Aberdeen, UT: an MD by Travis

Welcome to my new MD! If anyone recalls, I had an MD for a few years by the name of "Take a Tour". Well, it got kinda disorganized after a while, more or less a mish-mash of random regions. So, I've come with a fresh start.

Well, the region that will be showcased in this MD has been ongoing for quite some time. A long time. A LONG LONG time. Four years to be precise. Over those four years, its been a constant work-in-progress. I've never deleted and started from scratch, but I remake one part of it at a time, eventually having remade the entire region to that standard, which is when I realize that it could be better, so I start the process over again. Lather, rinse, repeat. But this time I feel I've got the standard satisfactory for publishing, so here we are.

The updates should be around once weekly, sometimes more often, sometimes less. In any event, keep the comments coming- they're greatly appreciated.

Aberdeen, Utah, United States of America

Aberdeen (pronounced /āb'ər-dēn'/) is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. State of Utah. Aberdeen is is located in Green River County, in the valley of the Green River. The United States Census Bureau estimated in 2008 that the population of Aberdeen proper was around 968,522, making it the tenth most populous city in the United States. Also, the Census Bureau estimates the Greater Green River Valley Metro, officially known as the Aberdeen-Blue Spruce City-Green River Metropolitan Statistical Area, has a population of 5,412,655, making it the 8th largest MSA in the United States. Historical Background

Founded in August 1849 by Mormon pioneers, as a refuge from religious persecution in the east, less than two years after the founding by Mormons of Great Salt Lake City (since shortened to "Salt Lake City") in 1847. As of the 2008 estimates, app. 41% of the MSA's residents are members of the church, known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, commonly termed "mormon".

Interesting start, Travis.

I remember reading through Take A Tour. It was a lovely MD, sad to see it go. But, a new start is always good as well.

That, is also a huge city, strange for a mountainous area of Utah.

• @Ethan: thanks! I agree about the odd location, but some of the greatest cities in the world were built in a less than favorable area. For example, Miami was a marsh, San Francisco was a Native American burial ground; and Dubai was a desert. So, you never know...

Now, before we get to the pix, a little "director's commentary" from your author.

Well, this region isn't anywhere near filled- I'm sort of playing it by ear, hopping around to the most completed areas. The general idea is to show the path of a normal tourist or businessperson, from landing at the airport, taking a taxi, bus or commuter train into the city, and so on.

I liked how these pix turned out, but photoshopping (as always with me ) isn't finalized yet. Once I get settled and find a few good brushes and frames, we'll have even better presentation. but for now, I guess this will do.

Update 2

Making a pass over the airport, the smaller of two major ones in the Metro area. (This being Brigham Young Int'l, the other, larger airport, Aberdeen-Green River Int'l)



After touching down, we pass the Southwest terminal on our way to our gate.


Disembarking from the plane (a small business jet) after the short flight from Denver.

Lastly, the light rail station, whose tracks link up with the Aberdeen subway system in Blue Spruce City, a short distance farther west.

You're off to a great start! The last update is really cool, I especially like the way you've played with the angle of the pics!

Not a bad start. The adjustments to the pictures give them an interesting angle. However, the rotation of them (turned several degrees) seems a bit odd with the regular border. It was a bit distracting at times. However, it looks like you've done a good job putting together your airport. Any chance at seeing a full overview of it?
