is actually a suite of tools. It includes the Building Architect gamepack for gmax™, the Plug-in Manager, and an updated version of the Lot Editor.

- Update 1.1.640.0 which fixes BAT nighlighting is available in this section --

So, does anyone know if this update is worth wile?

Hmmm, weird, never seen that before.  I've been using the old version.  I'm looking into it for you.

I had a look at the Maxis site and it appears that it's available as a standalone download, and is very likely the same version as you have already.  Is there a version number in the title bar?

IIRC, Maxis updated the Lot Editor when the BAT was released, so it was able to work with BATted files. They must have updated the standalone version as well, though, since the LotEditorInstaller.exe in my BAT download folder is the same as the one that is currently available. As far as I remember, the Lot Editor gets installed automatically if you install the BAT (as well as the Plugin Manager), but if you don't want to install the BAT, the standalone version should do fine. In any case, the Lot Editor that I have installed (including the BAT) has the version number 1.0.12.0 in the title bar, and it works fine.

Diggis, Andreas,

I have the same version number: 1.0.12.0. So I guess this is the latest and if I want to have a better LOT editing programme I will have to wait for the ....... (X-word).

Thanks
