Image / Graphic Problems on SC4D?

For some reason, none of the graphics on the site are working and haven't been for a few hours now for me. For example, on the main page, all the graphics are broken images and in the forums, all the little illustrations have been replaced by what they mean. For example: instead of the smiley faces with the thumbs up/down to change karma, it says "Applaud" or "Smite." Also, all the smiley faces in posts that people use are replaced by the emotion they descrive, for example: Smiley, Wink, Cheesy, etc. I don't know if it's my computer or if it's a site problem, but in case it is the latter, I thought I would bring it up. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hm, nothing wrong on my end. Smiley's working fine for me. 

Edit, and I just posted an update to my MD, and had no trouble with the pictures either.

Right there! Where the smiley thumbs-up should have been, it said "thumbsup." I don't understand...

Same here, my friend.  No problems.  Try refreshing the offending page- you may just have such a slow connection this evening that the pics- even the little stuff- never gets a chance to load.

We'll be on the lookout- but bet it gets better shortly.

I don't seem to be having any problems, either at home or at work.
Are you using Firefox or IE?


Edit:  Is it just gif or is it all graphics?

Elektra: I'm using Firefox, but I've tried it in IE and the same thing happens. Also, it just seems to be the smiley faces, the little colored bars that say whether you are a "Councilman," "Governor," etc., and the tabs where it says, "Home," "Help," "My Messages," etc.

OK, another piece to the puzzle...

Whenever I right-click on anything that is supposed to be an image and click on "View Image," I get the following:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /forums/Smileys/JasonSmilies/embarrassed.gif on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Does this mean anything, or could it still just be a slow connection?

That doesn't look like a "you" problem, Dustin- it appears to be an "us" problem.

If that is the case and it's on my end, what can I do to rectify the problem? I'm currently using Firefox v2.0.0.3, but as I said above, the same thing is happening with IE 7.0, too.

Do you have a firewall? Anti-spyware that just updated? Anti-virus that just updated?

Yes, I'm using Norton Internet Security, but I don't remember exactly when it last updated itself. When I disabled it, everything went back to normal, so that seems to be the problem. However, when I have it on, it does it again. Is there a way for me to change the settings in there so it can be on without doing it?

Check and see if you have "ad blocking" checked in the main menu.
That is only one thing, I am still looking for what other could be causing it.

{Edit}: If that isn't it, try this:

Rightnclick the task tray and open norton internet security.
Go to options then Internet Security
Then click the Web Content tab
Make sure animated images and flash are on "permit" not block.


It is possible it got reset to block with an update.

OK, that is EXACTLY what mine looks like, too. It works whenever I disable Internet Security, but when I have it on, sometimes it does it, other times it works somewhat more normally. I've tried your suggestions, Elektra, and it works every once in a while, too, but for the most part, I just have to disable it altogether.

Ok, last suggestion I have for both of you is to go here and check everything listed and see if you come up with a solution.  I realize I have suggested some of this stuff, but take a look again, just in case.

Mine works now, too. I went into Internet Security and changed something according to what the MozillaZine said to do. I'd like to thank you again, Elektra, not only for the link to MozillaZine, but for all your help with this problem from the beginning!

Also, try Ctrl + F5. That will clear your browser's cache. It's also useful if you need to fix broken images from say, Imageshack.
