I have built one majopr city in my region with around 700k people in it.  I am wanting to expand to my neighboring cities but the large city throws everything out of order.  The resodential demand is almost infinitely low and the commercial demand in almost infinitely high.   No matter how much commercial I build there will never be enough, while my residential zones remain empty.  Please help!

KoV Liberty

Try downloading a RCI Cap mod. Its either on the STEX or LEX. Basically it sets your RCI Demand very high. One city I had would NEVER grow R$$$. But now it does. Sorry I cannot provide a link but I am baned from Simtrop till Tuesday.

My new MD. Check it out if you wish.

Adrian, I miss you man.

Eliteforce

Yea, but Idk, that feels kinda like cheating.  Is there any way to keep the RCI from bleeding so much into neighboring cities???

Are you running CAM?
If you are, then the reason is the doubled regional residential capacity and workforce.

Oh I do have CAM. Which is most likely the source of the issue.  Thought that looks like a really complicated route to fixing it D:  How does everyone else deal with this problem?

SC4BOY

Probably the only real solution, aside from abandoning CAM is to rotate your development a lot more often.. A reasonable guideline once you're over perhaps 20000 population (and possibly sooner) is to rotate your cities at least after 25% development growth or even more often.

Provide more jobs, e.g. by setting up an industrial city somewhere in the region.
It doesn't need to be very close to downtown...

As long as there is a road connecting it to your main city, the jobs will be taken into account for the regional demand.
However, most likely nobody will be working there, it's just set up to relieve the need for more jobs.

Besides, industries do function very well, even if nobody would be working in them...
As long as they get their cargo shipped out of town, they will flourish. ;)

So I guess I just have to make one city in the region my job b*tch and fill it up with industry and CS$?

There are lots of nice(er) industrial bats out there to use instead of those by Maxis... :)

Besides, if you want to keep your plugins folder small,
you could let SUM load only these industrial bats when playing your specialised industrial suburbs...
