My cities tend to be very regular and organized, and thus, I almost never have space for an airport. Ergo, I decided to make a small(er) landing strip, just 2x7 or something. Unfortunately, it won't let me edit the lot size! When I click the "Lot size" parameters, I don't get a type cursor, and I cannot change the default values. Why?

RippleJet

Because airports are rather delicate when it comes to modding.
Changes would also have to be made in the airport controllers.

You may want to try AC Functional Airports instead.
Those give you several optional smaller airports and airport shuttles.

Read more about functional custom airports here. ;)

There are a number of excellent airports there, but none of them is quite small enough nor with a high enough capacity. Is there a tutorial on making one?

I thought there was a helipad included that is only 2x2 tiles? Or is it bigger than I remember?  :)
1. Install SC4+RH
2. Install LEX (CD&DVD helps) and latest NAM + updates
3. Play the game
4. ? ? ? ?
5. Profit!

But the helipad has very low capacity. What I was looking for was a commuter spaceport or something.

There's even a bus stop that's only 1×1.
If you want to increase it's maximum capacity from 5,200,
you'd have to edit the last rep of the property Trip Capacity List in its developer exemplar, included as file Num 198 within AC Functional Airports 2.0.dat.

It should upgrade if it's capacity is exceeded. Is it still too low on maximum tier?

5,200 is the maximum capacity for the 1×1 bus stop:

  • Stage 1 - 200
  • Stage 2 - 600
  • Stage 3 - 1,400
  • Stage 4 - 2,400
  • Stage 5 - 3,600
  • Stage 6 - 5,200

On the other hand, you should plop a lot of these, as they function like ordinary bus stops within the city as well.

The ingame spaceport is also included, with a capacity of 373,000.
That one does not upgrade though.

Oh. I'll download it.
EDIT: I can't find the download link on its download page... ()what()

Let me put it this way - my average small tile (residential) city has a population in excess of 150 000.

The residential population has no meaning to aiports.
The airport capacity used is the same as the commercial office capacity (CO$$ + CO$$$) within your city.

Excessive mod'ing like this is exactly why people no longer are interested in a friendly "competition" for biggest/densest/etc etc because all you have to do it mod your way there.. what challenge is that?

Apparently I've downloaded it before...

EDIT:
Hah! I've also finally found a free installer maker via the ad at the end of the setup! :D
