Intriguing update once again. And I must say I love those beaches below the cliffs.  :)

I love the light rail.  I've been working on light rail cities myself lately, but they're not quite as well built as yours.  I can't wait to see more Rural GLR pieces, you made really good use of the ones we have so far.  It's a nice mix of dedicated alignment, and on road tracks too.  The split between the stations reminds me of what Denver is like right now.  They are rebuilding Union Station right now, so the Amtrak trains are stopping at a temporary station behind Coors Field until the construction is over, unfortunately, the light rail still stops at Union Station.

By the way, I feel like I've seen your transit map before.  Is it hand-drawn, or do you use some kind of computer program to generate it?

penguin007

Great update again and an awesome journey through the city while showcasing the light rail network.

Wow, very nice MD you got here! I read the last two updates, and really liked them, as I am kind of a railgeek. I also like the way you build your cities, the american style is very well done!
Has it really been almost 2 years?
Must return. :)

vester

Great update. Love the light rail theme.

On thing, maybe to few trains on the tracks. You could change the nam automata plug-into get more trams to show.

Picture 28.13 reminds me that I need to make a new version of the tram depot lot to fit the new trams.

noahclem

Great update! I really like the maps and it's a nice American-style take on mass transit

Brilliant job with the tram lines, especially the picture with the G.L.R. rails next to the cliff is my favorite :)

Been lurking for a while and I really like your work! Wonderful region shot, as always. I think it's one of the most realistic I've seen! I hope I can do as well with my own upcoming project. I actually have never (!) built a city with GLR, partly because I've never lived in a city with it in RL and am not sure how to work it in properly. But you've done a great job and may inspire me to give it a shot.

Also, I may have missed it, but what cliff/rock, beach and water mods are you using? 28.11 is beautiful and has an especially authentic feel to me.

Oh yeah, and Market Square it great, nice W2W action going on there. Did you plop or grow most of it?

DerChrischi

hey RickD,
I like your design. hat was very refreshing. I have not yet looked at everything, but I'll take me a few days time and examine all times.
One or the other idea I have also been taken brazenly your Potrait! Sorry!
Best regards

Lovely job with the GLR, it turned out great!

Your updates always make me homesick for my old turf, despite the many differences between your SB and the SB I grew up in 40 years ago.  In this last update, it was the familiar street names on your map that triggered my nostalgia...Padre, Misson, etc.  When I was in high school I lived just off Padre St. and used to walk down Padre to catch a city bus at State St. to go to school every day and got off the bus at Padre every day on the way home.  There was a candy store at the corner of Padre and State St. where I used to buy a candy bar to keep me company on my walk home, at least on those days when I didn't have an after school appointment with my orthodontist, whose office was kitty-corner from the candy store.  My son just moved back to SB, Goleta actually, just before Xmas, and my Mom has been wintering in Montecito since retiring to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho back in 2006, so the homestrings pull hard...

You're doing a great job, I can't wait to see how you pull 154 (San Marcos Pass Highway) up over the mountains and develope the rural Santa Ynez Valley, especially Lake Cachuma.  And don't forget Gaviota Pass, where US 101 (your I-5) makes a 90 degree turn from west to north and passes through the Gaviota Tunnell!  Still to come is Buelleton (and Anderson's Pea Soup), not to mention Solvang.  I will be waiting and watching to see how you address The Santa Barbara Mission and maybe even the Botanical Gardens up Mission Canyon Road, where my youngest sister's ashes were scattered...

Wow! great work! I hope that you will continue with the GLR in the region. I love that transit map and the trolley running thru downtown!

I like this cind of updates that are following trains on their way very much. The line - layout is well done althrough I would have lenghtened the blue line a bit more around the CBD and to the central station area.

Anyways, great update &apls

Fantastic update again, really very nice!!!

Coming soon ... Montecito

Just a little preview update today:

29.1

See the empty tile to the right? This is where Montecito will be located.
Argh. Why are Chrisadams farm paths bright white in region view?

29.2

The main transit networks are in place. The tile features US-101 and a rail wye where the mainline splits into the Santa Barbara local line and the bypass line.

I am really glad about all your nice comments. :)

Thanks. I posted it before to get some feedback and made several improvements. I used Inkscape to draw the map.

I already use the radical 24h plug in. Sometimes no Trams show even though the line is used according to the traffic query. :(

It is made by vester. Should be on the LEX.

This is not so easy to answer because it is a combination of different sets. The terrain mod is Missouri Breaks by Cycledogg, Rock Mod is Sandstone1 by Ennedi, Watermods are by Rivit (Foreshore: Brown Rock and Brown Sand Beach; Inshore: Overcast; Offshore: Rippled Sea).
I am happy to help you out with links via PM if this does not make sense to you. ;)
QuoteOh yeah, and Market Square it great, nice W2W action going on there. Did you plop or grow most of it?
I try to grow everything. But oftentimes the simulator is really annoying and frustrating, when it grows the same building over and over again with zero variety.  :bomb: Most downloaded buildings never grow at all.  Then, when I start to get really :angrymore: I resort to plopping. But I try to revisit plopped areas later and try to grow buildings again.

ldvger and GreekMan:
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. Honestly, I don't know yet how to do those areas. Some of them (like Gaviota Pass) aren't even on my region map. I'd have to ask blade2k5 to expand the region. But SR-154 and Cachuma lake will be there in some form. ;)

Chris Adams farm paths have an overlay texture (the path) and an invisible base texture. This is done so that the path will blend in with the rest of the terrain. There is a downside to having invisible base texture as they will sometimes disappear. Such as after you switch to an underground view like when laying water pipes then back to 'all off' normal view. In city view the ground will look gone, blue-ish, etc. The way to get the base textures back is to switch to 'zone' view then back to 'all off'.

Having said that: My guess is that you saved and exited the region at a time when the base textures were screwed up. My suggestion is that you should go back to the city – insure that the Chris Adams paths look ok. And I would probably zoom in and out and look at them from all directions. Save and exit again. Then look at your region view. If that doesn't work? Then I'm stumped.

I do have some of his farm paths in my GRV region and the region view looks ok so I know it's possible to have a good region view and use his product.

Time for general comment then - I like your region and you're developing it well. The shoreline looks natural (pic 28.11) and it looks like you're enjoying trolly system lots and bats. I like the highway (pic 28.8) - yep, that's a nice shot but the region view I think is something you should be proud of.

Good Luck as you continue ...

- Jim
