Possible corrupted file on the LEX

Hi all. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this topic, but I thought I would bring this issue to the moderator's attention.

I recently downloaded and tried to install Simgoober's Grocery Store Model Pack off the LEX. These are the model files that
are required for SG's Grocery Store lots. When I ran the .exe file in the zip, my antivirus program flagged it as a malicious process.  At first I thought this was a false positive, so I deleted
the file and re-downloaded.  When I tried to install the file the second time, the same thing happened. When I restarted my computer, a virus warning appeared on screen before windows booted up.  I performed an
antivirus scan on my computer, and sure enough the file was corrupt.  My AV program indicated that this is a type of adware of the Win32.adware variant.

Now, I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but I love SC4 and all of the wonderful content here at SC4 devotion and Simtropolis. I just thought I would let the moderators know what happened.
I also left a smaller, but similar message in the comments section of the actual download.  It is next to my username, Robstar.

Thanks for reading, and hopefully this isn't anything more serious.

From time to time, certain anti-virus programs, especially the free version of AVG, give a false positive on files from the LEX. I have just downloaded and installed the file, and can assure you that there is no virus. I would suggest updating your virus definitions, or simply wait until the new definitions are released, and the problem will usually clear itself up.

Of course we do look into every virus threat reported on the LEX, almost immediately, but have never found any actual viruses in any of the files.

Hello Robstar

The file has been on the LEX since 2007 and has been downloaded over 5,000 times.

We get comments like this every so often about one file or another. The files on the LEX use an installer and sometimes virus programs, not knowing what they're seeing, will error on the side of caution and flag them as a problem. AVG Free in particular does that sometimes.

Just to be sure - I downloaded the file (and it's dependency SG commercial models) and scanned the zips with with McAfee - unzipped them - scanned the EXE files - installed them - scanned again. And didn't get a hit.

My suggestion is to install the most up to date virus definition files of your virus checker. Or wait for the next update, and try again.

Thank you for the report. We are obviosly concerned about virus as you are.

Actually you should notify your virus program support and find out why it reports innocent files as  "virus'" thereby seriously casting doubts and undermining confidence in their product.

Thanks for looking into it.  I have Ad-aware installed on my system and that is the program that flagged the file.  Sorry for not mentioning that earlier.  I'll download the file again and
try to install it. I may have had another virus on my system and didn't know it.

Well, this issue is resolved. The file in question was indeed a false positive. It turned out that my version of Ad-Aware was outdated and that was the source of the problem.  I downloaded the latest version, performed a scan, and installed SG's Model Pack. No corrupted files, my system is clean, and now I can play SC4 with Simgoober's awesome creations. Sorry for the scare.

By the way, my comments in SG's Grocery Store Model Pack download can be deleted.
Thanks

Again, false alarm. Report it to the company if there's an option, otherwise just wait for an updated VIrus Definitions and try again. No problems with AVG full version or Norton.

I concur with XXdita - I downloaded it, scanned, unzipped, scanned again, installed, scanned again. There are no Trojans as reported by your malware checker. I use McAfee's
